Yes, she wasn't there long. Maybe 2 years. I remember one day she was anchoring at 5pm on WTSP and then a couple of months later I see her co-hosting the (1992?) Fiesta Bowl parade on New Years Day on NBC as she had just joined KPNX.

Right. She joined WTSP in early 1989 with the intent that she would replace Sheryl Browne. The ND, Terry Cole, was arrested in the computer scandal, and subsequently fired. I read a news article that said Mr. Cole was "infatuated" with her. I suspect he had her in mind for a spot down the road when he was leading KWCH prior to coming to Tampa. So Jineane continued on the 5:00 show until fall of 1991, I believe.

Pannoni has posted a lot of late 80’s-early 90s WTSP clips on his multiple channels lately. I probably saw some of these commercials live as a kid as my mom watched ABC soap operas back in the day before she went back to work when my sister reached school age in 1992. Now if we could only get some newscasts from this era.

1989-92 is my favorite era of WTSP. Hoping a talent open with John and Sheryl turns up (there's been some brief intros). I was curious to see if WTSP had any network tie-ins with ABC and they did.

And from 1993, a WTSP "Special Report" on severe weather with Dennis Feltgen, now with the National Hurricane Center:

I just uploaded this, but I always find it interesting when station IDs include their owner or ownership group in some fashion. This one is somewhat of a rarity in that the owner mentioned (Gulf Broadcasting) only owned KTXH for about a year, and the sale to Taft Broadcasting was announced at about the time that this particular clip was recorded - February 1985.

That's an awesome find. Never seen a Gulf BG ID before. I assume it was also used on the other Gulf owned stations- WTSP, KTSP, WGHP etc.

Veteran reporter Glenn McEntyre is the latest to depart 10TV news(WBNS).

Scott Light just left. Was it his decision? Sounds like he wasn't chosen to be Jerry's permanent replacement.

It is June 1989 and WTSP has not switched to The Hour just yet...

Through my newspaper research, it appears WTSP became "NewsCenter 10" on September 5, 1989, so that's when "The Hour" likely debuted. WTSP updated their logo in May 1989, hence some confusion over the timeline.

  6. Noticed a definite trend of TV stations converting a production studio into a "working newsroom" in the late 1970's. Some stations executed this better than others. WXIA seemed to have the best design out of these I could find. Does anybody know who consulted these stations? I'm sure this was an effort to make the newscast seem more "instant" and often relied heavily on electronic graphics. I know in the case of WLCY (WTSP) it was part of a broader effort to beef up that station's news department. I think the same set designer did the sets for WXIA, WLCY and WTHR.

    WXIA (1977) WLCY (1977) WCMH (1976) WTHR (1977)

Yes, you’ll need to watch it on a desktop with Adobe Flash. If only I knew how to rip it to mp4 and put it on Youtube.

There was a promo in the TV Time Warp from the "Spirit of Tampa Bay" era with Bill Ratliff promoting Ch. 8's "live mobile units" with what looked like a dozen live trucks. I'd love to see the full version of that!

So it appears the WFLA 1981 look lasted one year and four days. Yes I’m sharing this here cause I don’t know who composed the theme.

Someone else discovered it has the same melody as a WCVB promotion "Channel 5 & You" IIRC (I think that was it, but I may be wrong. But it was definitely WCVB). EDIT: I should clarify-there was a promo that WFLA aired "The Look...Alive" that had the same melody as the WCVB promotion.

I also wonder what WFLA was using in the 1979-81 era.

It's a really cool logo! But it's no faux throwback. Got this higher-res version:

It seems the first video with this logo was uploaded March 30.

So maybe Monday they'll debut it? I was hoping they'd do something like their sunset logo but just glad it looks like the "black box" days are numbered.

Going by Logopedia, it's a faux-throwback to their 1978 logo version, though that was just a solid block '10' rather than this line-art version.

It looks better than the stupid 'black box' they've been using.

I just watched their online newscast and there has been no change on-air. In 2002, the logo appeared in the St. Petersburg Times a week before it debuted on the air.
