  1. The Eyewitness News name will likely never return because of the controversy associated with the name as well as the antics Dunn and Friend pulled at KYW.

  2. Pittsburgh and KDKA as long discussed is an exception using "KDKA News" because that's how they've been for decades, and to fight off Audacy's well-poisoning on the AM side. It's also appropriate here because channel 19 had no history in Pittsburgh before the move from Johnstown to Jeanette, so it's a clean slate to work from for them. It also doesn't have a market-wide pay TV channel number, so branding it as "Pittsburgh 19" would be senseless.

  3. Funny, WBZ doesn't seem to have a problem shoving CBS programming over to WSBK when needed.

  5. it was corporate who made thar decision, not the ND or the GM. They didn’t want CBS programming preempted so it went to 50. Given 50 is no longer the CW and is now independent, it makes sense. Remember, 62 is a network O&O so it makes sense. The others you mentioned are not network O&O stations. You have to go through a lot of steps to get network programming preempted when you are an O&O. 50 who is also CBS (well owned by CBS) did a great job.

  6. One of the WDJT mets just dropped that their noon show is expanding to an hour; The Bold and the Beautiful goes to 2pm, Inside Edition and Daytime Jeopardy fill the former Phil slot, and the second half hour of Drew likely goes to 12:37am.

  7. Interesting!!! It may also be they did not want to go through all the hassle and steps of preempting network programming and it was easier to just put it on 50. Also, 50 is still the CW and not officially an independent station yet. So the situation with WWJ/WKBD would naturally be different than that of its cross country sister stations. It is what it is.

  8. The CW has effectively confirmed KAUT will join its Nexstar sisters, KRON, WTTA and WPHL, in switching to The CW on September 1: Promos promoting the switches have also recently begun airing on the other three stations; essentially the promos are a generic template with visual and verbal references to the current station branding differentiating between them. (KRON and, presumably, WPHL are the sure bets to keep their existing branding, while KAUT and WTTA could go either way—existing branding or the network/channel number route.)

  9. They should give titular credit to all three or at least call the program "This Week" with no named anchor given the rotation arrangement. NBC probably should've just let Tom Brokaw remain the host of Meet the Press (if he was willing) instead of giving it to David Gregory then Chuck.

  10. Very unnecessary it makes the package look like garbage, just use the icons that came with it.

  11. I think that'll be the first time in their history that they'll be cutting anything from their newscast schedule.

  12. well, she's an improvement over Chuck, and she is definitely less biased than Stephanopoulos, let's see where the program goes from here. Who exactly is on top of the *ratings* now? I'm seeing conflicting reports between Face the Nation and This Week.

  13. Beginning September 11, WBTS/Boston will cut-back its morning news from a 4am start to a 5am start. Early Today will run from 3:30am-5am.

  14. He was singlehandedly responsible, in the East at least, for CBS affiliates almost always dominating the noon hour because of the lead-in he provided. I’d say it fits here.

  15. I guess that was a little surprising, but great to give it its own identity. Wondering if it’s going to be akin to 4 and 5 pm where one is a “third wheel”’who pops in here and there with a story or a genuine three-person anchor setup. And all props to Karen Rogers. All the prep work in the middle of the night, four hours on the morning show, inclusive of the streaming hour, now an added hour daily. Guessing then moon stays as weather-by-committee. Feel like they should give Karen the break on Tuesdays and put Chris on both Tuesday and Wednesday.

  16. Does anyone ever notice that Brian Taff and Sharrie Williams add some extra comment after they get the toss back from a reporter on the street? "Ooh, that looks like it was a scary situation". "We''ll have to keep an eye out for that." It's like they have to get the last word in and seem more involved with the story. It bugs me. Some other anchors will occasionally do it. I don't notice Rick Williams, Sarah Bloomquist, or Jim Gardner doing it. They usually just say "Thank you for that report", and move on.

  17. That is not correct. She began regularly working weekends in February 2014, which was 7 years ago. 9 years ago was 2012, and Rob Jennings was still doing weekends solo then. She didn't do weekend mornings either (at least not as recently as 9 years ago). She said it on Twitter too, not sure what she is talking about.

  18. Because they can. I've been guilty of this in another thread, but we don't need updates on every single freaking fill-in on 6ABC. Let us know when they announce permanent assignments, but until then, there's no need to mention what happens when someone is off.

  19. These changes must be permanent. Sarah was mentioned in the 4pm Close even though Alicia was doing the feature stories today. They also referred to Jeanette as an anchor when they tossed to her for a story during the 5pm. Must say I’m not a fan of the changes and feel like they came out of nowhere (usually they test pairs on air). Rick and Sharrie have little chemistry. There’s really no room on the 5pm show for soft feature stories that Alicia now does. Jeanette jumped from reporter to 4pm anchor. Christie was the main reporter subbing as an anchor and she got nothing (so far). Sarah was subbing at 5pm since May and all she get’s is the 4pm feature role, definitely a slap in the face. And they need to get Walter a full time co-anchor.

  20. Maybe but we don't know for sure yet. We'll see. All I can say is congrats to Rick for the upgrade from noon to 10, and congrats to Brian for becoming the afternoon anchor (I'll miss him at 10pm). I just wish the station announced these pairings beforehard to end the madness. I hope too. Also, agree on Jeanette or Maggie getting a slot someday. They are fantastic behind the desk. Christie too, but them more.

