I'm not sure if this was the thread where we were discussing inaccuracies in their traffic tickers. It looks like it has improved and in the few instances mentioned during the traffic report the traffic appeared correct on the ticker.

I wonder if Harry Smith is going to be an official anchor for weekend Today. On Sunday's broadcast they announced with Erica Hill and Harry Smith. Maybe it was just because it was a special edition of Today but it seemed off given that since Lester Holt left the names have been dropped.

I honestly don't know. In the years past all the stations used their talent (or retired) to promote BGE's energy saver program, which is a program that allows BGE to control your condenser to save energy on hot summer days - where it runs half the time. Stations for years (save for WBAL who previously used a generic spokesperson who now uses retired meteorologist John Collins) used their news talent to promote the program. Although it is advertising I think stations turned the other way ethically realizing its for a good cause - energy conservation.

Maybe it's just me but this seems like an advertisement for BGE on WMAR's Instagram account: You may not see the caption in the embed but here it is: abc2newsSaving energy is saving money! Homeowners everywhere are becoming more knowledgeable of their energy consumption habits. Here in the Baltimore area, Baltimore Gas and Electric (BGE) makes it easy to follow with the My Account feature. Visit BGE.com

I don't see her coming back from this especially with some of the allegations. In my opinion being named or even alluded in a criminal indictment in a negative light is worst than making yourself look good (like Brian Williams). I also got my little Periscope trivia prize today in the mail. It's a pair of ear buds and a carrying case key chain. Sure it's not a coffee cup or a NBC 10 / T62 throw blanket but it's something I'll use. The ear buds probably never will be used but I'll throw my better pair in.

Chris is going to a location closer to his home, in a decent sized market (DMA #11) to anchor the "flagship" 11 PM newscast and to be a "face" of the station. So it's not a complete downgrade. FYI his last day is November 20. Like NateinFLA said:

Is it really an exclusive interview when your step mother, who is on leave after being mentioned in a federal indictment of her husband, works at the TV station? WCAU billed an interview with Chaka Fattah Jr an exclusive hours after he was found guilty of 22 out of 23 federal counts of tax and bank fraud.
-
He seems nice on Periscope but maybe he just wasn't working as well as they expected. Keep in mind he's going from hosting 4-6AM in DMA 4 to hosting the evening news in DMA 11. I've seen jumps like this in the past.

According to rabbit ears NBC will be 1080i, while CBS will be 720x480, it appears CW and MeTV are 4:3. From the video announcement I kind of got the message that they will be HD on cable/satellite as they talked about HD upgrades. Now I wonder if they will share newscasts? http://www.rabbitears.info/market.php?request=print_station&facility_id=60654 Edit It appears CW will be launched in HD on TWC. http://www.wktv.com/news/WKTV_bringing_CBS_affiliation_to_Utica.html

From what I recall (and consulting Wikipedia) it's the beginning of the New Year for Summer Olympics and the beginning of the television season for the Winter Olympics. At first I thought it was a mistake when they uploaded their Ravens logo in the name dropper where everything turns purple (save for the Olympics rings) on Purple Friday's. When the logo first appears on screen it starts out with a Ravens helmet, then rotates to the broadcast team badge and finally their purple Ravens logo. As a side note Ava Marie returns tomorrow from maternity leave.

I don't know about WBAL because this season they completely cancelled the standard over night rerun (on NBC stations at least) during the fourth hour rerun of Today in favor of Access Hollywood Live. I still wonder how Doctor Oz may be doing in the ratings over all given the recent scandals. But it's also worth noting WBAL is looking for an Anchor/Reporter on their website. So maybe there will be some expansion come the New Years (when mid season changes occur). Also WBAL has been using there Olympic logo for their newscasts, bugs during programming, station ID's and even a give away. Everything except Baltimore appears on air. During Ravens season we have purple Friday's and everything except the Olympic Rings turn to a translucent purple.

I thought it was augmented reality because as the camera was moving the graphics stayed stationary for the most part but as they moved around you could see the different layers as it was In a 3D space.
-
So when did CBS This Morning replace the "floating" rear projection screen next to the green room with an identical monitor wall? Also I just noticed they are doing augmented reality bit using the Cronkite map that's in a corner between the existing video wall and the video wall showing the control room multi viewers. They are now using the Cronkite map to show where different stories originated (usually the front page is shown). Previously they would use one of the aforementioned video walls but now they appear to be using a steadicam. As they zoom in showing a city using the steadicam and there would me a box overtop the area on the Cronkite map. Then once they show the location they put a bigger element in front of the location box showing the newspapers front page and finally the article is shown closest to the viewer. You could see the floating graphics move back and forth with the camera operator. It was pretty fluid so I guess it was a rig. Anyone know what is powering both the virtual reality and sensor systems. Hopefully my explanation of augmented reality made sense.

Very smart move. Otherwise I'm sure many would be fired for interrupting live shots and photo bombing camera angles at the Today Show.

To be honest I only checked the major roadways. I didn't feel like looking up the minor roads to see if it was correct. But chances are if the ticker is wrong about the major roadways/highways they're wrong on the minor roads.
-
I don't know when this change occurred but Ashley James seems to be a co anchor now for Good Morning Maryland. She previously did in studio reporting but now is listed under the anchors tab of their website. Also you can add WMAR to the outdated traffic ticker list. Weather seems to be on point.

I forgot to mention this but a while before yesterday's 4AM newscast their computer networks went down. From what I understand nearly everything went down and they were able to get a bare bones show on air and most was normal around 4:30 AM when they started peri scoping. I'm not familiar with OverDrive but does it regularly back up the working order in iNews containing the run down, scripts, MOS and other essential data? If the other network issues pertained could they start the broadcast using the backed up running order already in overdrive. Now was yesterday's outage, just a normal outage, an outage due to neglect, an outage due to an inexperienced scab doing the work or a striker trying to mess them up.

I thought Jenna Wolfe was good at anchoring Today and was sad to see her go. However I think once she was demoted and had her first child she may have wanted to take a different role. I only say this because her partner Stefanie Gosk is a correspondent and may not always be there so Jenna may have wanted a more typical 9-5 job.

I just fast forwarded through last nights show and saw no references at the end of each block nor at the end of the show. I did see that they have a new sports program airing at 11:30 Sunday Mornings called "The Nest with (Ravens Kicker) Justin Tucker". The show goes up against an hour of Ravens Produced programming on WBFF with "Ravens Unscripted" and "Ravens Wired". The Ravens programming seems kind of odd because first Justin Tucker does promos for WBAL's APP & Newscasts and then the programming on WBFF seems to go against WBAL's claim of being the "Official Broadcast Home of the Baltimore Ravens". Those programs that air on WBFF are also carried on Comcast Sports Net and in the past on WBAL +. It can't be any worse than clicking a link about a now retired news anchor who now does porn's personal tumblr.

Thanks. I wasn't sure. I've heard some stations have switched to either cell phones calls only or push to talk enabled devices. I don't know the specifics but think of it as a walkie talkie.

Are the strikers following WCAU live trucks out to the shots or are they finding out locations from the radio (assuming WCAU still uses radios)? Have any WWSI live shots been interrupted?
-
The weather ticker was redesigned with the graphics change but it was similar to the ones they've used in the past during severe weather.

I'm trying to figure out how will these technicians and management will get along once the strike is over. It must be awkward to return to work and resume a relationship with your employer and colleagues that you have been publicly trashing for the past week. Is there any word on those two employees that were hit by station vehicles? I'm at Also wasn't a KTTV employee on strike a few weeks back fired for interrupting a live shot?
