Is that the equivalent of WPVI dropping MCTYW or worse? I remember the backlash when PVI debuted an updated version of MCTYW in the late 90s and all hell broke loose.

If you can stand to watch, here you go.

I believe FTV or it was mentioned here in a different thread. In the Spokane market, either KREM or KXLY has the only live 11pm news in the market. Can't recall which station.
-
I was in the Spokane market this weekend. I live in the Los Angeles DMA. To say watching Spokane local news was tough is an understatement. KXLY and KREM definitely lead the pack. Even though their new branding is garbage, KHQ did air live weekend news on Saturday and Sunday along with KXLY.

Easier said than done in SoCal. In NorCal, there are two CBS O&O stations: KPIX- SF and KOVR- Sacramento. There isn't a CBS O&O station in San Diego. The CBS affiliate is now owned by Nexstar.

Most shows have been in the newsroom all week. I'm not sure if they're working on studio upgrades or a new set.

Original KTLA Morning News co-anchor Carlos Amezcua shares his thoughts on the departure of his friend Mark Kriski. He also provides input on the state of local TV news in today's world. https://www.linkedin.com/posts/carlos-amezcua-a9a9656_my-analysis-of-how-not-to-handle-the-departure-activity-7435073904815013889-0U-t?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_desktop&rcm=ACoAABWW9Z4B2seLz3kVXk8aCPDB2xcivXViJvA

Laid off reporter Ellina Abovian speaks about her experience of being let go from the station. She usually reported on the Morning News or midday news.

WFAA and WFLA have staircases on their sets.

KABC has a history of having large studios. Anyone remember when they used separate sets for the morning/4p/6p news and another set for the 5p/11p? Their new set could definitely hold two news desks.

@ABC7LA on IG posted this reel. KABCs building is at least 30yrs old. They moved to Glendale after leaving the Prospect lot in Hollywood in 1995/1996. Their newsroom still looks modern and expansive. https://www.instagram.com/reel/DVrm4ihitH5/?igsh=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ==

They took a wide shot at the end of the 3pm. Anchor Marc CR said the new studio is 3x larger than their old studio.
-
KTLA dupe for sure, but set looks great. Much better than WABC.
-
I happened to tune into Eyewitness Newsmakers with Marc Brown on Sunday at 6:30pm. They were on a hard set, not the green screen desk/set that EWN has been using since they decommissioned their old set. The shots were tight, but the set looked to be legit. The vibes in the limited capacity I saw were very LA. Reminds me of KTLAs set.

Frank's statement can be found on his IG (frankbuckleytv). Frank has had to speak on two very emotional instances inside the KTLA building...these layoffs and the death of Sam Rubin. Also, Ellina Abovian made a post on her IG as well. She appeared to be crying right before she made the post. She was solid. She was primarily on the Morning News but also covered afternoons as well. She said she was blindsided, she just turned 40.

I'm sick. I have watched the KTLA Morning News since its inception....July 8, 1991. The only OG standing is Eric Spillman. KTLA has had poor management and leadership in the past, but this takes the cake. Someone said it on the WGN thread....F*CK NEXSTAR!!! In any company, an employee is dispensable. This is flat out disrespectful that KTLA/Nexstar didn't allow Mark to say farewell. I get it--local management may have had their hands tied, but Mark overcame a stroke in the past few years and had other health issues about a decade ago.

Good observation, but the CBS brand has been tainted with new ownership and under Bari Weiss' leadership. The individuals could walk across the proverbial street today and get a new job. I see a few going to 'MAQ or FOX.

If they move forward with it, sounds like shades of FOX After Breakfast.

Hoping for the best possible outcome for the Guthrie family. Regardless, I don't think Savannah will return. My assumption is that Hoda will continue in order to provide consistency and stability as the network focuses on identifying a successor to Savannah. Hoda will remain for six months until said successor is named.

Not at all. No opens for the 4p, 5p, 6p, and 7p news. I was asleep by the 11p. Graphics were minimal and just like the video above they took this weird three shot during all afternoon shows when the reporter came to the desk to front their story/package. Credit to the KNBC team. Colleen and Kathy are market veterans and to the normal viewer, they made it seem as if everything was smooth sailing behind the scenes.
-
KNBC is in the newsroom this afternoon/evening. If they brodacast from the newsroom they usually keep a tight single shot or double shot. I have never seen them take the three shot when Eric Leonard comes on. You get a wider view of the newsroom. Not sure if there were technical issues in the studio or if it's short term for the Olympics/Super Bowl. It looks like they may have pulled the old anchor desk out of storage.
-
Here is the KGO open. A little bit of a sloppy launch, IMO...since the ABC stations group is going for consistency. I live in the LA DMA. On KABC this morning, I saw the WABC mic flag (new to KABC), the outgoing KABC mic flag and here on KGO you see their version of the ABC7 mic flag. If they are going for consistency, details matter.

While I wouldn't wear a suit with tennis shoes myself, I don't find an issue with Dale wearing them in the open. I think it is the station's attempt to make him more relatable. Even though he is a news anchor, he wants to be in with the trends, etc. If you pause the open, you will see in Margot's shots that she is wearing a strapless shirt while surrounded by her family. Again, not an issue. I like that the ABC stations group uses these opens to make their people apppear to be more human and not your average robotic news anchor.

Great drone view of the new NBC5/Telemundo Chicago studios and newsroom.
