Re: I wonder if WCBS will add a 4pm too? I present to you, News 2 at 4. I doubt they will do a re-boot.
-
Huge KTLA stan here, but that will be a tough timeslot to differentiate themselves in. I know its not about ratings anymore, but dollars. My assumption is that recently acquired Sandra Mitchell will have a presence. You have Pat Harvey on 2, Chuck and Colleen on 4, Marc Brown on 7, hell even Christine Devine on 11 all at 5pm. Going to be tough to get any recongition without a strong LA name. Just my 2 cents.

Something similar happened to another newsie back in December... https://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2020/12/10/news-director-has-all-of-his-belongings-stolen

Also- just noticed former NBC Bay Area weekend co-anchor Anoushah Rasta is now reporting for NBCLA. Nice pickup for KNBC and Anousha gets to stay in CA and the NBCUniversal family. Looks like she will be reporting for the 7pm. Main nightside (11pm) reporter Hetty Chang posted on Twitter that she is back on nightside after helping to launch the new 7pm. Hetty was the A block live shot reporter for the first few weeks of KNBCs 7pm launch.

Knew his days were numbered when Melissa Magee joined. No need for 2 meterologists during the afternoon/evening newscasts in Los Angeles.
-
She did. She was live with the team at Knott's Berry Farm.

Some good promos on the KTLA Creative Services Twitter account. Really captures how KTLA is focused on the community and how strong their various news teams are.
-
Shades of the necn look, which is quite impressive in and of itself.

KTLA has a track record of bringing on former KCBS/KCAL refugees. Vera Jimenez (PM Wx), Glen Walker (Midday Anchor), Henry DiCarlo (Early AM Wx), Kaj Goldberg (weekend Wx), Rick Chambers (weekend PM anchor) have all been brought over. All under former GM Don Corsini who worked at KCBS/KCAL as well. These former 2/9ers have done really well with KTLAs personality driven formula. I envision Sandra having a bigger role at KTLA down the road.

Rita solo anchored the 4am hour and contributed to the show usually at the newsroom's Live Desk the rest of the way until 10am. Tony and Araksya co-anchor from 5-7, Michaela anchors the show from 7-10 with contributions from both Tony and Araksya from various parts of the studio. Seems weird to have an anchor leave a show that is going thru a re-branding during May Sweeps.

Indeed, hell of a find! I'd assume since the World Series was on the schedule that evening, a lot of the main anchor teams were off that night. Ace reporter Mark Coogan broke in during Roseanne at the old Eyewitness Newsroom on Prospect Ave. Then he jumped into the studio with a young Laura Diaz (now at KTTV). It appears that Paul Moyer and Ann Martin may have been off, they both mentioned that they were in the car to get to the station. You see the 2 shot with Paul and Ann, Paul was speaking without his mic and put it on. They were the 5pm/11pm anchors at that time. Later on you see Harold Greene and Tawny Little in the studio. Great find and a great video to see Tawny!! I believe KABC still had an hour long 6pm at that time. I believe Tawny may have anchored the 6:30 (or Laura, can't recall). Should have been around the time Jerry Dunphy left to start up KCAL with Pat Harvey. Huge history lesson in LA TV news here. I believe Bill Press was the political commentator for KABC at the time. He later went on in a similar role at KCOPs Real News and was a radio host on KABC-AM.

If the WCBS team needs to leave the CBS HQ for cleaning, etc, once again, what is their plan? Seems like they were caught without a plan B when KCBS had to produce and anchor the news for a few days this spring. Could the WCBS team temporarily move to the CBS Election HQ studio at Times Square? Is that studio still even operating?
-
So she is on GDNY AND the 6pm? (6pm temporarily). I know there she has a break between shows where she leaves the building, but I'd say she is being groomed for the 6.

Here's an article I found on the LA Times site discussing Michaela's arrival to KTTV, history at KTLA and challenges GDLA has had since 2017. https://www.latimes.com/entertainment-arts/tv/story/2020-10-19/good-day-la-fox-11-michaela-pereira-ktla-morning-news Also, if you look at Rita Garcia or Marla Tellez's IG Stories, they show the top story after the open on the new GDLA...which, of course, was the Dodgers advancing to the World Series! Go Blue! IG: @theritagarcia and @marlatellez

This! The signature at the very beginning does sound similar to the old production theme music they had used for the last 20yrs, though.

