1. As many of you know I'm a fan of his and glad he's getting his due. I will miss seeing him on MSNBC but this is such promotion. I wonder if he will have a day off during the week? I believe EnFoque is recorded during the week.
2. Here's a brief look at the font according to Wikipedia. Edit: It would help if I included the link.
3. Like you could do anything with that visual stimulation without the help of a blue pill.
4. I am intrigued as to what would happen during severe weather especially when the meteorologist isn't able to control the computers? I'm also curious as to the cost savings - those stations have someone there that is trained to operate the weather computer on staff to upload the files to him . I wonder why they can't rely on one of their anchors to present the forecast for even more cost savings. Also wonder how much the price point is between this and some AccuWeather services?
5. I've seen stuff about forecaster Geoff Fox doing weather remotely for Nebraska and previously Palm Springs beforehand but Newtek - the equipment manufacturer he uses reposted a link to their blog post featuring his setup. Anybody know what type of weather services he uses for his forecasts? Edit: Looked at another post which says his maps and graphics are produced at the station, FTP'd to him and he puts it together.
6. The Storm Ranger promo featured the portions weather graphics where current information would appear..
7. This whole WaWa celebration sounds like the WMAQ's Chi Town Rising broadcast this past News Years. I imagine WCAU/WWSI's situation was just like WMAQ's - they're in charge of the broadcast and maybe have some say in the order of the lineup to make it a better fit for broadcast but not necessarily any say in the acts. I am a bit surprised that The Roots weren't involved or had their hand dealt to them to perform by Comcast - as they're a marquee sponsor and their employer. As for SkyForce 10 if there's shitty weather it may not be best to fly. I imagine if the view from the fireworks would be similar from the air as it would be on the ground because of the distance needed for safety. Back to Storm Ranger10 I asked Hurricane Schwartz in Twitter how the radar will work - whether it will send data back to the stations computers to render or if it will send a rendered image as a video signal back and he replied that both will be used.
8. If I had to guess its based on this system: http://www.eecweathertech.com/ranger-x-band-radar-systems.php If you look at their PDF's they say that it's been deployed on trucks and trailers before hand. There are a few pictures showing the trailer mounted version. The University of Oklahoma also has three mobile radar units - two on trucks and one trailer mounted. Still this is pretty impressive feat for a single O&O or as NateinFLA stated a cluster of stations to have.
9. What the other NBC stations did was they just took a radar system for boat and put it on a truck.
10. This vehicle was likely at least $1,000,000 - I wonder why they went this route when other stations got the marine based systems.
11. Jesus. What is that like NBC 10's version of the Bloom Mobile? Edit: it's the only dual polarity X band Doppler radar on wheels. I think it's a bit of overkill - is the weather in Philadelphia that bad to warrant this? Or will they end up parking it somewhere and use it as their own radar? I wonder if the data will be displayed /rendered on site or if they will send back a compressed data feed like a typical radar site would?
12. From what I've heard some Philadelphians don't like change. But for those out of area - what is the WaWa Welcome America Festival and was the WCAU broadcast that bad? I wonder how much more Comcast, WCAU and WWSI bid for the contract to broadcast or of the organizers wanted to expand the reach of the special with a simulcast on Telemundo 62.
13. I think Betty's pretty busy - she covers breaking news overnight (which has happened a lot) Early Today at 4AM, First Look at 5PM and then another edition of Early Today. Anymore I think they'd need to find a new anchor.
14. Watch it be the jeep that KNBC got. I can't see them spending the money for an F-250 for an area that gets no snow.
15. Watching Stephanie Ruhle as this is her first week anchoring MSNBC Live at 9AM and today's episode was good. I was wondering how she'd be as she been a bit reserved during the first few weeks on Weekend Today. She's certainly got quite a personality and I like it.
16. Horrific. Why did they leave the news business or could their exit be related to drug use?
17. Is this the same guy that does voice overs for Inside Edition promos?
18. Seeing this promo makes it clear to me that they really did want to design something similar or copy Hearst's Diagrid. I don't know about the other HTV stations but BAL certain has their share of promos which are extremely similar this design (the brief animation and the cutout background stick out the most).
19. Mediaite wrote an article saying JJ Ramberg is the longest running female anchor on MSNBC for ten years and the second longest anchor after Chris Matthews. JJ Ramberg hosts Your Business which is a sponsored show by American Express and airs at 7:30 Sunday mornings. I wonder how long the show would last on air if it wasn't sponsored by AmEx and what kind of ratings it brings in. JJ Ramberg is rarely used for anything else on MSNBC except for once in a blue moon appearance on Morning Joe. She's very knowledgable and runs a website with her brother called GoodShop.com which is a search engine for shopping where 50% of their revenues go to charities.
20. I was surfing around FCCInfo (what else would a twenty something being doing on a Saturday night?) and noticed KSTS the Telemundo station for San Jose / San Francisco / Oakland has a license for a STL from Murray, UTAH to some business park right next to the Intermountain Medical Center. I thought this was a screw up on FCCInfo.com I checked out the FCC website and it appears to be genuine (unless of course who ever filed it screwed up as well).
21. Steve Kornacki at 9, JDB @ 10, Tamron at 11, Andrea @ 12, Craig Melvin has been doing 1 several days a week, Thomas Roberts @ 2, Kate Snow @ 3 and Steve Kornacki usually has been doing the 4pm as well.
22. Just Google'd him to get an age range (never seen him before) figuring he must be of retirement age given his part time status and substitute teaching. Not to sound to crazy but if he graduated from college right after high school he probably has at least 10 more years until he's 65 based on his LinkedIn page. He's also a master craftsman doing woodworking.
23. Looks like Waterman Broadcasting WBBH/WZVN pissed off the local sheriff again. Apparently they were knocking on doors in Missouri possibly letting a suspect in a murder situation get away. A few days ago it appears that the station pissed off the sheriff when they questioned why an AMBER Alert wasn't issued until four days after a girl went missing. He ignored their questioning and walked away. In April the station almost compromised a "major heroin bust" by a report that disclosed some of the sheriff's office's surveillance techniques - one of which included cameras that were disguised as telephone boxes on utility poles. I can understand why the sheriff is getting angry at this station as they are making his job harder but at the same time it is the stations right to report a story and follow up. That being said I believe the station should not compromise ongoing investigations. The sheriff sounds like a hothead who doesn't want to deal with the public or press. At the same time this is another negative story about WBBH / WZVN.
24. Apparently John Oliver's most recent episode Last Week Tonight has not aired in the UK on Sky Atlantic because of the following segment on the Brexit. Sky Atlantic is reporting that they are not airing the show until after the European Union Referendum because it breaches OfCom rules. Rules in the UK are apparently very strict where shows have to give equal precedence to both sides. The segment in question was fifteen minutes long and was encouraging them to stay in the EU. Some people on Twitter are speculating it has to do with the fact that Rupert Murdoch is the majority shareholder (at (39.14% through 21st Century Fox) in Sky and that his son, James Murdoch, who is the chairman of the board are both assumed to be in the "leave camp". One of Murdoch's News Corp papers, The Sun, is saying that the UK should Leave the EU while The Times is in the remain camp.
25. Tonight ever NBC property features a black ribbon with the text Orlando next.
