  1. For the Tampa Bay folks, here is a piece of nostalgia from 1974! Part of WTVT's tribute to "Salty Sol" Fleischman, the station's sports director, who retired in '74. Andy Hardy on the left, Salty Sol on the right and Dick Crippen, then of Ch. 10 WLCY in the back right.
  2. I found this **Gem** of a promo for WTSP from the mid '80s on this bizarre YT channel. (Don't watch the rest of the video!). This is a high budget promo with an "actor"(?) telling us why "Action News" is the "New Leader" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=0dWO2YfjFwc;m=7;s=2
  3. Does anybody know the music? Disco NewsNine!
  4. WTSP "We're the Team!" promo:
  5. WXFL 1987 11 o'clock news closing. Also, watch for a short program bumper at the very end for "Turn To News" by Gari: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=7SmQxD1REwo;t=31
  6. Tampa Bay weather legend Roy Leep and much more on this channel!
  7. WCMH 1994 promo that takes a dig at WBNS and its "24 Hour News Source" format
  8. So pleased to see a full newscast from WTSP's 1992-94 era, a real enigma. I really liked that set, which was way more attractive than the one they debuted when they made the switch to CBS. The red/white/blue graphics were also better coordinated than what they used the rest of the decade. They also appear to have used three voiceover artists: Ed O'Brien (6 months!), Jeff Lawrence, and Brian James came in about late '93/early '94. It seems like the goal was a 'feel good' newscast. Very consultant driven.
  9. WTSP covering the "Super Storm of '93" with Sue Zelenko, current Bay News 9 anchor Al Ruechel and current WFLA reporter Mark Douglas https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=3_Rrh5ehw8M;m=30;s=1
  10. Wish we could find a clean version of this amazing custom theme. WTSP used it a long time from early '83 to June of '89.
  11. KTVI went through a litany of changes in the late '70s. Can't keep track of the anchor changes, set changes, news themes.
  12. Alan Henry, who was president of Gulf Broadcast Group and oversaw WTSP's turnaround in that era, dedicated an entire chapter of a book about his career to WTSP and what a "dog" WLCY-TV was and how the Rahall's had the worst reputation in broadcast TV. The new ownership invested a ton of money turning around the station. He said that they invested in a first class image for the station's on-air look. I'd love to see the opens/image promos. But I can't get over how spartan their set was! I think the "newsroom" is actually fake.
  13. Tampa/St. Pete news previews from 1983. The first from WTSP, which had a very dull (newsroom?) set going. This does confirm their "Stay in Touch with 10" theme did start in 1983: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=Nt2f-PgTIac;m=8;s=36 This one from WXFL and the legendary Bill Ratliff at the anchor desk: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=p8LDq0wNj28;m=9;s=7
  14. WTVT from 1984/85 with promos, news updates, and part of an open at the end: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=pTBf6Jw2mzc;t=22
  15. From Tampa/St. Pete, some kinda rare footage from WTSP before longtime anchor John Wilson departed for WTVT. Co-anchor Sheryl Browne also left that year.
  16. The local inserts on Satellite News Channel are really interesting. I thought Headline News was the only cable network to do that in the mid/late '90s.
  17. WXFL news update 1987: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=9xDEQMSL048;t=22
  18. For the Columbus folks, a great WBNS news promo circa 1980. Bunch more on this channel
  19. This was a fairly popular design. WAGA, WPBF, WAFB and WTSP had the same newsdesk.
  20. Former (current?) TWC OCM Mike Seidel has a bunch of local affiliate weather promos
  21. That KTEW open is great. At :44, I believe John McDonald would go on to work at KMTV alongside several 'legends' Chuck Roberts, Dale Hansen and Dick Fletcher.
  22. Great clips from WTVJ-4 when it was CBS for South Florida on this channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=B7EFODMIYc0;m=2;s=2
  23. WWSB news updates and two opens toward the end from 1995:
  24. There are some vintage news clips from WXFL, KBTV, WCKT and others here (some might have been elsewhere on YT): https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCBR9QOS3QWy9_rzaWUTLfjw Check it out fast, because I'm afraid this channel is gonna get pulled by YouTube for copyright!
  25. Not to be critical, but many of these have been previously posted. (the Cincinnati stuff)