Seems like the 7-10am hours of GDLA are definitely built around Michaela. Reminds me of the old GDNY with Jim Ryan. Jim would steer the ship while tossing to his counterparts in the studio/field and conducting in studio interviews. I only watched the first block this morning. Michaela obviously knows the market, after her years at KTLA. Seemed like a breath of fresh air since the show didn't really have an identity after the sudden firing of Steve Edwards. Curious to see how the new format evolves. I buried the lead here, though! They finally got new music!!!

Not sure if other LA stations were clamoring, but it is no secret that KTTV has languished in the mornings for years. To take a popular talent from their direct competition (KTLA) and bring them on to their morning show speaks to them trying to change their fortunes in the ratings department. Don't forget KTTV recently acquired Stu Mundel from KCBS/KCAL. Stu was their popular nightside chopper reporter known for his animated coverage of police pursuits. KTTV is making moves to be competitive. Not sure if KTLA wanted Michaela back. The morning A team they have now with Frank, Jessica, Mark and Sam works well for them. When Michaela left KTLA, I was one of the doubters on Jessica being able to fit the news anchor role well as she was previously the PM weather caster with the late Hal Fishman and then moved on to AM entertainment/features reporter. She has definitely earned my respect. She does a good job in the anchor seat.

KTTV is out for blood with the Michaela hire. That is a huge get! I'm a KTLA guy, but I give a tip of the hat to KTTV. KTLA better tighten things up, they have been #1 for years, but I feel sometimes their talent and formula is mailing it in I guess some could argue that "if it aint broke don't fix it..." Not a big fan of the new anchor lineup though. It seems like it is a temporary situation until someone's contract runs out. They should to the traditional 4-6 or 4-7am parings and the 7am-10am pairings. KTLA and WGN have always affectionately referred to those teams as the A team and the B team. I REALLY hope they lose that lame and outdated GDLA theme music at some point. The new FOX O&O theme is strong enough to be used on all KTTV dayparts.

Sister station KTLA runs the Morning News block from 4a-11am. Then another news block from 11am-12pm under the Morning News banner with the afternoon anchors, plus news at 1pm and 3pm. Its been successful for them, but yes, it is overkill.
-
Congrats to Pam on the promotion! I don't envision any changes to ABC7s news product. Their product is very formulaic. They stick to what has worked and they rarely deviate from it.
-
Myrka Dellanos Loynáz, for the old school Primer Impacto fans out there! You know...the ones that couldn't change the change the channel until Walter Mercado came on and told everyone their horoscope!

Back in the day when I was a young news junkie, I used to write (yes, this was before email) to talent at stations in my local market (Los Angeles). They were all very gracious and would send autographed head shots and scripts from previous newscasts (I liked to see what exactly their scripts looked like). I wrote to Laura Diaz when she was at KABC if it would be possible to get a Circle 7 pin. She basically insinuated it would take an act of God LOL. Also, in one of the recent KABC Eyewitness News anniversary videos on YouTube, I believe it was Ellen Leyva who said that the Circle 7 pins are under management's lock and key.

Just my 2 cents here.... -I would assume Danny would take over for Dallas when his retirement comes. Danny was the main weathercaster at KCOP and he also spent a little time at KNBC. Danny's been most successful at KABC. I'd like to see Leslie Lopez get it, IMO. Local girl (Chino) who is a true weather nerd. I think Brianna is being groomed for bigger things. She does morning traffic and WX for the 11am show. -Re: Jovana anchoring at 4pm. Doesn't necessarily make it a long day. My guess is that she and Phillip get in around 9am/9:30, if they are out the door by 6pm, that is a decent work day. -Lets not forget that Coleen (one "L") Sullivan anchors the 7pm news on KDOC with David Ono as well. She might be a placeholder as well for when Michelle or Ellen decide to hang it up. Fun fact- along with Danny Romero, Ellen Leyva spent time at KCOP as well.

My guess is that Rudabeh (come back to LA) is going to Nexstar's News Nation. There was another article in FTVLive last week that mentioned News Nation would possibly have a Miami bureau. That might be where she ends up. I was never a fan of Rudabeh's anchoring here in LA on KABC weekend mornings., but she did great as a GA reporter the other three days a week.
