This is from Jeff Simmons who use to work at NY1 from 1996 to 2003 he also anchored New York Tonight which prior to 9/11 was the 8''O Clock Edition anchored by Lewis Dodley.I was too young to remember the original NY1 graphics and music by Mike Whalen from 1992.After 1997 they started using the Peter Fish theme which they used until 2013 the graphics changed in 2002 when they moved to Chelsea Market Studios5 points

What? Something from Rick Thomas that's not from LA? Well believe it, it's the close of a KFMB newscast from 1975:3 points

Whoops, I thought it was cancer (due to a misleading search preview). I'm retracting that part of the post. :/ There was a Cardinals reporter for the Republic who died of cancer the same year, and I think other people conflated the two events, especially these days. Here's a whole half-hour of Good Morning Arizona from 1996!3 points

Now for 2 Springfields, D/FW Network Affiliation Switch, and another from, to quote Wikipedia, the market that has "no basis in television reality": Lincoln, Hastings, Grand Island, Kearney, NE. WGGB (Springfield, MA) April 30, 1993 11pm KYTV (Springfield, MO) July 29, 1994 10pm KTVT (Dallas/Ft. Worth, TX) July 1, 1995 8pm - Special early edition of "The Nine O'Clock News" due to baseball... IIRC, during the game, KTVT switched logos on the graphics and the announcers switched shirts with the new logo when it was official - 10pm? KDFW (Dallas/Ft. Worth, TX) July 1, 1995 10pm - New Graphics and theme with the switch to Fox. KDFI simulcast the 9pm news until the fall, when they aired new syndicated programming. KHAS (Lincoln/Hastings/Grand Island/Kearney, NE) April 27, 1993 10pm Enjoy! More to come this week, including stuff from my 1991 trips to and from Michigan. Jim3 points

Looks like they’re going through financial troubles within their station. I’m not sure if it has to do with ratings, but it could be an important reason.2 points

WNCT NewsCenter 9 ca. 1996 with the standard CBS News graphics. The studio lights fell on Meteorologist David Sawyer while taping this tease!2 points

Lars Clutterham's "EarWitness News" must be one of the most underrated themes ever; I just love its dramatic, almost cinematic orchestration. I assume this was its last-ever use?2 points

The two audio tracks on that KDFW lottery drawing are...wow. Also, those man-on-the-street interviews are absolutely painful!2 points

Maybe they are waiting for the deal to ACTUALLY BE APPROVED FIRST. This is what I love here.. You are all soooo against the Sinclair deal as being evil and sinister... Yet... You all can't wait for those NEW evil and sinister Sinclair graphics. OMG...the irritation has become part of the attraction.2 points

I didn't say they were all good... Just a "nice" variety from the past... Basically the station was run almost like a radio station that ran almost all syndicated fare. At the time, the 47News rebroadcast was probably the highlight of the broadcast day... J1 point

A little from out west in the second half of the 90s... Nexstar is no longer in Jacksonville. Ironically, considering they bought the station from Media General in 2009, WCWJ has been sold to Graham Media Group.1 point

Yeah. That’s when everyone who had Time Warner Cable already had NY1 on their packages. Especially after they had switched to digital cable.1 point

I noticed that as well on one of my MTA buses. Even though they usually have WNYW Fox 5 ads plastered on my local buses.1 point

I guess their show would be a replacement to Good Day New York until Gene returns from his wedding leave.1 point

Napoli Management announced the following: Amanda VanAllen moves to WEWS in Cleveland as a reporter. She leaves WFMZ in Allentown. Catherine Hawley makes the jump to market 11 as a general assignment reporter for WTVT in Tampa. Previously, she was a general assignment reporter at WMAR in Baltimore. Meanwhile, a final farewell message from another great WFMZ alum - Chandi Lowry posted the following: Thanks for the kind words about my future in Pittsburgh! Keep in touch! Look for me on social media as Chandi Chapman very soon. @69News Great to see our WFMZ team succeed!! As always, hate to see them leave us.1 point

Unfortunately, this might be the rarest large market tape-wise. Salt Lake Tribune, August 28, 1989:1 point

There's also an image campaign to this. It's one of the larger packages we have little of. The Oklahoman's TV columnist was not totally fine with it, though, saying "It was pretty, but unfortunately longer than most hymns on Easter morning."1 point

I was a bit sad with audio at the end - I was expecting a full long close, and someone cut out the theme, leaving the SoT remnants. I really enjoy then themes that are clearly developed with a full orchestration. KTVT has had 2 good ones (in my mind): EarWitness News and their custom "The Eye of Texas".1 point

From KNBC "freelancer" to "Internal Journalist"... Hey Gene Kang....you paying attention here<<<< Hey guys... "Freelancing" at an O&O in a major market means... Working as a 1099 employee...no benefits...no overtime...crap hours...unsecured ...no protections. Yucky money. The Idea in TV news is to actually have "made it" when you get to the top 10. You should have earned the full-time by now. Don't get me wrong, some situations are perfect for freelancing if you need and desire a very flexible employment situation....like part-time work...NOT full-time. It's just a way for the employer to string you along by telling you... "We like your work...but not enough ... to give you a real high paying slot." The "real" union gigs are protected like gold by the employers (high pay) and the unions (few union jobs left) who protect those gigs for their own.1 point