  21. With this latest winter storm, I really enjoy reading Chris Sowers' facebook and twitter updates. Personally, I'd like to see him on the weekday morning spot

  22. Useless... maybe. It’s worthy of a mention though because in the past whenever something out of the norm has occurred it's usually been a preclude to some sort of a change or retirement. Besides, the Chicago posters do this all the time.

  23. Saturday is the lowest viewed day of the week. Sunday is the highest. If you had to choose one to have a full complement on duty which would you choose?

  24. Because it's not 1966. Somebody has probably figured out that everybody has a weather app on their phone and that people check it as part of a morning routine. A full three minute weather hit when people need to be moving toward the door isn't as relevant or useful as it used to be. Traffic, on the other hand is more fluid and isn't likely to be the same information people saw 10 or 45 minutes earlier. TV can't show every traffic problem everywhere, but saying there's a 30 minute back-up on the Schuykill, or construction on the turnpike is probably more useful information at getting-ready-to-go time in the here and now.

  25. I have no problem with him. Besides, that would make a traffic report rather boring.

  26. I do know the schedule and I know the noon news runs an hour. And I also know that Millionaire currently airs at 2pm with Daytime Jeopardy at 2:30pm. Not sure how you deduced that I didn't. With "The Fab Life" going at 2pm, obviously the Millionaire/DTJeopardy combo is getting booted from that hour. Isn't possible for them to go back to the way it was and slash the news back to a half hour with Millionaire back at 12:30pm? And isn't it possible that they will drop the Jeopardy rerun? I believe the answers are yes it's possible. Is it possible that you not be so cocky in your responses? I've noticed this in the past from you.

  27. They pretty much shit their pants when 10 bought Skyforce 10 last year. I can imagine the meeting of how this little brain storm came to be. Something to the effect of "oh no we're not the only one with unique aerials anymore. Quick how do we make Chopper 6 stand out? We can't put a reporter in the chopper. 10 already does that. We can't cover as much ground in the air as 10 does cause their chopper is better. I know let's put a 360 panorama camera on it that the viewers can play with! Brilliant!"

  28. So it was a long commercial.... its happened before, it'll happen again. It's not like they replaced the noon newscast with infomercials. No big deal...

  29. I've never seen Shirleen Allicot during breaking news, now I know why. The "ummms" were irritating so I changed the channel. It was early in the development of the news story so I'll cut her a break. But as they say practice makes perfect. The only way an anchor gets better at breaking news is to actually anchor "off the cuff" so to speak; Hone one's skills. Brian Taff usually takes the lead but he was off today. Thank god for Jim Gardner.

  30. I guarantee nobody (like, literally anybody besides people on this website) could care any less that 2 people anchored weekend evening shows. They're used to seeing it in every other newscast on every station. I'm looking for a valid argument otherwise, but I don't see people finding 2 people reading the news taking away from the product whatsoever.

  31. Even though they probably do things as you put it "slow and gradually!", I didn't think bringing another anchor to the fold on Sunday was slow or gradual at all, not in any strecth of the imagination. I think what they did on Sunday was something out-of-the-orginary that was very snap-of-the-finger approach "OH! Let's Try Something New Today, Let's try this". Even if (and I can't assume if it did get any complaints on Sunday) it probably didn't get alot of complaints, and I'm not sure how many people you think are the "masses", but if enough people saw it, and may not like a duo anchorship on the weekend evening shows (and it don't have to mean Sarah, they might do this same thing this weekend with a different anchor (I hope that's not the case)), folks will probably catch on and complain. In other words, whether its any cosmetic, content/style/delivery or any other changes, music change or not, if an average viewers sees something that is unusual in the newscasts they've relate too (even when they see duo instead of solo), or if they keep meddling with the formula, folks will complain. Simple as that. Now I wasn't aware about these series of "tests". They surely was "testing" alright. Hmmmm.

  32. Pittsburgh’s WPCW is set to be branded as KDKA+. Seems contradictory to the push to deemphasize legacy brands. With Neeraj Khemlani out the door, does this mean the end of “CBS News+City” branding? How long until Eyewitness News returns to KYW? https://triblive.com/aande/movies-tv/tv-talk-channel-19-to-re-brand-as-kdka-change-call-letters/

  33. WUPA is keeping Atlanta NOW News, moving it to 8pm. I assume it’ll be a full Atlanta-focused newscast produced out of Dallas, as it was pre-NOW, since the hybrid local-national show is ending on Thursday.

  34. Storm coverage should've been on channel 62 and not just channel 50 both should've been wall to wall for the tornados on the east side of the state. Someone should be fired in my opinion. That is a big mistake and epic fail how can anyone take CBS Detroit seriously when they dropped the ball on Thur Night. In West Michigan Wood TV, WXMI Fox17 & WZZM went wall to wall on the tornado in Kent County WWMT didn't cut-in I believe I guess they feel that they be in dead last only watch CBS programming in that area not the news from them. It's like WZZM for Kazoo/BC don't care about them even know they do show us bottom row on their map cut the MI/IN broader counties 20 years ago.

  35. If they wanted clear to read fonts, a package with handwriting is not the way to do it, especially for mobile viewers. Just because ESPN does it doesn't mean everyone should do it (and ESPN's version still looks bad with handwritten fonts).
