It's interesting. But let's be honest until the mountain and central time zone feeds are cut.- 3684 replies

So what did you guys think of the confirmation hearings Thursday. First a power cut blacked out the room and cameras when Russia was mentioned and then on the house floor c-span's online live feed was replaced with RT for 10 minutes.

They do produce a syndicated show Matter of Fact which launched last year but moved to more markets.

Meredith was great and a it was a once in a life time opportunity. You would have to be crazy to turn it down. She made more than enough money to retire very comfortably before she was 60. Also she seemed to be an equal (knew how to stand up and challenge) to Matt compared to Ann and Savannah. It's a shame that they ignore her but to be honest I don't think she would return. She was publicly humiliated and treated like shit. Sure she did some reports for Nightly and Rock Center after the fiasco but she as well was given a boat load of money to be leave and be quiet.

The same with WESH's projected backdrop that looks like it uses the the prior graphics package. I can't recall if the backdrop displays graphics but it seems odd that it wasn't updated when the package debuted. Seems like it could have easily been replaced.

NO based on legal grounds and obscenity laws.

Is it possible that it was produced back at the station and done through the automation system? The transitions seem very simple with quick cuts between sources. Edit: Figure I should clarify what I meant. As I saw the video I thought it could have been done through overdrive with the director using a breakout panel to change the camera source rapidly compared actually using the switcher to fading it up and off.

Looks like WJZ finally got a HD bird.

It was on Nightly News on Sunday around five minutes into the broadcast.

I must of asked the right questions through out life because as I turned 18 I found myself admitted into Johns Hopkins. The hospital that is.

I with what you said. I attributed some of it to a language gap. But the COO mentioned a 100 Mbps backbone by Time Warner (I don't think they even operate there) - which does not seem like enough.

Here's an interesting article from TVNewsCheck's Playout vertical about how LiveU is preparing for the inauguration. They will primarily be relying on the cellular network but like other high profile events they'll setup WiFi hotspots. Maybe I'm mistaken but doesn't the secret service use cell phone jammers when the president's on the move? Also, I think their COO's comments about Fox and NBC not repairing their satellite trucks when they break down is a bit off. I understand that cellular news gathering is a lot more common place but I can't see the networks not repairing a vehicle. The trucks are extremely expensive and can't imagine they would put it off to the side if it's still within its useful life cycle. Additionally the networks frequently own/lease transponder space for the long term so it would be a waste to NOT fix a truck.

The PR link I mentioned said they won outright for the week of December 12. Savannah was already on leave - she had her baby on December 9. I'm just worried that they might see significant and consistent gains while she's gone. Thinking if Hoda is filling in those weeks they win outright they may not want to mess with it. But I imagine this may be a reason why she renegotiated her contract before going on leave.

Also WBAL has some interesting promos out. Two are holiday related. One was set to "'Twas the Night Before Christmas" promoting the Ravens at Steelers game on Christmas Day. The second one was promoting their app showing Santa in his sleigh looking at traffic reports. Another generic promo was touting that their new website layout matches their popular App design.

I would definitely resize the bug. Perhaps if they expanded the standard lower third parallelogram to the width of the screen they could insert the bug on top of the lower third. Again I'm thinking of Look F where when the lower third disappears the bug remains but against the video backdrop instead of the blue backdrop - similar to what they do during syndicated programming but with the bug in color. I would really like it if they also removed the white translucent bits to the left and right of the lower third and the bug (that really serve no purpose). I think it was because it had a good sense of motion, sleekness and was extremely polished when it first appeared. You didn't see that type of background animations in a while. Granite they were a bit busy (especially the rotating Diagrid disc) but they've since slowed down where WBAL now primarily uses a simple slow movement of the Diagrid in rows going accross the screen.

I love Savannah but these numbers would make me worried if I were her. Today wins week of December twelfth outright. http://press.nbcnews.com/2016/12/20/today-wins-7th-week-in-total-viewers-demo/

Thinking of maybe a 2.0 similar to Look F. Maybe get new opens, make the tickers and lower thirds widescreen. Perhaps a bolder blue?

Starting January 16 WBFF will be starting their morning newscasts at 4:30 AM (previously 5AM) and it will run through 10AM. This leaves WJZ as the lone 5AM hold out.

Thomas Robert's show has come to an end. His last show was this past Thursday. MSNBC hasn't commented but an insider says they are in discussions for his future role.

Watched it on NewsON. I'd say they're pretty lucky it was just relegated to one block. Almost seemed like they used a template that was normally used but with Ravi being off threw them literally off and the one block wasn't corrected. Surprised the robotic cameras bumped into each other. I thought they were supposed to have anti collision bumpers and sensors on them - unless the heads colliding was what caused the vibration and shaking.

Surprised at Hearst. Couldn't find any comments aside from the FTV post. Some of their executives made comments against Trump. Sure the founder was conservative but now it didn't seem like it. Wasn't much Trump coverage here given it's a blue state.

It looks like it's the old ticker. With the last package didn't they shrink the video frame in its entirety to where the program is shrunken but with a U shaped background with the ticker at the bottom. Rant:

Thinking we need to start a list with all the NBC stations that have gotten new radars. Also maybe we should buy stock in EEC.

It's the annual White House Christmas party for journalists.

Interesting read from The Washington Post on how ESPN's loss of subscribers has Disney investors worrying and how it might effect the TV landscape. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-switch/wp/2016/12/07/one-of-disneys-most-popular-brands-has-investors-really-worried
