1. Was watching on Periscope and things seemed hectic in the studio and they just ended the periscope stream due to "circumstances". That and a few people came in protesting. The guy that runs it said hopefully everything will be normal on Monday.
2. Due to the control room & photographer union strike.
3. Gio Benitez proposed to his boyfriend in Paris today: Congratulations to the happy couple.
4. It's worth noting that Nicole Wallace was on Today Show this morning billed as an MSNBC Analyst rather than a Morning Joe Contributor. ABC's loss is MSNBC/NBC's gain.
5. I think that's because of all the regulations relating to commercial use. They can't use the drone near/over people and buildings; it has to be operated by a licensed pilot; and Weeters said that a flight plan had to be filed. Those restrictions make it really hard to use it for newsgathering. The only thing I thing drones would be useful for would be some promo shoots. I believe when WABC demo'd their drone they did it over an empty beach. WCAU was at the beach as well and there was a handful of people on there. They were near an pier that had an amusement park on it and it made for some more interesting shots as well.
6. What ever his schedule is I bet it's not going be anywhere near any of Nightly News's timeslots.
7. I find it amazing how Gannett and now Tegna constantly feel the need to slap their name on everything. I saw in this humorous Instagram photo KARE's booth (building really) at the Minnesota state fair which had a sign that read "Minnesota's own KARE 11. A TEGNA Company". I find kind of ridiculous that they brand everything this way as TEGNA doesn't really provide any services as their own. Comcast kind of does the same thing with their idents on NBCSN and on the opening credits of Universal movies. I kind of think of this as different as Comcast init of itself offers it's own services and those aforementioned properties are different divisions. I also believe that Comcast does this to make their public image a bit better by reminding viewers that they do provide great products despite some issues with their cable quality and customer service.
8. I was talking to a producer who was in their ingest room who asked the technician how many they could handle. But I asked how long does it take for the signal to go through Encompass in Atlanta and back? And the anchor answered they were not hubbed even though the monitor listed the different Encompass feeds they were getting (one for OTA and another for Comcast).
9. Just a quick question to see who you are who you say you are: Once WCAU finishes converting their receive sites how many HD ENG will they be able to handle at once? (I asked during a periscope Q&A one morning at 4AM. )
10. I shouldn't have brought it up but at the same time I was trying to make a joke while being as vague as possible. I appologize for spreading that rumor. I had no right to spread it and discuss an anchors personal life. I heard about it from a comments on TVNewser.
11. Maybe he's upset that a colleague he was rumored to be with has moved on.
12. Does not sound good. Is it a GoFundMe type of thing? Those crowd funding things drive me nuts especially when it's for something stupid. Also I meant ironed this in the ShoutBox but I asked during their morning periscope how long does it take for the signal to reach the hub and back for transmission and they said they weren't hubbed. Is this true or are they mistaken? I asked if their digital operations center was where msnbc /cnbc live shots happen and they aid that happens in New York. I was referring to when people where in Philadelphia and former governor Rendell has appeared from Philadelphia with the monitor wall in view showing live NBC/Telemundo programming. Maybe they weren't the right right people on the know.
13. Tracy and Chris seem to have good chemistry and have fun on the morning shift. If you ever seen their behind the scenes periscopes in the morning it appears they get along well.
14. WMAR is launching The Insider at 7:30 starting next week. Find it interesting that the show is going up against their sister show Entertainment Tonight.
15. I find it surprising they aren't giving WMAR The Now treatment. Scripps must be wanting to spare them from any more ratings woes.
16. I occasionally watch but my mother, who like myself is a liberal, really liked Nicole Wallace. She was the type of republican that made you want to agree with her. She made her point known but also had logical reasoning behind it. She was completely unlike any previous conservative panelists. They should have kept her on at least as a contributor with the up coming election cycle. To be quite honest The View with out politics was quite boring. I like Joy Behar and am glad she's returning. She should have never left.
17. If anyone's up between 4-7AM NBC 10 broadcasts on Periscope under their twitter handle @NBCPhiladelphia. The broadcast shows many of the behind the scenes elements of the studio and the anchors will frequently interact with viewers during commercial breaks. I've tuned in for a half an hour before falling back asleep and it's quite entertaining. They do it almost every morning and the videos are archived for 24 hours.
18. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CwRtCcN2tfM Never noticed how high up WRC's skycams are. In this clip you can see a helicopter flying on the bottom of the video frame. Also when did their news desk get a monitor installed?
19. WBAL didn't do that to their bugs but for their 65th year on air they ran a promo featuring their studio renderings and every logo they've used.
20. Ug. Wish they'd get rid of the orange room.
21. So I'm you already seen this but I just saw this tour of KYW. The tour guide was very funny, kind of like an older Ross the Intern. I loved the cleaning of the windows bit.
22. This morning they tossed to Jeff Rossen who was at the video wall. It was shot off axis with one or two panels of the wall and windows shown.
23. I think they are automation lite using ELC to control playout but that's about it. The director of engineering did an interview a year or two ago and seemed like they weren't going to do it. Edit: my local station isn't automated at all.
24. How much work would it take for Scripps to adapt their package from chyron to VizRT?
25. WBAL-TV's weekday morning meteorologist Ava Marie had her baby on Thursday. Miri Marshall WBAL's weekend morning and noon on weekday is pregnant as well. Something must be in the water in the weather center. [yt]5bphhNN88JQ[/yt]
