  1. Noticed Chris Warren today on CNN. Not sure if he's been there or if this is his first day.

  2. As we all know, 2026 will be a big year for NBC due to the Olympics, Super Bowl 60, NBA, MLB, NFL, other sports, plus the busy political cycle with President Trump and the midterms so I get why NBC 5 has been making these moves. Last year, NBC 5 lured away Chuck Goudie from ABC 7 to strengthen the investigative team and now this year with Lou Canellis from FOX 32 to strengthen the sports coverage, and as the station becomes highly sampled, they obviously want that momentum from these events to continue beyond these periods, which goes into why they made the investment into new digital proof-state of the art studios, integration with Telemundo Chicago for extended resources, better reporting, and investigative content, as well as being more present in the communities across the Chicagoland region. The other stations in town better watch out because NBC 5 will be highly sampled this year and may slowly take a half or more of the ratings cake away from channel 7. They have done it before during parts of the 1990s, 2010s, and they might do it again. The NBC O&O stations are in a state of momentum right now due to the stations prioritizing stability and substance, and it is paying off in the ratings, so we will see what happens in Chicago.

  3. Nice pickup for NBC getting Bob Costas back to do MLB pregame, he'll also do some stuff for the NBA on NBC & he'll likely have a role in L.A. 28 Olympics coverage. https://www.nbcsports.com/pressbox/press-releases/bob-costas-returns-to-nbc-sports-to-host-sunday-night-baseball-pregame-show

  4. It seems the stations that still have the old package are stuck with it because of the old graphics systems. The weather graphics are different because it's a totally different platform. Same with the promo graphics package that marketing gets. You would have thought they would made a "GrayOne" package for the stations still on the old CG, but it looks like the package they're using is the one for the holdouts. Likely a purely business decision, since the systems haven't reached "retirement age" and that the day to replace them is still years away in a future capital expense...

  5. Sorry, I was typing this while at work. What I meant by that is that nearby PBS member stations, such as WGTE and WPTD, can serve as de facto PBS outlets for Lima since it will soon be without one. I mean, WOUC-TV (a WOUB-TV Athens satellite station serving Cambridge and Zanesville) is the de facto PBS member station for the Wheeling–Steubenville TV market (alongside WVPB) since they don't have PBS of their own.

  6. They'll probably import WGTE or WPTD since Toledo and Dayton's major stations have or are still serving Lima as backups.

  7. I doubt they wanted to, this is all TU corporate getting their hands into the branding and turning it into a mess, it seems. They have a two-headed monster in Foro/N+ already in MX that they won't drop the older brand for either.

  8. I don't know about Ken but Michaela, yes. She was supposed to get a new talk show, but its been pushed back so many times that its no longer happening. She works for Sinclair now as an executive producer for a new series on America's 250th Birthday.

  9. Great drone view of the new NBC5/Telemundo Chicago studios and newsroom.

  10. I just saw the IG post from Entertainment Tonight about this. I'm not surprised, but I am disappointed because that's the only daytime talk show I actually watch. I wonder what the NBC O&Os will replace her with. 3pm news? Maybe there will be a replacement talk show, but I'd be kind of surprised. Weren't Michaela Pereira and Ken Jeong supposed to get talk shows? What happened to those?

  11. Yeah, Peter Angelos (the late Orioles owner) was understandibly angry when the Montreal Expos moved to DC. The ensuing ownership setup of MASN, where it was majorily owned by the Orioles, was was compensation for the end of the Orioles' 30+ year baseball monopoly in the Mid-Atlantic.

  12. Probably because now the Nats don't have to keep fighting over a Orioles-dominated network and have the Orioles continually go after them on carrying their games.

  13. Hopefully to make it easier for fans watching on satellite/cable TV, the channel for Nationals baseball will be the channel space occupied by MASN2.

  14. Speaking of WNBC, their weekend morning mainstay, Peter Napolitano (aka Produce Pete), has passed on at the age of 80 following weeks of health issues. https://www.nbcnewyork.com/on-air/as-seen-on/produce-pete/produce-pete-napolitano-dies-at-80/6450239/

  15. Sad news from New York in the world of Spanish-language television. Rafael Pineda, WXTV's main anchor from 1972-2013, and the longest-running news anchor in NYC television history at the time (since surpassed by WNBC's Chuck Scarborough), has passed away at his retirement home in Florida. He was 88. https://abc7ny.com/post/rafael-pineda-legendary-news-anchor-univision-41-dies-88/18480575/

  16. You would figure that WCBS and WNYW are in the best positions for news and weather events, given their duopolies. WCBS did have a 7pm newscast on WLNY, but the fact they did not utilize it for additional coverage is bewildering. Considering WNBC does not utilize digital subchannels for overflow programming, they blew right through the afternoon national programming, which probably would not have gotten huge ratings anyway. In other WNBC related news... ‘Produce Pete,' a weekend mainstay on NBC New York for more than 30 years, dies at 80 https://www.nbcnewyork.com/on-air/as-seen-on/produce-pete/produce-pete-napolitano-dies-at-80/6450239/

  17. And now WINK has escalated to some kind of DEFCON since the station possibly has removed his Facebook page; it's standard operating procedure but a little petty.
