  1. The cable news networks do not have time shifted "west coast" feeds... No one wants to watch breaking news coverage time shifted three hours.

The west coast is why they re-air primetime shows. And yes, The 11th Hour airs live at 8pm in the Pacific time zone.

You would think they would at least fix the rebroadcast scheduling for their primetime shows (Hayes, Maddow, O'Donnell, Williams). Is there even a need to air reruns of The 11th Hour twice at 2am and 4am Eastern time?

  2. Anybody think this WCBS will go 16:9 with the new set and spread it to other O&Os? The ball usually starts rolling with them.

In all honestly, they should've dropped the 4:3 safe zone spacing with the recent graphics update.

  3. When they first mention those bureaus (in its public interest statement during the MG transaction), they'd planned on launching in Nashville, TN, Austin, TX & Albany, NY, with possible additions in Pennsylvania, Virginia, Alabama & Indiana.

I'm surprise Indiana became the first one of the seven.

The only thing about those cities you mentioned is they are all capitals of their respective states, which creates a complex situation in states like Alabama where Nexstar doesn't even own a TV station in Montgomery.

  4. I watch WRIC sometimes, but I'll say this: REALLY?! *facepalm* Will other Nexstar stations be next?

To be fair, you have Nexstar stations already doing stuff like that anyway. Whatever it takes to get more ad revenues, I guess?

  5. There had been rumors but this evening WREG's Richard Ransom appeared to confirm on Twitter that he has left the station effectively immediately. No reason given (but probably could make some educated speculation)

Doubt it has anything to do with Tribune's pending sale to Sinclair, so it was likely for personal reasons that he didn't want to disclose at this time.

  6. Derrick Santos at New England One says the ABC O&O story is bogus. He's a far more trustworthy source of Boston media info. Can't believe that Newsblues went with this unsubstantiated nonsense.

I knew something about that headline didn't pass the smell test. The day ABC/Disney decides to buy more TV stations (which they won't for reasons that have been repeated over and over again in this forum) is the day broadcast television becomes obsolete.

  7. Not a big deal but looks like a new newsdesk is debuting for Velshi and Ruhle.

Looks like a downsized version of the roundtable desk they use in that studio.

  8. Question: Nexstar by and large doesn't subscribe to Nielsen. Anyone know if they've told the Media General stations to stop subscribing? If so, sweeps numbers in a growing number of markets are gonna be jacked.

Guess the next question to ask is this: Does Nexstar only use Comscore numbers?

  9. No time was wasted either -- all the old LIN/MG stations now proudly present the new Nexstar logo in their copyright sections

Which also means Nexstar can start using this at the end of every newscast at all of their stations (or something similar to fit each market):

EDIT: Looks like I was right on the latter. The new copyright close has been customized for each market.

  10. One thing I do think that will also happen: Nexstar stations will adopt the LIN/MG graphics package, since they are inheriting the in-house graphics, like MG did when LIN was acquired.

That all depends since both companies have a hodgepodge of graphics packages floating around from multiple sources (i.e., Hothaus, NBC Artworks, Linear Drift, jcbD, etc.) in addition to all of their in-house stuff.

  11. WOIO just can't catch a break. Now they had to respond to apparent numerous requests to drop this afternoon's Browns loss to the Bills in favor of the Steelers-Bengals matchup.

You could understand the frustration since the Browns haven't won a game all year (and will likely finish 0-16 barring any surprises).

  12. Having a 6:30 newscast in the Central Time Zone kills the buffer between news and primetime. Imagine if this was on the East Coast and a station did a newscast at 7:30.

WSMV and WTVF already do this and have been doing so for years.

  13. Exactly! The amount of news that is shown in the Mobile market is overkill. Does Mobile really need a 6:30pm newscast?

Short answer: no. I'd imagine Nexstar will force them to scale back post-merger.

One thing to keep in mind is Mobile-Pensacola is a divided media market. While most of the stations there focus primarily on the Alabama side (with some occasional stories from the Florida side), you have some like WEAR that mainly focus on the Florida side.

  14. 11 and 13 own the market. Not a surprise.

That makes S!nclair's retrans fight with Block/Buckeye Cable two years ago even more pointless and stupid.

Barrington had a major hand in sinking WNWO into irrelevance. Sinclair was only the death knell.

  15. A couple of talent shuffles in the Memphis market:

WHBQ reporter Scott Madaus has been promoted to morning news anchor (4:30-6am) for Good Morning Memphis. His first day in his new position is Monday.

Also, WREG announced during Claudia Barr's final newscast tonight that Stephanie Scurlock will take over as the new evening news anchor for the station. She was recently the morning news co-anchor for WREG's Daybreak.
