  5. Very interesting— by this time KPNX was phasing out the TVbD graphics for some newer ones, but the old graphics are still used for the L3’s. KPNX for some reason used cold opens for their weekend news, never understood why. This probably must’ve been temporary on purpose, because exactly a year later they debuted “News Station”. I still think Wow & Flutter were responsible for the 1992 theme...

  6. There is no open, but here are the final few minutes of a WPLG newscast from 1981. Dig the closing theme with Thom Allen voice-over.

  7. Call me crazy, but I don't disagree. My morning habits have not changed (7 before 7, then switch to 'GN), but I am increasingly making 32 my 9pm news of choice. I have no tangible evidence to prove it, but with all their expansion at 6 and 10, I'm convinced that the quality, content, and perhaps most of all, pacing of WGN's marquee newscast has suffered greatly. No amount of Skilling can help it right now, in my opinion. Dawn and Corey are great together, the set is slick, I don't mind the graphics compared to WGN, and the overall apparent investment in the station has really put them in an infinitely better place than they were even 3 years ago.

  8. I feel like SoCal, so here's some SoCal... A full KABC newscast from November 1992: And a short KFMB segment on, of all things, yellow jackets with the late Loren Nancarrow in 1994:
