1. Damn right.
2. Did you see the after the forecast when Ravi mentioned a tweet on-air? That was from me.
3. How's this for station synergy? Ryan and Val from WCL filmed clues on-location from around the city this week for the upcoming season of Jeopardy!, so two members of the game show came on an all-Jeopardy! episode of WCL, where the hosts played an ABC 7-themed version of the game, and then Jeopardy! posted the whole episode to YouTube. Got that? (The second weather/news update begins at 32:32, for those who've never seen an example of it.) [yt]OjvBFy0OHVA?t=32m32s[/yt]
4. Nononononono... The news at 10 aired like normal, just ending 5 minutes early to accommodate the 10:30 game rejoin. I was quoting the broadcasters. The game was delayed 2 hours and 17 minutes.
5. All kidding aside, I wouldn't want to be in charge of the overnight scheduling department. The game is only in the top of the 8th, and it's close bottom of the 8th, but it's not really close, so it could go extras probably won't go extras. After that, I'd imagine they have to air 'Kimmel' and 'Nightline', so that's taking them through like 2:15. Then, they had planned on airing most of primetime overnight, but with less than 2 hours (by that point) til 'America This Morning', that's going to be essentially impossible, so I have a feeling something's getting dumped to Saturday or Sunday afternoon before all is said and done.
6. "Watch ABC 7 Eyewitness News This Morning, weekdays at 4:30AM." "We might be the lead-in." The Cubs game has resumed.
7. Cubs are in a delay, so 7 is on the air with everyone else, though it should be noted that everybody's been in and out til now, anyway.
8. Jerry just went into a split screen for a minute or two, in addition to Cheryl on WCIU, which I think is enough. CBS2, NBC5 and Skilling are also breaking in. And Fox...well,
9. Yeah, looking for anything in particular, or just some examples of the rebuilt set? I posted several in the new set thread.
10. Ravi Baichwal became a US citizen today. Congrats to him!
11. Well, this is disappointing...or this is one hell of a long-term temp set, but I have a feeling not. Blue lighting has been installed across the desk, the monitors have been upgraded, some other lighting's been changed, but that's about it.
12. They're on something resembling the old set at 4. I have no idea what's going on.
13. Yes. I know for a fact that Phil is not short, and not that much different in height compared to Cheryl or Jerry, but somehow Schwarz standing at the desk isn't as much of an eyesore and major height difference as when Jerry was next to Kathy on Friday night.
14. I wouldn't be surprised if it's directorial and personality preference. The closes I mentioned occurred immediately following sports, with no commercial or final story in-between, so it was likely easier given the camera angle set-up. That reminds me, though, I'm pretty sure they're only working with two cameras. Not that that's an excuse, but it does force different practices, like this weird angle with the super-sexy recycle bin... And here's the full shot. It's not entirely attractive, but it's serviceable...
15. The Sunday 5 o'clock news closed on a full shot, so it is possible, and one of the 6 o'clocks closed with the anchors and sportscaster, but generally, no.
16. Considering Tracy had been on the job since 4:30 (c'mon, we all know it's much earlier than that for the weathercasters), and Jerry has to stick around til 10:35 (though maybe earlier since he's not at the desk to close on the temp set), it makes sense to have Cheryl fill the afternoon slot. She also did the forecast on the noon webcast, which usually has a pre-recorded summary by Tracy.
17. As Paul Meincke turns 65 he'll be shifting to a part-time role at ABC 7 next month, filing reports on his own terms. Sounds like a nice retirement plan, to me. http://www.robertfeder.com/2015/08/17/abc-7s-paul-meincke-downshifting-to-part-time/#more-8540
18. I fall in the middle of this argument. WGN's set is better, overall, but I think she was comparing the home bases. 9's anchor backdrop has been looking progressively worse each month, just like how washed out 7's duratrans were in the year or two before they were replaced. One could also say that, 7's is pretty decent and serviceable knowing that it's only for 3 weeks, while 9's is clearly wearing down, and being used for the foreseeable future. There'd be a certain handicap on the grading scale when comparing the two.
19. So, since my family and I are out on Sunday mornings, I usually record the Sunday morning news to see Phil Schwarz's weather quiz. I've been doing this for over a decade. I know he releases it on social media, but I'm nostalgic for the classic delivery. Anyway, this morning, I'm watching it back when my mom, who, to this point hadn't really noticed the temporary set, openly stated "wow, this is temporary? Looks better than 'GN". Your move, Tribune.
20. I'm guessing that wasn't intentional. It's pretty much the main draw of the full forecast, and even the newscast.
21. Funny thing is, Terrell did it last year, and other reporters before that, and nobody bats an eye.
22. That stupid Tyra Banks style panel show that's replacing Millionaire/daytime Jeopardy! on the east coast.
23. Mark Suppelsa: an anchor of many talents... http://www.ftvlive.com/todays-news/2015/8/14/huh
24. Feder confirmed this morning that Rachael Ray is moving to 1am in the fall, so get your fill of the 10pm rebroadcast while you can.
25. If they were going to be out for the long haul, a bigger/higher desk might be nice.
