  1. This one is really sad. He was a legendary news figure in this great city.
  2. Who would you say is better in the station group? None of the station’s are bad but KABC’s just blows them all out of the water. KTLA is close but I don’t think there’s another local news set in the country that looks this incredible.
  3. It’s frustrating that ratings data is no longer shared as often as it used to be but I feel like if any other station had knocked WABC from its perch, that station would be vocal about it. That we haven’t probably indicates it’s business as usual.
  4. I actually don’t think it’s a replica of WABC other than the strong blue theme. KABC’s is significantly more dynamic than WABC’s, both great in their own rights but KABC’s is truly remarkable. Very similar to KTLA’s set which is also top notch. Their ability to consistently exceed expectations on this stuff is insane. *please let KTRK get something this grand*
  5. To no one’s surprise, this looks amazing. KABC does it again.
  6. I’m certain most people know her as Oprah’s best friend more than the morning show she’s on. If as many people knew or cared about her as she seems to think then it would reflect in the show’s viewership. And it has not. I don’t have any particularly strong issue with her other than that she’s always seemed pompous and full of herself. Her statement on her contract is embarrassingly petulant for a 70 year old woman, especially when she seemed incredibly insecure about her own standing just a few months ago.
  7. This woman is so damn insufferable. The speculation “of her demise” was coming from the CBS Broadcasting Center which she seemed to understand fairly well when she was arguing with paparazzi outside the building a few months ago. Her statement is true to form with her pathetic character.
  8. Rachel Maddow anchored the 1pm edition of MS NOW Reports. They made a good decision with bulking up their live news coverage on the weekends last year. It’s shining on a day like today.
  9. Wow. I’m pretty sure John Muller was just on air yesterday or Sunday doing snow coverage. I’m going to just guess that Houston’s KIAH had their entire news department decimated?
  10. This is crazy. Wow. No send off for Kriski after decades? KTLA’s cuts make slightly more sense than WGN’s considering KTLA has something like 20 hours of news everyday. Easy to see who/why they cut where they did. Still it’s brutal.
  11. Woah. They fired their evening anchor? That’s significant.
  12. Sade and Mike anchored a special Sunday 7pm hour of EWN, then anchored the 11pm hour with Lee Goldberg on weather. 4am start for Lee Goldberg, Brittany Bell and Dani Beckstrom. Pretty cool to see Lee with Shirleen, Pedro and Heather. Sade and Mike back for a special 2pm EWN. Channel 7’s coverage has been incredible.
  13. I thought it was an odd choice to go to the national shows at 7am and cut out randomly in the second hour.
  14. It’s obvious why they opted to keep the team in NYC given the horrific news with Savannah’s mother but considering we never saw an announcement about the show’s broadcasting plans even before this, I wonder if Today was planning a more subdued Olympics coverage plan this year. Any frequent viewers know whether the last few games have had the entire team travel or not?
  15. Definitely seems like technical difficulties. Do they normal start their 4pm newscast so abruptly?
  16. I feel like they’d be foolish to “force” any changes on WPVI, that station is an unrivaled powerhouse. Don’t they consistently pull in more viewership than the other stations combined? Don’t shoot me for this but I actually like the WABC-ification of KABC and KGO. The music fits KABC way better than I would’ve expected. ABC should mandate KTRK and WTVD to use the theme as well. The mandated graphics has been a net positive especially for WABC.
  17. Understandably so, Savannah Guthrie has dropped out of NBC’s Olympic coverage during the bizarre disappearance of her mother. https://awfulannouncing.com/nbc/savannah-guthrie-drops-olympics-coverage-mom-reported-missing.html?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter#
  18. When did WABC’s theme get renamed to Dispatch?
  19. Apparently Savanah will be co-hosting the opening ceremony and Craig will be co-anchoring the nightly Olympic game wrap up with Maria Taylor. So they’ll both be there for a portion of the games at least. I haven’t seen the full coverage plans for NBC News which they usually share.
  20. I could appreciate this if she herself wasn’t a journalist. I think she probably understands that too and her comments was more in jest than actual expectations or anger that it would leak.
  21. Their sets have flat out sucked for so long but this one is truly worthy of the #1 station in the US. The interactive weather segments they do on that screen are just fantastic. Home base, the weather center, the soft set, the newsroom - all of it finally feels worthy for WABC. Makes me excited for what we’re about to see from KABC, who has always had the superior product of the two!
  22. Interesting dynamics for ABC this afternoon after the shooting in Minneapolis and the NBA’s postponement of the Warriors-Timberwolves game. They’ve been in an ABC News Special Presentation anchored by Whit Johnson since 6:30pm ET and seems to be running until Inside the NBA begins at 8pm ET.
  23. Glad I’m not the only one feeling a bit sad about this. I took the long walk home today from work to go by there and it’s crazy to see it gone! Walking by the old GMA studios in TS is also stark. One of my favorite photos from outside of Peter Jennings Way.
  24. I assumed they were launching some kind of streaming service.
  25. Yeah it’s clear that Toni herself isn’t interested in the role. She’s the station’s New Jersey reporter and has been the primary fill-in for weekend mornings for 10-15 years now. Michelle on the other hand responded to fan comments online that she wanted the weekday morning spot after filling in for an extended period when Ken Rosario was fired.
