1. Not as bad as I thought it would be.
2. Is this the updated TEGNA graphics people here have been talking about?
3. NBC News is shuttering the Breaking News app, website and twitter feed. A disappointment.
4. I'd love it but I don't think the network and affiliates want him going up against Lester. Brian was pretty popular and viewers could switch over. Plus if I remember The News with Brian Williams was a longer show but featured a lot of content from Nightly News. Here's a promo saying it was "the best of NBC News in one hour".
5. I mentioned in the shoutbox that WMAR has a new vehicle creatively dubbed the "ABC2News Jeep Wrangler". Anyway it doesn't look like it's any specially customized truck from Frontline or Accelerated rather it looks like it came off the lot. The only customizations were some decals on the hood and doors saying it's a "live news vehicle" and they had someone insert a customer grille showing the Maryland flag (we love our flags here). https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=709533709196348
6. One issue is that the sets a bit too bright compared to the other newscasts and their old set. I think it may give off a slightly lighter vibe.
7. WBAL looks to be airing two specials on December 7 regarding Hairspray LIVE. The first one is "Hairspray: From Baltimore to Broadway and Beyond" at 7PM and at 7:30 "Countdown to Hairspray Live". Obviously the first one is local but is the Countdown show an optional program by NBC? http://www.wbaltv.com/article/preview-hairspray-live-and-watch-special-shows-on-wbal-tv-11/8352854
8. Have any video?
9. Alex Wagner named CBS TM Saturday Co-Anchor.
10. According to a WhoIs search it like some are still hosted by Internet Broadcasting.
11. WMAQ's President and GM is now taking over the same role for their Telemundo sister station WSNS. He's replacing Chris McDonnell, who led Telemundo Chicago since 2002, who left the company. The plan is to save money and increase efficiencies. I think this may be the third NBC/Telemundo duop that shares GMs the other two being WCAU/WWSI in Philadelphia and KNTV/KSTS serving the Bay Area. In Miami WTVJ/WSCV will soon be sharing a VP from WMAQ to serve as a VP Director of Digital Operations. http://www.robertfeder.com/2016/11/11/nbc-5-boss-david-doebler-adds-telemundo-station/
12. Get what WCPO's GM describes his reasoning of an eight month vacancy of their news director position: “This is an extraordinary station with a rich history and a progressive future. This news director job is like no other in the country with the broadcast and digital resources we have to cover the Tri-State.” Aside from their focus on digital and a paywall how is this different from other stations that are digital heavy? I mean they are DMA 36 and not the top 10.
13. This quick video is something I'd expect from WJZ. WBAL apparently has billboards up around town announcing his return to Baltimore TV. I believe he was pretty popular on WJZ and slightly surprised he wasn't picked back up by them.
14. Just checked my TiVo The View: Lifetime Election Day will air from 9:00 - 11:30pm.
15. Raven Simone is leaving The View at the end of the year. She will remain with the Disney company and starring / executive producing a spin off of That's So Raven. The new show will feature Raven as a single mother raising two kids.
16. It probably sounded good in theory based on the results of MSNBC and other installations in 30 Rock but they likely had to zoom in to avoid having the desk in shot.
17. The quality of the video wall never looked that hot and you could see the pixels.
18. There are some transmitter issues keeping WBZ and WSBK from being on air. OTA and Satellite viewers are affected. http://boston.cbslocal.com/2016/10/22/transmission-issue-causes-outage-for-some-wbz-tv-viewers/ Additionally WCVB is running at low power. http://m.wcvb.com/news/wcvb-operating-on-reduced-power-due-to-antenna-system-issue/42217168 Edit https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=10154142706842736
19. I agree with the fact that 3A needs to be updated or replaced given its age. However I think they may have more in store for the 4TH floor studio than being an "instant news" studio. Sure it would come in handy being right on the floor but the added technology makes me think they plan on using it for regular use. The video walls inside the glass enclosure and outside the floor as a whole would be a waste if it wasn't going to get regular use.
20. It is. I understand the need for WNBC to have a bigger studio as you can see the studio was cramped. I almost feel like this maybe a temporary studio for MSNBC to get them through the election. Or NBC simply wants to use all those vertical monitors until they die as they were over six figures a piece when the studio was built. The shot blocking is also really weird. I would either have the host use the background of the vertical monitor walls and shoot the guests against the other vertical monitor wall. It looks a bit sloppy with the host having one background and the guests with another oddly video wall shaped wall. Additionally the video wall they added to 3C looks like they didn't bother calibrating the monitors to one another - they appear to have different settings. I would also have gotten a high resolution backdrop of the fourth floor newsroom as it's not that crisp. Or they should just rely on one of the cameras WNBC uses for the virtual window. It's like MSNBC or 30 Rock has this budget for set design and doesn't know what to do with it. In the past year they debuted the Brian William'a cube in 3A, expanded its weather center, added LED video tiles to its wall (while neglecting another wall), they move into another glassed in studio on the fourth floor along with actually going into the open newsroom and now they debut this.
21. Nice new London Bureau set.
22. Thinking about it they've done it before. They had a spot of one of their anchors standing in the studio while a time lapse of the show going on in the background. Additionally they did a weather one with a satellite truck in the background against the sky with clouds in the harbor - with the dish moving around at different elevations.
23. I don't think they're hurting for money - they wouldn't have hired two new anchors/reporters to fill shifts that for years were presented by a single person.
24. It turns out in the promo the talent will be in slow motion and the background will be "super fast mo".
25. I'm slightly confused about the use of the green screen for these promo shoots 11 is doing? Would they be shooting straight into the green screen, keying it out and keying it over a better shot of the same location?
