  1. So you decide to criticize her looks? Really?! How derogatory. I say, she has the experience. If she wants to go to Boston, she should. I don't want her career to end because of what's happening with this mess. Kelly is one of the most popular meteorologists in Rhode Island, and I have loved her forecasts over the many years I've gone to Southern New England on vacation. She is absolutely fantastic. I never saw her for her looks. I saw her for her forecasts, her accurate information, and the experience she has to provide complex information in an easy-to-understand way. She should be hired based on her experience, not on her looks. I'm sorry I had to rant but this comment is terrible.

  2. What an awful thing to say. If you do not mean any “disrespect” and “think she’s great” then why qualify why you think she doesn’t have the look for a major market? This is no better than unwanted viewer letters that tear people down. And in case you didn’t notice, there have been a number of weather folks in major markets with the trait you listed, notably at WNBC and WGN. SMH.

  3. Australia Forgot to mention this, but it was a year ago when the ABC brought back the 1985 theme in a whole new way. Less than two months ago, the theme was remixed for fewer morse code beeps and a fuller sound.

  4. It also has nothing to do with her capabilities as a meteorologist. She is highly popular. She was more than competent considering she had stability throughout NBC and Media General ownership.

  5. Canada BREAKING and its a really sad one. Longtime Canadian journalist Beverly Thomson, a legendary fixture on Canadian television for three decades with CTV Toronto, Global, CTV Canada A.M., W5, and the CTV News Channel... has passed away after a battle with cancer. She was only 61. RIP to one of the best. 🕯🕯🕯 https://www.ctvnews.ca/canada/article/tv-anchor-and-veteran-journalist-beverly-thomson-dies-at-61-after-cancer-battle/

  6. She has dipped her toe into online before, doing forecasts on an RI centric Facebook group, which probably isn't that good an option today. The online "paper" has a meteorologist - but focuses on major meteorological events than routine. Sadly her options may be limited, including other staff members let go in this mess, like the Sports Director Nick Coit who served as a mentor to many URI Sports Media majors over the years if they want to stay in the area. What is scary is this is the future, where media in a mid market is controlled by only two companies with fall out beyond just staff redundancy reductions. I have a hard time understanding how this is in the public's interest.

  7. I see one of two scenarios for her: 1) She pulls a James Spann and starts a new online operation focused on Rhode Island 2) A Boston station (say, WCVB) decides to hire her

  8. Oh, I dunno..... station logo in the lower corner of the screen, on-air personalities viewers associate with one of the stations, the weather forecast covering a certain area....

  9. Still, they and Disney are probably keeping an eye on how many viewers they get through Freeform. At some point, it'll be in both companies' best interest to kill the "in perpetuity" agreement and go their separate ways, likely with a notable cash payment from Disney to CBN.

  10. I have a pretty good idea she will be steering clear from any Sinclair stations....

  11. You would think that, logically why not I guess, but TBN is also losing money, at least as of the last 3-4 years they're heavily in the negative. They also have only 3 stations on designated non commercial channels Their focus is now on tbn+ and the apps anyway

  12. I don't know if you mean to or not but it kind of sounds like you're excusing such behaviors. The last thing I say on this subject is...we're human beings. Rudeness slips out at times. Let's make a better effort to not have the threads devolve into constant condescension and insults.

  13. And another thing PBS stations run by colleges and universities do is to educate and train journalists. This is basically their first job and hands-on experience reporting on the news in the communities they are attending school in. In return, these areas (some of which are VERY under-served) get local news coverage from a mix of students and professionals who work together. Some notable ones that run daily newscasts include WUFT in Gainesville, FL (University of Florida) and WOUB in Athens, Ohio (Ohio University). Even in the 1990s after Paxson shut down WAKC's news department and stripped their ABC affiliation away in favor of infomercials (and later PAX), WNEO and WEAO stepped in with NewsNight Akron which was a discussion show about news in the Akron area. They couldn't afford to start a news department (the stations were a joint venture of the local universities, Akron, Kent State and Youngstown State at the time) but this was a way to fill the void until WKYC partnered with Paxson to start up a local newscast again in 2001 that ran on WVPX (the old WAKC).

  14. This is thread-worthy in itself. While it's not the end of PBS and NPR, it could very well be unwinding the network of stations through the elimination of federal funding and oversight of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/corporation-public-broadcasting-begin-shutting-operations/story?id=124284902 Basically the result will be any surviving "Public Broadcasting" stations that rely on viewer and state/local support. PBS will likely survive in name only and through their ongoing member stations. Are we great yet?

  15. are you serious? A boston station hiring her? no disrespect to her, but she does not have the onair look for a major market. she is too heavy. i think she’s great. But no way she goes to Boston.
