The Today Show broadcast from the White House this morning where Matt, Savannah, Natalie, Al and Carson (+Jenna Bush Hager). Matt has a recorded interview with POTUS and Savannah has a live interview with VPOTUS. Here's a photo of all the equipment they schlepped along. Royal "Park" Pollokoff a long time Baltimore anchor and presenter has passed away. He was one of WJZ's first anchors when it was still WAAM from 1951-1962. He then switched to WBAL that year and stayed with the station until 1994. While he was at WBAL he reported the news, played P.W. Doodle, hosted Pinbusters and Bowling for Dollars in addition to being an announcer. He is predeceased by his wife Phyllis (who passed away in December 2014) and leaves behind two of his three children, six grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. Condolences go out to his family. http://baltimore.cbslocal.com/2016/01/08/one-of-wjzs-first-anchormen-royal-parker-has-passed-away/ http://m.wbaltv.com/news/longtime-baltimore-tv-broadcaster-royal-parker-dies-at-86/37335332

As far as I know they still live stream - the different shows all appear in the NewsON app (which takes the streaming feed).

Just thinking out loud but WBAL had a listing out for an Anchor/Reporter about a month ago. I don't think anyone is leaving but maybe they were considering / planning a 4PM newscast with Meredith Vieira being canceled?

The Brokaw News Center is right next to the river as well. I think there's a garage or parking immediately next to the river.

Lowell Melser at 11 is a meteorologist and they use him when they need a fill in. I find it a bit odd that KFOR's sub channels are off when the main signal was restored but they are carried on cable.

To be totally honest if NBC were offering this as a supplemental / optional coverage for the central time zone they should have provided resources to WMAQ to make it great. It went out to 42 other stations and nationally on Cozi and Telexitos in addition to WMAQ/WSNS.
-
Also it's worth noting that 40 other stations and Cozi broadcast Chi-Town rising so that should show some influence name wise.

Still in use here at WBAL and WJZ. I think WMAR does it for certain events as well.

There's a map!? I find maps during severe weather useless as usually you can't really make out the counties - especially if you live in a large DMA. I think the Hearst ticker was designed so you can see the alerts county by county at quick glance while the line below it shows the detailed alert information.

To be honest they all have Ellen as a strong lead in but viewers would switch over if their product isn't good. What exactly is going to be removed from WCVB's schedule for the 4:30pm newscast? Also, what program is being removed (transferred to KQCA?) on KCRA?

No, I don't see Jose doing any more than hosting Saturday Nightly and appearances on MTP and pre recorded bits for NN. But I don't see it as a quota system. That being said NBC is realizing that Hispanics are a growing demographic so they should have their main anchor appear on the "flagship" network. A while back when Telemundo rebranded they specifically mentioned the "duality" of this generation who speak both English and Spanish. I think his appearances simply are showing just that.

So Jose Diaz-Balart substituted on Nightly News last night and he tweeted that he will be anchoring every other weekend. He's taking some time off and will be back in January.

I don't think I've read it anywhere that he was banned but rather others will fill in.

I only saw a post on TVNewser the other day but apparently on the final segment of December 8's broadcast of Nightly News had essentially what was two and a half minute editorial by Tom Brokaw on the comments that Trump made about banning Muslims. I agree with what Tom Brokaw said but I can't remember any time in recent memory where Nightly News did any thing like this. You can watch what Nightly called a "reflection" here: http://www.nbcnews.com/nightly-news/video/tom-brokaw-reflects-on-trump-s--dangerous-proposal--to-ban-muslims-582434371851

I don't feel like starting a new thread but I have a gripe about certain news apps such as NBC and ABC O&O and previously Hearst when they send out push alerts. You click the alert to view the message and and sometimes the app opens to what is essentially the stations website but first you get a splash page asking you to download the app before you can get to the news article while your already in the app. Is there any specific reason for this such as the web and app CMS being completely different? Where pushing a web link is quicker than updating the app properly for breaking news?

Vanessa Herring was recently hired as a reporter for WBAL after freelancing for them for past year. During this time frame she also freelanced at Hearst's Washington Bureaux and at WUSA.

Jose Diaz Balart is filling in on Nightly News again this weekend. I wonder if they are trying to introduce/groom him for future roles outside of Telemundo. It's a bit slow but they've been working him in a little bit at a time first appearing in interviews, then Meet The Press, some cross talk during election nights, his MSNBC show, one or two weekends co-hosting Today (his Noticiero Telemundo cohost Maria Celest Arraras filled in on Today's Take twice) and now being added into the rotation of Saturday Nightly. I'm a big fan of him and glad to see that he's getting credit where credit is due.

Looks like KNBC is the latest in line to get a storm chaser from NBC. Not quite as big as Texas Thunder Truck. But it's a Jeep Wrangler similar to the one NBC Connecticut got.

I've noticed during sweeps on certain days when there's a heavily promoted report WBAL forgoes commercials until the break between weather and sports. It was about 23 minutes into the show until they went to a normal commercial break. WBAL seems to be the only station to deviate from their normal break periods during sweeps. Do any other stations do this? I assume it's a tactic to keep viewers tuned into your channel instead of flipping over to competitors.

Because it costs money to staff a studio - camera operators and stage managers. It's a lot cheaper to do a broadcast from a studio where there's one camera that's robotically operated.
-
It's one of NBC's insert studios that is used for weekend Nightly News and other purposes. They have four of them available for use. Then they have the bigger studio that was used for Wake Up With Al, Noticiero Telemundo when they're in NY and MSNBC sometimes. Another studio is used to provide live continuity for Sprout - their children's channel. http://nbcny.filmmakersdestination.com/stages/global-media-insert-studios/ But your right - that's the desk that came from the old Nightly News studio. The image comes from the great Dennis Degan on Flickr.

Apparently he's being added into the rotation. I thought he did great. Telemundo is obviously proud:

Not good. I don't care for Mark Halperin he always comes across as smug on Morning Joe.
