  1. I don't think NBC can arbitrarily move sports programming around unless there's language in the respective deal(s) that allow for that option. Once the rights are up for renewal, then things could/will change. For now, everything regarding sports programming is expected to remain the same (including the Olympics) with SpinCo having to fill in certain gaps with their own people wherever necessary.
  2. Reportedly, all sports programming will continue to air on the spun off cable networks. Production will be outsourced (mostly to NBC Sports), however SpinCo will still have to build a team to 'manage its league deals' and create their own streaming products.
  3. WSVN and FOX have a 30 plus-year relationship and have described each other as 'perfect partners.' FOX went as far as to say, when they renewed the affiliation last year, that their 'relationship with Ed and the Sunbeam team is one of our longest and strongest affiliate partnerships.' That doesn't sound like either party is unhappy.
  4. Oops!!! My bad. I think the issue is that Fox 13 is/was using of hodge podge of graphics. If they were to, for example, follow Fox 32's lead and use the 'new' Good Day graphics across the board, maybe it would look better? I like the simplicity/'somewhat' uniqueness of WFLD and the bold/sharpness of WNYW. And agree the other Fox O&Os could/should adapt either one to their morning newscasts.
  5. ‘Good Day Seattle’ (Fox13) has a new opening/look. If it feels familiar, it’s because it’s very similar to Fox 32’s ‘Good Day Chicago’.
  6. Keep in mind that they do have a job listing for a meteorologist posted. So whatever the current situation is, it will change. Nevertheless, they definitely could have divided responsibilities up better.
  7. Yes, the studios/sound stages are on the second floor. They have a lot of open space to work with on 2, so it will be interesting to see what they come up with.
  8. I mentioned this downsizing last April. That said, there were plans ‘unofficially’ announced early last year that NBC was planning to create a massive combined newsroom (and possibly studios) upstairs for both WMAQ (NBC 5) and WSNS (T44). However, this was before they announced they were downsizing. But based on this new information (and if I'm understanding the listing correctly), it looks like they will be moving upstairs (likely the same floor as the NBC News Midwest bureau and master control). And if I remember correctly, that’s on the second floor. It’s been a while since I’ve visited the NBC Tower…
  9. Snow would have been a solid choice, but it’s clear she wants to spend more time with her family. Guthrie is not at the level of say.. Diane Sawyer. She’s decent on Today, but is no where near good enough to be ‘the face’ of NBC News. And Jackson is too young (40) and when compared to ABC’s Johnson and Davis or CBS’ Duncan, they are all better than her, imo. I don’t think they wanted to take Alexander away from his current position. That said, it’s possible he gets a bigger role down the line (I.e.. succeeding Diaz-Balart on NN Saturday). The Liamas move buys NBC some time to build their anchor bench. When compared to ABC and CBS, they are pretty weak.
  10. Llamas is a safe (predictable) choice much like Melvin was (when he succeeded Kotb). The only surprise is Tom keeping ‘Top Story’ in addition to Nightly. That’s a lot to take on.
  11. It’s likely just a matter of hitting the right preset button (clouds, rain, snow, etc..). Doubtful it’s any more complex than that.
  12. They moved back to home base and unveiled a new desk (identical to WTTG). Not sure if they’re finished with the studio/set remodel (the lighting appears off…lots of shadows, etc…) While the new desk is nice, it is noticeably lower than the previous one.
  13. It’s likely going to be Llamas who replaces Holt and I could see Jackson taking weekends (in addition to a more prominent role on NN during the week). Which means, Diaz-Balart moves to NBC News Now as they could use more NBC News veterans. And now that they cut his MSNBC show, he’s free to do more. Guthrie should remain on Today. I know they have been pushing her the past couple of years, but she can be insufferable.
  14. Not surprising about Wagner given this is the 2nd time MSNBC has cancelled a show of hers. Axing Reid without at least moving her to weekends or keeping her as a contributor is surprising. Not sure Psaki will be a draw the network thinks she'll be. 'The Weekend' team could do well, but who knows???
  15. 'Plus' shouldn't have been launched in the first place. The focus should have been on strengthening 'Evening News' before even thinking about having a companion program. They didn't launch CBS Mornings + until they felt good about where CBS Mornings was (format, ratings, etc...). Sure, in theory. I think the question for them is balancing what's worth reporting on and what isn't and how much time do you devote to certain things. It's not surprising that they making adjustments (...that was to be expected).
  16. Caught Mugo on CBS News 24/7. Not sure if this was her official debut, but she appears to be settling in well.
  17. It's better than what they currently use, imo. Overall, the set looks really good. I was a bit concerned because I don't like the new WNN/GMA First Look set nor The View/T. Hall set and figured this one was going to be a stinker too.
  18. I want to say over the past three weeks, they stopped using certain areas (green screen, faux windows on both sides, etc...) as if they were clearing out one side before moving to the opposite side. One could argue the overall set was fine (it's less than 8 yrs old) and has held up very well. And while I liked what they did to Studio 32, I'm not sure I would like it on a larger scale. That said, I'm hoping for something different than that for the main studio.
  19. Looks like they have started the 2nd phase of the [ main ] set upgrades you mentioned. For the nearly two weeks; they have been using their secondary studio (Studio 32) for all newscasts. No word on when they will move back to the main studio nor the full scope of work being done.
  20. Kutler named President of MSNBC 'Rebecca Kutler takes the helm of the network at a key moment: MSNBC will be spun off from Comcast, along with other cable channels, in a transaction expected to be completed by the end of the year. With NBC News no longer as a sister entity, Kutler has talked of building a new news organization.'
  21. Dickerson is a good interviewer/storyteller, but isn’t particularly great when it comes to breaking news coverage. He appeared tense and twice stumbled over his words during the EN the day after the DC plane/helicopter collision. Plus, he tends to not pay attention to the person he’s talking to (often writing on his note pad instead). In some ways, he is over analytical. DuBois, overall, is the better of the two, imo. Not sure why CBS has been so enamored with Dickerson when they have/had other male anchors/correspondents who are just as good (if not better). I still say he must have some dirt on people…
  22. Goudie made his debut yesterday during the 6P. Unclear if he will make daily appearances and if so, it will be at 6P (like he did while at WLS).
  23. I believe originally there was a screen there, but it at some point, it was replaced with a door.
  24. Definitely underutilized. But she's only 43 (?) and could always make a return to cable news (or even local news) in the future.
  25. I figured there wasn't a need for another investigative reporter at WMAQ, but I can't blame them for signing him. Too much experience to pass up. Plus, with an already established investigative unit at WMAQ, Goudie doesn't have to build one from the ground up (i.e.. at WFLD).
