1. My question is who is the manufacturer of the radar? Baron or EEC? Will it tie into their WSI graphics (if it's EEC) or will it require its own system that just shows the one radar site?
2. I could easily see both KTVW and KTAZ claim ratings victories as there's a large Spanish speaking community in Phoenix. When there are only two main stations that produce Spanish language news the audience is going to be bigger unlike the English stations which are fragmented. Look at how WSCV has dominated their time slots the past few cycles.
3. So I knew WWSI's studio was small but not this small: Look at how close the chroma key gets to the news desk:
4. CBS Primetime is still in the safe zone. According to DCRTV former WMAR anchor turned WBAL Radio host Mary Beth Marsden has been let go from the station which has been suffering lowering ratings. She spent the past five years at the station after taking a buy out from WMAR. I think I way to increase WBAL-AM's ratings would be to merge the news departments or make them much closer than they already are. Maybe bring them back to sharing a news director.
5. Do even the NY stations have that many people on their weather staff. I imagine they have one or two producers in the background but now it seems that in the afternoon / evening newscasts one of the weekend meteorologists is there.
6. I love this new take on vertical video. Much different than the Mila Kunis one. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yMAYUuNRQNg
7. I've noticed that lately his time off has actually been for interviews. Say he's off three days one week and the next week he has an interview. His most recent absence (about two weeks ago) was due to the flu. Supposedly he's making $25 million and Savannah's at $12 million with the others about half as much. I think Parade magazine put Robin Roberts salary at $6-8 million.
8. Either way CNBC and CNBC 2 is redundant as the channels total a different audience.
9. I like that they still focus on politics for the majority of their programming.
10. As long as he's on the air. I hope it's just not because Florida is coming up.
11. I don't care about it but my biggest complaint about the package is that the line that divides two lines of text on the lower third is still visible when the story title is double height.
12. Maybe their agreement with MyTV/ H&I doesn't provide an out - MeTV's standard agreement allows certain time frames to be preempted.
13. I imagine it's a new radar system. As far as I know the WSI augmented reality graphics rely on Ross CamBot pedestals and I think they still have those big Vinten Radamec ones. Do any of the stations have a dual pol radar either from NWS or perhaps their own?
14. I bet Jenna Wolfe is getting the last laugh. There was no reason for Jenna to be kicked off as a co anchor and then news reader.
15. So I know ABC doesn't want to pay enough for GMA to be in Times Square on the weekends and the office space there would probably be expensive. I assume GMA's offices are at 77 West 66th Street and therefore most of the staffers are based there during the show. I curious how does that effect production of the show and logistics? - From what I've seen of Today BTS the producers are in the booth during there segments.
16. Exactly. They make a major CAPEX to safe OPEX for multiple years.
17. At least the guys will be warm. A lot of reporters the past few winters have discovered the Canda Goose jackets that are down comforters and are great for snow and high wind chill conditions. I imagie some stations with slot of snow / below 0° temperatures wish they could get those but the jackets that are any different start at $625 - probably well above the limit they'd pay for a jacket. They're bulky and make the talent look huge - but they would keep the crew warm, dry and safe. But hey frost bite is worth the risk to save a few hundred.
18. Wish I saw this before starting this thread.
19. It's not a big deal. WBAL, WMAR and WBFF (the latter two are sponsored by LL Bean and Under Armour, respectively) here all have multiple jackets and sometimes the men wear branded beanies/baseball hats. Some of the stations aren't as strict especially when it's really cold. To be honest I'm surprised WJZ doesn't have them considering they like to slap their branding on everything. I mean it's not like WFLD will turn into KING 5 with their yellow jackets and the promotions about them.
20. I don't think CBS hubs anymore - I've seen employment advertisements for local master control operators. Hearst doesn't hub - they had to build out and hire operators when they bought WVTM and WJCL. I think national ad sales/ processing are hubbed in Orlando and distributed to stations but everything else is local.
21. Worth noting that Al Sharpton was on the air this morning and my TiVo listings show a regular schedule this week. The past few weeks it was pretty much The Place For Politics after Morning Joe. Speaking of Morning Joe I was disgusted by that leaked audio during the Trump Town Hall discussing the types of questions upcoming during a commercial break. Mika sounded like she was going for harder questions but Joe over ruled her. I also grew tired of how over the past few years how Mika went from the objective host has started becoming too cozy with politicians and how she submits to Joe despite her books on empowering women.
22. Just look at Wikipedia all of the current ABC's Owned Stations have been with the company since the Cap Cities purchase of the network. There were two stations that they owned from 1995 (the year Disney bought the company) until 2011 when they were sold to SJL. ABC's Owned Stations
23. Based on their long term history and ABC's hierarchy on the Disney totempole. Also, ABC O&O stations tend to be the ratings leader in their market. Why would they want to own stations that have been starved ratings wise and are in debt?
24. I'm not even sure if the graphic/CSD department would be used in making generic chyrons / OTS is images are already in the database (like a McDonalds logo).
25. Why is it that people have this obsession with ABC investing in or buying Scripps? ABC is small change to Disney and ABC doesn't buy.
