  1. I've never seen Martha Raddatz on WNT

  2. Yeah if I recall we’ve been (or were?) seeing a trend of stations cutting back on the 4am hour nationwide. I believe KPRC in Houston cut the 4am hour due to staffing shortages and launched a 7am streaming newscast. Just one example I can recall off the top of my head.

  7. WPLG being dropped from YouTubeTV, Hulu, etc. at the start isn't surprising. The network negotiates the retransmission consent rights for all the affiliates. So, WPLG was covered by the agreement ABC made with Google. No ABC. No agreement for Local 10. They will have to hammer out deals with all the vMVPDs. To be honest, not being on YouTubeTV isn't the end of the world. While it is the largest platform of its kind by far, it has about 9.4 million subs nationwide. There are 125 million TV households in America. So YouTubeTV has about 7% of the national population. Let's assume that a metropolitan area like Miami skews slightly higher than, say, a rural Midwest market where internet connectivity may be slower. Even if YouTubeTV has 8 or 9% of the Miami market, WPLG can survive. But it might be enough to shave off just enough viewers to cause some pain. On the flipside, WSVN's ABC feed is immediately covered by all ABC agreements once that feed is live. It will be interesting to see if it is up and running on day one. (It should be since they have had plenty of lead time)

  8. Here's the thing: Unless you're a die-hard local news fan, I don't think most people are going out of their way to watch FAST. Viewers want bespoke content that is picked for them, not to watch a broadcast on a app. We cut cable because we wanted a level of control from our content vendors to choose exactly the kind of information/entertainment that we want to watch and having an algorithm recommend additional content based upon what we liked or psychologically attracted to. Swapping OTA for FAST for identical content ignores the entire reason that viewers cut the cord anyway.

  10. The thing with these non-major network broadcast stations on Youtube TV and such is that they either has a deal with the owners of these stations or not. So this means they do not have a deal Berkshire Hathaway.

  11. Double yeesh. How long before they elect "must carry" status with cable and satellite? They better be streaming all of their shows on the apps or else they have really screwed the pooch with this move.

  12. The missing time at 11PM makes for an easy, modification-free repeat in the middle of the night. The nights you see a time/temp, that show probably doesn't air again.

  13. So they're doubling down on linear television? That's not going to work well for them. BH doesn't have the infrastructure for that.... Frankly there's demand for non-linear targeted stories, but not without the cost offset for the SAAS development.

  15. yeesh. Seems like a fantasy or offshore TV station come to life in Miami. Hopefully "ABC Miami" will be their main brand, but they have to educate the OTA & cable/satellite viewers on channel position. "ABC Miami" is enough for OTT. I would imagine WPLG would continue on YouTubeTV. WJXT has always been carried as an independent so carrying WPLG post-switch should be a given. ABC would pull the strings for getting "ABC Miami" on there.

  19. This looks like something that could work, and I like how they're doing this. TEGNA stations across the West are joining forces to bring you a weather-only program called Weather Out West on streaming. Stations featured? KXTV Sacramento KFMB San Diego KING/KONG Seattle KGW Portland KREM/KSKN Spokane KTVB Boise KUSA/KTVD Denver KPNX Phoenix/KMSB Tucson (TEGNA owns the latter and airs KPNX news there too) It appears to be a daily occurrence, but I'm not entirely sure. Today, its KING 5's Ashley Ruiz hosting (and delivering the Seattle forecast) with a national summary from WXIA-TV Atlanta's Julie Martin (remember her? From TWC?).

  20. NBC going away at the end of 2024 was probably the end of their affiliation agreement, and due to the pending wind down of the station operations, dumping NBC was a way to cut costs because of the reverse compensation agreements most network affiliates have. This does beg the question to what the television situation is outside of KXGN. Glendive technically doesn't have an NBC affiliate anymore or even a de facto affiliate as well. Glendive doesn't even appear have a cable company, and DirecTV doesn't even provide local stations for its viewers. Dish supplements KXGN with KOTA (ABC), KEVN (FOX) and no NBC affiliate since KXGN pulled the plug. YouTube TV fills in the gaps with WMAQ out of Chicago, KHMT out of Billings for FOX and a straight ABC feed in Pacific time with ABC News live filling in the gaps. There's still KYUS in Miles City, basically a repeater of Cowles' KULR. It's in the Billings market so adapting it to serve the Glendive audience is still a challenge. I wonder if that would be part of the sale of KXGN since these are the only remaining parts of Stephen Marks' TV station group.
