  1. Speaking of KCNC... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=9IEzlR-n2FI;t=243 That's a cut of Image IX. It has the NBC chimes in it too. But it's in a promo from circa 1996/97. The Gilmer packages really did tend to bleed into each other. The reel also has some WDIV and KMGH promos. Can't get enough of News Series 2001.
  2. I knew that it had lasted a while, but it's still nice to see it. As to WBRZ, it's a lot like the WFMY "cube" open from the same year.
  3. Finally! And yes, this is 1993... There's a new unknown news theme, too:
  4. That second clip's the new part. Definitely interesting to see!
  5. Arizona stuff you've never seen is always good stuff... This long reel of 1984 election materials contains local excerpts, but only one is interesting. At 1:50 is a KOLD "Channel 13 News" close from the days when they used a KCOP-esque logo and some unknown theme.
  6. A full 27-minute documentary on KTEN? With this news open? Yes! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=WtG205tWcjI;t=730
  7. You're not the only one who thinks that.
  8. WHO in 1992:
  9. I checked and it wasn't up yet.

    In Memoriam

Former Fox executive Karen Adams (most recently of Fox Television Stations, with a long career at WGHP and later WJZY) has died at the age of 62. She died over the weekend from sudden medical complications at her High Point, NC, home.
  11. Scott Chapin's voice! Arizona 5 News!!!
  12. KCNC in 1986 with the more traditional ("First News") cut of Image IV: And WYMT's first ever newscast, aired October 21, 1985. The first story is the new station!
  13. Speaking of Jackson... This is from around May 1984. Get a load of the weather radar in the first segment!
  14. Even Jackson's showing up to the Jacky Party. Yes, this is 1992:
  15. It's been a long time since Jacky had this much good stuff... I mean, I've never seen that KPNX OTS graphic. I wonder if there was a matching open pack used for a hot moment at the end of the 80s? There's also KTAL in 1994... KSLA in 1991... KLTV in 1985... KPLC's 1990 image song... KFDM in 1992 (see: WSB)... this outstanding KLFY newsbreak from 1986...
  16. There are too many clashing elements to this coverage and they end up talking over each other. Furthermore, Micah Materre is continually demonstrating a lack of knowledge of what she's talking about, misidentifying trophies and hats left and right.
  17. It's mind-boggling that, even after years of that policy being reversed and three Stanley Cups, it's somehow salient.
  18. I only think it's appropriate. Without WGN being a superstation, the Cubs wouldn't be as cemented in the national psyche as they are. There's an understanding that there are many fans nationwide who used to watch the Cubs regularly and would want to see the parade. On the other hand, the Blackhawks got little national exposure (and weren't on WGN from 1975 to 2008), weren't good for most of the time prior to 2007-08, and when they did get on WGN, the NHL limited the broadcasts to within the TV market. Kind of a different ball of wax.
  19. Both KDNL and WXLV axed their newscasts in late 2001 in the throes of the post-9/11 recession. They were dragging through low ratings, and KDNL had some sort of transmitter failure in the spring of 2001 that led to audience loss and prompted the news to be axed. WXLV's news ended in January 2002. I don't think that decision would have been taken today, but at the time and with Sinclair being a much smaller broadcaster, things were different. That might not have been a bad idea with St. Louis, as that's a pretty stagnant market without a lot of growth potential.
  20. This predates Symphony by about a year. There's an unknown WTLV package in ASCAP known as "The Works" by Shelly Palmer. This theme certainly merits that title.
  21. One of my favorite news themes. Ever.
  22. Looks more like they had someone go up to Nebraska and take the old KHAS/KNOP logo set and modify or update it.
  23. That type is bad. Not suited for this.
  24. A full WIS newscast from 1981: There's even their afternoon show, "Carolina Today", from 1986:
  25. I'm agreeing too on the WRTV/KCCI connection.
