1. They run Ignite - some producer or director creates a graphic using the Viz plugin in the rundown and it's not checked until it's cued for air.
2. Emily Miller is gone from WTTG. She was the chief investigative reporter. FTVLive reported that earlier this month the was working on a story about a charter school that had a black / white segregated fountain that was spiked after the dean complained. Apparently she promoted the story even after it was canned and hadn't been seen since. Emily is also a pro gun advocate (I'm not against guns but think there should be controls) who has spoken at the Maryland state house and wrote a book entitled Emily Gets Her Gun: But Obama Wants to Take Yours . Surprisingly the station had no problem with their chief investigative reporter taking a stance on this controversial issue.
3. Yesterday FTVLive reported on the pettiness of TEGNA management about their union employees. Union employees will not be reimbursed for parking fees at the new KING 5 studio nor are they able to access an employee discount program for major purchases. Today the story got picked up by Gawker bringing the issue to a larger audience.
4. I wouldn't have noticed or said anything of the picture wasn't posted to Facebook. Posting something like that just makes it evident that work has been done.
5. And had some bad Botox / plastic surgery. I have no issues with some Botox but at least make it appear somewhat natural - you don't need to take out all the wrinkles. Maybe leave a little bit of crows feet. Necks without wrinkles are signs of plastic surgery. Does WLS provide make up artists for talent? I'd imagine WABC and Live with Kelly and Michael share make up artists.
6. If there's a lot of helicopters in the air I'll look up. Having a distinctive color scheme that's featured in promos would allow keen viewers to see that your on the scene. Logos on the side probably aren't that big of the deal because most people won't be able to see it for long. The main reason why stations likely have elaborate design is for promo's. WJZ has a rather bland looking helicopter that's dark red and black that just has NEWS in large text on the sides with a small CBS Eye and 13 logo. This helicopter is never used in promos and they use their old bird.
7. Was she suspended with pay? If so she must of been a drain of resources. With her seniority they probably could hire a few new reporters or two anchors.
8. WPTV is promoting their new "Chopper 5" on Facebook. Oddly enough it has the same call sign N83U as their previous bird. Looks like it just got a paint job and the FAA agrees. Edit: It looks like they just gutted it. Apparently they ditched the SD equipment and replaced the gimbal with an UHD camera and 1080p cameras inside. None of which you can see over the air except for better quality. Edit 2: Yeah, watching the video they are touting the Ultra HD a bit much. They're using the Flir UltraMedia HD which uses the Sony HDC 1500 head on a gimbal.
9. I don't know if it's been mentioned that John Ralston who lost his show when Sinclair bought KSNV is now an NBC News Politcal Analyst. As a side note I'm actually watching broadcast TV syndication of Rizzoli & Isles for the first time on WBAL at 0230 Sunday and 0300 Monday. Normally I watch BBC World News at this time and the local ad breaks for this show were promos.
10. For some reason I can't access the video but I'm surprised they would be starting the move now with the spectrum repack and the FCC station freezes. I do remember seeing construction permits in their FCC file but with the possibility of moving RF channels and possible moving of bands it could be a waste of money.
11. It seems like recent CBS designs/launches were brought by "Your local Chevy Dealer".
12. Same for WJZ. It's completely understandable using the A team after a big broadcast. Coincidentally I played an old newscast first that I had no idea why I saved it until weather showed up. During the weather forecast a watermark from BrainStorm eStudio was animating with their logo and text that said "Your license does not allow for video output".
13. I'd say it would be difficult to have a regularly scheduled noon newscast on the west coast due to sports being well underway. There probably would be numerous preemptions that I'd think would make it difficult for them to find a dedicated audience.
14. I read one of the robotic pedestal manuals where the first option to pressurize the column was nitrogen gas, while the second option was using an air compressor using clean dried air and the third option was a hand pump I guess nitrogen gas is preferred because it is clean and less likely corrode the interior of the column.
15. Stefan Holt did one of those Facebook Live streams that NBC Chicago's Facebook page shared. I just caught glimpses of it and I had no idea how narrow the studio is. There's probably twelve feet from the front of the anchor desk to some small desks on the other side which held the stage managers and prompter operators desks. He then did a quick loop behind the scenes showing some edit booths, the control room and a reporter getting some stuff from a vending machine. Behind the vending machine there was a door that said no smoking because there were nitrogen tanks inside. What would nitrogen tanks be used for in a studio environment be used for or are they likely just used for the building in an unrelated purpose? I've only heard of nitrogen being used on transmitters to pressurize the transmissions lines up to the antenna. I don't know how long these videos last but here's the link:
16. I can't remember are the side panels on their background projectors as well?
17. Thats what I was wondering. I didn't think any of their reports were bad either. It wouldn't be interesting TV if they only talked to decided voters.
18. Did any of you find the NBC set designs in Des Moines pandering, as some people on TVForum.co.uk thinks so? I didn't find it pandering but rather they blended in with their environments andlikely removed the existing kitsch with NBC kitsch. Going speak with a lot of glass and metal would contrast greatly with the overal ambiance.
19. Derek Valcourt of WJZ had his last shift Friday. There was no mention of where he's going or what he's doing next. His husband, Adam May, is a reporter for Al Jazeera America's America Tonight so in a few months they'll be free to move where ever the jobs take them next.
20. I cleared my history, cache and cookies and saw the message you were referring to. I logged back into Facebook and it was visible. If you can't view it here's the Facebook group, Overheard in The Live Truck, where it was posted. Maybe you will have to like the group to see it. If your having difficult it was a picture of a sign of a gentlemens club, Dream Girls SoDo, which read "Girls, Girls, Girls" and below that it read "Welcome to the Neighborhood K5" where they used their logo. I don't know it will work but here's the direct link to the photo.
21. It's always nice when a neighbor welcomes you into the neighborhood. I wonder what their welcoming gift for KING 5 will be. https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=10153964143234446
22. I don't know if it's been mentioned here but I saw a report on WJZ that incorporated bits from KYW and I must say I like their mid flags. The three dimensional aspect of it makes it stand out.
23. WBAL brought in Rob Roblin in for Maryland State Police's Polar Bear Plunge for today and tomorrow. Today the super plungers started where they go in once an hour for 24 hours. Tomorrow is for the general plungers.
