  1. That was short. We'll see him at 10:25.
  2. The only notable graphic change tonight is #WGNat10 on the bug.
  3. I'm only talking about WLS. I'm assuming you're referring to the infamous coffin sets (picture above). If so, that set didn't come to Chicago until 1984 (possibly late '83). That said, the skyline portion (also referenced above) reminds me of the set that debuted in '81. Anyway, I am surprised that there's only a Ron Magers version...for now. Also, I think the only thing that would've improved the spot is if the News Series 2000 signature was incorporated into the music, but that would understandably yike up the production cost.
  4. No. I know what I said. 1981: 1984:
  5. ABC 7's not going down at 10 without a fight. A new promo campaign launched today touting the late newscast. Unlike some other recent promos, their not telling viewers to watch because of habit, but instead reminding viewers of their experience, which is a good move. The plugs also are far more serious and sophisticated in tone compared to recent efforts, which plays very well with the message. One thing I noticed, though, is the set on which the promos were filmed. No, it's not from the new set, but it looks like a bit of a throwback to the digs they had in the early/mid-80's, with lots of beige and a big Circle-7 on the wall. Overall, it's a very nice promo.
  6. Unrelated, but the way ABC 7's been framing things lately makes me think they might have something up their sleeves, too. What a time to be alive. But really, the weather graphics are pretty good, though the 7 day is still pretty much in the safe zone. I know because my old buddies at U-Verse haven't letterboxed the SD feed, though I guess I should be lucky to have WGN, at all.
  7. I wouldn't be shocked if Demetrius keeps with the early show. Either way, it's about damn time. Tom will not regret it, and viewers shouldn't hold it against him.
  8. One of these days they'll figure this out... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wsS5tVm0WFU
  9. I think there's an EXTREME likelihood that somebody would mention if it ended. Also, while asking questions is one thing, repeatedly posing the same question(s) to the same individual(s) every few hours is where some might begin to be annoyed.
  10. Hell hath frozen over.
  11. The Journal graphics need to go. It's not like they're (generally) using something only a year or two old.
  12. Google the initials and enlighten yourself. What could go wrong?
  13. Baaaaaad week for the ol' number 9. They should just lead off and close each newscast with a blanket apology to cover their asses.
  14. Might this be a ticket to a new studio? Eh? Eh? Anybody?
  15. Like, months ago.
  16. #OriginalReporting is being changed to #CloseEnoughIsGoodEnough.
  17. Tribune's in a dispute with AT&T, and WGN will be dropped when their agreement ends at the end of the month. http://wgntv.com/keep-wgn-on-att-uverse/
  18. Good Lord. I've been reading some of the comments posted by the armchair news directors on Feder's posting about the matter, and I don't envy the miserable, bitter lives they must live.
  19. For you. I've heard others say that ABC 7's newscasts are being letterboxed, but AT&T's done none of this.
  20. While it is a picture of the Star of David, it's also the patch that Nazis forced the Jews to wear in the ghettos and concentration camps.
  21. I don't know if they broke in today, but ABC will air a special report at 9 eastern tomorrow morning. Hopefully some changes are in-store.
  22. The only reason I omitted GMA is because they just got a refresh, and while it wasn't necessarily an improvement, they're not likely getting anything new anytime soon. WNN's look is good, just getting long in the tooth, and ATM would be better off using GMA's look (flaws and all), instead of the bastard-child-cut-and-paste-hodge-podge-of-a-collage-mess graphics currently in place.
  23. Yeah, the 'Nightly' influence is there, I can relate the larger text to CBS, the logo reminds me a bit of 'PBS Newshour', and the bug has a bit of a cable vibe to it. But it meshes all those things damn well. It really looks like nothing I've ever seen out of ABC. Hopefully some influence might spill over to the other network properties, especially the overnight shows and the special reports (good God, the special reports). I'm now much more excited to see what they come up with for the election cycle this coming year.
  24. Here's a montage of tonight's broadcast if no one saw.
  25. Hey, I've been wrong before. But, hot damn, the new look is gorgeous. The lower thirds still aren't perfect (too high on the screen) and the new bug is iffy, but the headline cue, open, and use of the theme are infinitely better. I'll post a montage this evening, hopefully in HD.
