1. Nice new London Bureau set.
2. Thinking about it they've done it before. They had a spot of one of their anchors standing in the studio while a time lapse of the show going on in the background. Additionally they did a weather one with a satellite truck in the background against the sky with clouds in the harbor - with the dish moving around at different elevations.
3. I don't think they're hurting for money - they wouldn't have hired two new anchors/reporters to fill shifts that for years were presented by a single person.
4. It turns out in the promo the talent will be in slow motion and the background will be "super fast mo".
5. I'm slightly confused about the use of the green screen for these promo shoots 11 is doing? Would they be shooting straight into the green screen, keying it out and keying it over a better shot of the same location?
6. Nope. Just the generic logo.
7. I can't imagine the sacrifices that families make for those that are in the news business. I've heard way too often tales of husband and wife journalists with kids working far apart.
8. From what I've seen on Instagram is that the old home base area of 3B is storage / green screen.
9. It looks different being animated but looks good. I wonder how it would have turned out if it was filmed and stylized together? The other package appeared to be easily customizable when Nightly was on location. Wonder how it will be handled now. The following likely will sound confusing simply because I don't know how else to describe or characterize the new open. I see several nods to the previous package. On the water by the Statue of Liberty you see some of the rectangles that intersected and in other places they kept things which I assume symbolize loading data. In another sense I can see a BBC style of influence where different buildings in Manhattan are sized up having different points on them on the lead up to 30 Rock. The lower thirds themselves are quite clean but still retain the Nightly Style where the corners feature intersecting perpendicular lines that go past the actual lower thirds.
10. Multiple news sources are saying that their sources are saying there's no discussion of punishment for such an old offense. That being said some articles say this has pissed off a lot of staffers who may not want to work with a misogynist in addition and that this could cause tensions between him and Tamron to rise.
11. He went to a small private liberal arts college (I did too), came from a well known family and was also two time captain of their lacrosse team all seem to be the makings of a douche. Apparently people at Access Hollywood were furious and believe that NBC News or someone at Today leaked the full tape. Access Hollywood edited the tape in their airing to protect the image of their former host. NBC News was planning on their own report after it aired on Access. They however deny the leak.
12. A cute little story at the end of KXAS's late newscast. A five year old boy is obsessed with the Texas Thunder Truck that they made him his own out of one of those little battery power cars young kids can drive around in. It has a tornado on the hood, the NBC 5 logo on the sides, lightning bolts throughout and mud on the tires. They plan on making a little satellite to put on back. I say the real Texas Thunder Truck needs to pay the boy a visit.
13. Who reported the fact of the tape first? Rachel Maddow made it sound like the Washington Post got it from a source but other NBC properties made it seem like they released it. I doubt NBC would be dumb enough to release the tape themselves (unless they only reported on clips and not the full conversation) given what Billy Bush said. Then again they could have leaked it as a way to get rid of Billy Bush on Today.
14. There could be a million things as to why she'd leave a nice afternoon-evening shift in DMA 4 to move to DMA 7 It could be seen as a demotion but maybe WRC came to her and offered her a greater salary despite a different shift? Hopefully she won't be stuck doing stupid segments out in the field where they interviewing businesses or some sort before giving an awful general forcast because they don't have the maps.
15. Adam May is returning to weekend news in Baltimore. He will now be coanchoring WBAL's 6, 10 and 11 PM newscasts in addition to reporting during the week. This is the second anchor/reporter hire they've made in a month that (so far) doesn't appear to be replacing anybody. After Al Jazeera America folded he's been freelancing for CBS Newspath. I'm sure he could have gotten a job in a bigger market if he wanted too. Baltimore seems to me be like a stepping stone market if your young and single but you don't see many people who set down roots here with families leave (or if they do it's to DC).
16. It never was a studio until the show moved there.
17. I hate to be the guy that links to another thread for this topic - but here's one I started. It appears it's also the one where Scott got his info from. I hope he doesn't think that the rendering in the article is what the newset will look like.
18. Even if the lady was still in charge of daytime Joy came back when the show was transferred to the news division.
19. I forget was Joy "let go" originally or did she decide to leave on her own. I really like the days she moderates and enjoyed her HLN and Current TV shows.
20. Maybe I'll start a thread later about Sky's new cube studio in their new building but here's a quickie.
21. Apparently there's a 19 day arts festival in Grand Rapids Michigan. So WZZM asked a local art college, Kendall College of Art and Design at Ferris State University to come up with their newsdesk for the event. The news desk will be used for their coverage from the art festival. The desk is made up from reclaimed materials and has a circular theme. The items featured on the desk represent various industries from Grand Rapids and Michigan as a whole There are many beer bottles (wonder if they were donated or just came from the dorms) as a homage to the many draft breweries in the area. Let's just say that it's unique: Image Courtesy of TVNewsCheck's MarketShare.
22. Will Donna be doing the whole hour while Andre and Stan each do 1/2 ?
23. And NBC's Digital Team is going to bitch why he didn't use StringWire?
24. Curious where is Jonathan Dienst coming from? Is it one of the bureaus?
25. Nightly coming from the fourth floor:
