  1. Hahahaha! That's not embracing technology. That's using technology to keep the old tools working even as they fail. I won't walk you through how this is a totally trash idea, like rearranging deckchairs on the Titanic. Instead, I'm just going to do what I'm going to do to change it and watch the ship go down.
  2. The mass consolidation, new streaming services and cable cutting indicate it's shrinking.
  3. I remembered the facts incorrectly. George is Chief Anchor at ABC. I know that WNT is riding strong, but there are fewer viewers. For instance, being #1 when you there are only 100K viewers isn't as impressive as is being #1 when there are 1 million. Just sayin'...
  4. That has nothing to do with my statement. Thank you for sharing why George Stephanopoulos is a great Managing Editor though. Haha!
  5. So regardless of my opinion, the ratings aren't exactly soaring. That's quite enough for me to see that she doesn't make a compelling anchor or ME. That, informing my opinion, doesn't make me look too kindly on the move to DC. Also, since the formatting is pretty much identical across networks, I would have blown that up instead of weakly leaning into it. Honestly, the network national program concept is sinking pretty quickly and a reinvention to inspire whatever viewers are remaining would be good.
  6. You are right. I am wrong. Seems like TMStudios needs a Wikipedia page with that in it.
  7. What anti-trust issues? A company can have one of their subsidiaries do work for the parent and not get accused of anything illegal because they own them.
  8. Being the broadcast junkie that I am, one ends up not only finding love with TV stations, but also radio stations (and for me, the latter came first). Well, I discovered an interesting little footnote: TMStudios is an E.W. Scripps company. TM was owned by Jones Media Group (then known as JonesTM). Jones was purchased by Triton (and renamed TM Studios), Triton Radio Networks (now Triton Digital) in 2008. Triton was purchased by Scripps in 2018. Ergo, why are the Scripps stations using Stephen Arnold Music when they have their own composers in-house?
  9. Making the jump to WCNC?
  10. That's not being used. So first ripping off the Trib graphics and now BBC. Interesting...
  11. Boooo! The Dispatch website is superior.
  12. Is WTSP seriously switching to this logo? What is with all of these ridiculous throwbacks? That or logos that are slapped together: TEGNA has no branding game. Clear your browser cache.
  13. How many lower market stations would Nexstar spin out to Allen and Apollo in order to clear that market cap?
  14. But they would keep KUSA and spin off KDVR/KWGN to Fox in a heartbeat.
  15. It's the GMs decision about when/if to launch that... Part of the business integration process. I feel that, though, the Dispatch layout is superior and I think both GMs have that opinion as well.
  16. Their performance is the result of strong profit margins, but not better content. You can still be profitable and not provide any value to anyone other than current shareholders. They aren't providing a superior product, just lower costs. So did KUSA, finally.
  17. And yet... https://finance.yahoo.com/news/tegna-announces-strong-preliminary-first-100000110.html
  18. I, too, am really skeptical of Kim, but the facts are clear. Tegna's stock is around $10 a share. They posted strong first quarter profits but are still furloughing workers. Management continues to make unpopular decisions and they continue to undervalue their top 20 assets. This is a huge issue for shareholders. While it may make a sweet deal for any potential M&A who see what the raw station assets can be spun into, it means persistent undervalue of station employees. This is the biggest thing that drives me crazy about capitalism. Put your employees first and everything else will follow.
  19. Dave Lougee was the GM of KUSA. That's the last station he would sell.
  20. No. This isn't a knockoff. It's a standard. This is like saying WNEM's graphics are a CBS O&O knockoff because it's the same package. Fox stations around the county use this logo we call it the 'Fox Box'. If you're going to blame KXPI for using it, then blame the dozens of other Fox affiliates who've used it as well. I will point out that the biggest inconsistency here is '5' font.
  21. It's not a full-time gig though and costs the stations money. Also with the map technology available, anyone can create a traffic report. It's better to offload it onto someone with fewer duties.
  22. Because that job can typically be combined with another role. Unlike Meteorology, traffic doesn't require a degree.
  23. They should have Colbert guest host.
