Longtime Fox 32 Chicago sportscaster Lou Canellis close to deal with NBC 5 'Canellis likely hosted his last Bears postgame show for Fox 32 on Sunday night. The longtime sportscaster is nearing a deal with NBC 5 that could be announced this week, the Sun-Times has learned.'

The studio is what I expected. They really don't do in-studio interviews, cooking segments and the like often enough to justify having a ton of set pieces. etc... A desk and chairs is all they need.
-
Yeah… it’s a mouthful. I would guess they replace it with a standard version at some point.
-
Quite the impressive setup. I like the Chicago Flag design on the floor and the peacock feather desk. Great job overall.

Imo, interviews like this don't hold much weight given he has done a dozen (if not more), TV interviews, etc... over the past year. The 'exclusivity', if you will, isn't there. The damage done across CBS News will likely have a lasting effect that I don't think there is anything they can do to fix it.

I figured they would have moved out by now given the 1st fl. space was originally listed being 'available for lease' on 1/1. Nevertheless, a Sunday reveal is possible given they will have the Bears game as a lead-in. It would be too good of an opportunity to pass up.

More like the only guy left rather than the best for the job. That said, unless ratings drop to historic levels, he will likely be around for a while…

Bret Buganski (formerly of WCPO) returns home to Chicago joining Fox 32 as an anchor/reporter. Unclear what newscast(s) he will anchor.
-
The big move upstairs should be starting soon as they’re putting the final touches on the new combined newsroom and studios. Curious to see if they replicate the current set or come up with something completely new.

Vlad and Lindsey Reiser were on this past Saturday. I didn’t catch all of it, but it’s safe to assume that there was no change in format.

Couldn’t have said it better about CBSN/CBS News 24/7. I quite enjoyed Anne-Marie & Vlad each weekday morning, but now that they have gone to solo anchors and a AR/VR set, outside of ‘The Daily Report’, it’s unwatchable. As I have said before, the busy background is distracting.

DuBois strikes me as someone who knows/knew the risk(s) involved when taking on a network gig. Evening News was always going to be a challenge and he couldn't go into it half-heartedly (i.e... keeping one foot at WCBS and the other at CBS). A solid case can be made to give him time to right the ship. I hope he fights to stay at Evening News.

That's my guess as well. Reportedly, they have already shifted oversight of the program to the weekday team. I can't see them investing a lot of money into developing a brand new program if the idea is to cut cost/save money.
-
I want to say yes (airing a pre-recorded newscast). They have now shifted towards doing live streaming newscasts instead when sports, etc... run over. Granted, they could have aired that after the game, but probably decided against it. Also, it appears that Joanie Lum has moved to afternoon/evenings. Unknown if this is temporary until they hire more reporter(s).

Unfortunately, Paramount is likely the only bidder interested in cable networks (i.e CNN). I don't think they can take on WBD as a whole (...there's just too much debt to assume).
-
Bream would be the likely choice for Special Report if Baier were to leave. Or they could just expand 'The Five' to two hours. How about no slant at all? News organizations shouldn't be taking a side.

So it appears that Elizabeth isn't coming back anytime soon. Wonder who takes over Sunday morning (or will they continue with a rotation of people).
-
Hughes may be better suited for mornings. Looking at his bio, he doesn't have a strong news background, so this new arrangement may work in his favor. He has this 'sports guy reading the news' sort of persona,if you will, that doesn't work well on a afternoon/evening newscast. He lacks an authoritative voice.
-
It really was. Musburger hasn't lost a step in any sense.
-
I agree they will likely hire someone from outside. Didn't care for Piekos (when he subbed for Brown) and I wouldn't mind seeing more of Wade in the anchor chair.
-
Surprised they didn’t pick one of their veteran reporters (Hope, Garcia, etc..) to absorb Liz’s duties. Do they have anyone available to co-anchor with Chatman?

Kristen Kirchhaine joins NBC 5 weather team It appears she is part of the WMAQ weather team on a freelance basis. She previously worked for TMJ4.

Making such a move requires a lot of long-term planning and is not something that can be done overnight. This whole ordeal is very, very complex and complicated.

Honestly, if this issue isn't resolved quickly; then I don't see Disney waiting until next year to take some type of action. If that means going to court or pulling the affiliation outright. Not sure what Sinclair's endgame is here. They made their point and should move on. Why risk losing the affiliation and the ad revenue that goes along with it over something as trivial as this?
