  1. What average person is trying to distinguish between them? Nobody outside a group like this cares one bit, because they don’t watch New York and LA. People watch their own local channels. And if a person happens to be traveling from one city to the other, and is watching the local news, they’re not analyzing if one happens to look like the one from back home because it uses the most unusual color of…checks notes…blue.

  2. KABC has a history of having large studios. Anyone remember when they used separate sets for the morning/4p/6p news and another set for the 5p/11p? Their new set could definitely hold two news desks.

  3. I’m certain most people know her as Oprah’s best friend more than the morning show she’s on. If as many people knew or cared about her as she seems to think then it would reflect in the show’s viewership. And it has not. I don’t have any particularly strong issue with her other than that she’s always seemed pompous and full of herself. Her statement on her contract is embarrassingly petulant for a 70 year old woman, especially when she seemed incredibly insecure about her own standing just a few months ago.

  4. Glad she did because I feel like something was missing from that story and I hope she wins her case as a result. She should come back on air quickly, if the case goes in her favor.

  6. Who would you say is better in the station group? None of the station’s are bad but KABC’s just blows them all out of the water. KTLA is close but I don’t think there’s another local news set in the country that looks this incredible.

  7. I said what I said because most average viewers doesn't really pay much attention to certain minor details. With that being said, I also find discussion about news sets interesting. I hope that clears up your confusion with me.

  8. Maybe LA, but not the ABC O&O, imo. Stairs to nowhere, non-functional computer monitors, etc..That alone should disqualify them.

  9. This is exactly what I said before HanSolo's comment. These little details do not matter much to people because most average viewers don't have the time to be comparing and contrasting those things. Most people would say just give me the local news I need to know and that is it. * The above statement is just a reflection of how most average viewers think and does not reflect how I view and discuss local news aesthetics, just in case anyone is confused. *

  10. Sinclair is (re)introducing a morning newscast (they cancelled in 2023) on WACH in Columbia... https://tvnewscheck.com/journalism/article/wach-launching-good-day-columbia-new-morning-newscast/ It probably costs a fraction of what the old one did. But still noteworthy for a station group that loves to gut their local news departments in favor of piped in propa....i mean "content"....

  11. Exactly. if she is the face of the show, she should be fired because the show has been hitting record low ratings with her as the "star". I know there are tons of egos in television news, and there are far worse people on TV news than her (Everyone at FOX News, Joe & Mika, Megyn Kelly, etc..) but she is beyond pompous and full of herself despite failing miserably in the ratings at every single show she has hosted. She's one of the biggest ratings failures in television and she thinks she is some mega star. The reason there is so much speculation about her leaving is because she is extremely over paid hosting a horribly rated show while the network she works for is doing massive cost cutting. If CBS Mornings was doing well there wouldn't be all these stories about her future in jeopardy. She then pathetically tries to save her job by posting selfies with FOX News primetime hosts and praising the far right boss who is censoring stories and turning CBS News into a propaganda outlet. She is one of the most well known personalities at CBS News because all the high profile and respected people CBS had have departed the network

  12. I’ve heard similar talk about that auction becoming a major upheaval in the broadcast TV industry as a whole so I would imagine the time is coming. At this point broadcast TV isn’t a growth industry.

  13. KTLA has a more memorable and better framed 2-shot with the masthead logo above and the horizontal elements. KABC has more memorable studio wide elements. For the KABC set I wonder what the desk that's positioned in front of the interview set will be used for.

  14. Charlie Van Dyke is sounding horse. I think it's time he's finally replaced. The grays and blues of this set are similar to KNBC's set which I don't like either. If only they would use the stairs. I hate when they're added as a set element, but not actually included within production. With the music, set and logo, it feels like ABC is unifying under the NYC aesthetic, which I can't say that I like much.

  15. This set is pretty good. I concur that there's a bit too much blue for a Southern California set. But honestly this beats my expectations for what replaces the 2015 set (which I still would rank is my all time favorite for KABC). I would definitely say it's now easily the best in the local ABC portfolio, as was the 2015 KABC set. The camera tracking needs some work as it's a bit too wobbly at times. On a different note, I still miss the KABC music cuts.

  16. Oprah has hardly been in the forefront of culture for years now. She pops up here and there but is mostly out of the eye. There’s no way to assess who does or doesn’t make the primary association to being Oprah’s friend and it’s wise not to assume others think the same way as oneself on a wide scale. One can know of and “care” (like, dislike) a public figure, in this case the media, without being a regular viewer. The two are not inextricably linked.

  17. You are talking about Nexstar here. Despite claiming to the FCC they invest in news, expand news, the reality seems to be the opposite. Luckily there is no duopoly in NYC, because elsewhere they consolidate newsrooms, and eliminate news so not to compete with themselves.

  19. For those not aware, WGN dismissed 9 anchors/reporters yesterday, and KTLA knocked out at least 3 on-air talent, as well. Now, after confirmation from a Nexstar source, WPIX has made some high profile cuts of their own. Gone as of today are: Kori Chambers, lead/late co-anchor Arrianee Lebeau, early evening co-anchor John Muller, weekend morning & original weekday morning co-anchor There could be more, but those are the only names we have, at this time.
