  1. Graphics Express comes to mind. Popular set designer in the '80s. Don't know much other than that.
  2. WDBO is a station we don't have a lot of footage from considering they were No. 1 in Orlando prior to WFTV's rise in the late 70's. The clips I've seen from WDBO have been kind of lackluster, including this one:
  3. Not really. They tried an hour long 6 o'clock format from '86-'87 that apparently didn't perform well. Also by '88, WXFL had revamped their news team and in '89, WTSP suffered a computer hacking scandal. Still, the station had come a long way from it's WLCY days, when it had a terrible news reputation.
  4. WTSP news promo from 1986 when, believe it or not, they challenged ratings king WTVT for the lead:
  5. I just watched the GMA interview the FL couple. Why on earth did they choose to conduct the interview with the streetside window behind the couple?
  6. Dick Fletcher was an idol of mine growing up. I recently learned that he earned his weather chops working alongside Charlie Umpenhour at KOA-TV (later of WTOL) in Denver. "Fletcher's Fearless Forecast" was the title of Fletch's weather segment at KOA. KMTV had many great talents pass through in the late 70's: Mary Hart, Chuck Roberts, Dale Hansen, Dick Fletcher EDIT: Sounds like another custom theme from Omaha!
  7. Interesting glimpse of the Tampa/St. Pete market after the "Big Switch" of Dec. '94. Mostly from WFLA but some WTVT clips at the end. WFLA attached the NBC peacock to their logo bug, but did not officially update their "NewsChannel 8" logo until fall '95. At this point, they were still using their 1993 'tabloid' era graphics and set, which would change (thankfully!). WTVT showed almost no sign of being a Fox affiliate. Their bug had the '13' logo and 'WTVT' calls WTSP (not in this video) debuted a new set in Sept. 1994 and a promo campaign, you can view on YT
  8. Did WSB ever use "Turn To News"? It's listed on the NMSA, but by all indications, they were actually using this electronic theme: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=6mTUWriErKE;m=2;s=35
  9. Btw did he ever do any other station besides Runza and the four stations listed? I'm surprised he wasn't more widely used....while his voice may not have been "Voice of God" like Charlie Van Dyke, this guy's voice is buttery smooth
  10. He did commercials for Runza in the '80s. Answer: Jim Morgan (according to a YouTube post of Omaha commercials)
  11. I don't think this has been posted...From Keystone Country, it's Action News 1976 WTAJ style!
  12. Not many WOWK clips out there, but this is pretty good. They apparently tried a Charleston-Huntington split newscast a la WSAZ: Interesting theme. The theme from the 1993 clips on YT sound similar...
  13. Does anybody know what WIVB was using, theme-wise? Their station tagline "and that's why we're 4" at 10:05 is interesting.
  14. TEGNA is an abortion
  15. Super cool! Jerry Dunphy at KNXT. As an aside, what station did Paul Udell NOT work at? LOL. He literally turns up everywhere.
  16. Ed Planer saves NBC. When an update is about to go live and Chuck Scarborough is nowhere to be found:
  17. Really glad to see vintage Columbus!!
  18. Yes it has.
  19. KMOX debuted their "Newsroom" format in 1973. Anchoring from a newsroom was being done in the 1950's/60's. Tampa's WTVT is a good example. Seems like the 70's experienced a revival of the concept. BTW, are there any clips of Jerry Dunphy anchoring at KNXT?
  20. Ok, a bunch of WBNS from 1994 with the "tomato 10" logo and that hypnotic techno news theme. Notice the "time lapse" animation on the bumpers (i.e. 18:22)-they were big into that during this 1993-96 era. Check ouf the close at 19:10 and another open following that. Alas, it's pretty crappy VHS quality::
  21. WCWJ/WJKS 50 year tribute (Really well put together):
  22. I discovered that there is a Kindle book called "We View" by David Miller (former employee) that details the founding and early happenings of WEVU Ch. 26.
  23. Superb WSB open with the short lived theme used from 1986-87: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=6mTUWriErKE;m=2;s=34
  24. KSDK has been posting several vintage promos:
