  1. I'd only support a 5th hour if it was hard storytelling. Aka, the first half hour of the Today show.
  2. Tegna is actually beginning to roll out a slightly updated version of the 2018 look. Stations have been getting a style-guide on how to use the update. Just a few different elements here and there.
  3. Seems kind of messed up that Scripps has to pay for Cordillera's failings, but I guess they assume Scripps surely would have been aware of the state of the towers of the stations they were buying? And that two towers were bought without the FCC ever knowing? That or since there isn't a Cordillera to fine anymore...
  4. I can see the headlines now..."Fox News TRAITOR Shepard Smith joins LIBERAL MSNBC in effort to take down President Trump!" Or "Not-So-Secret Fox News Democrat Shep Smith is Welcomed at MSNBC with Open Arms"
  5. Tegna appears to be working on a new website design. WVEC is one of the test stations. https://www.13newsnow.com https://www.13newsnow.com/article/about-us/13newsnow-new-website-design/291-012a334f-0db6-4721-9511-7b8952192584 Though the URLs could certainly still use work.
  6. June Bacon-Bercey, the first female TV meteorologist (and of color) in the U.S. died. It seems she died in July last year, but the news was only just now made public. She was 90. https://www.accuweather.com/en/weather-news/june-bacon-bercey-americas-1st-female-tv-meteorologist-dies-at-90/655500
  7. Time to oil up the Speculatron!
  8. Ah, I see it's KAKE's turn to take care of KSAS. Seems like those Wichita stations rotate responsibility every what, five years?
  9. Overnight is where DBL belongs. It cannot be doing well.
  10. Depending on the market it might be. As already said, TV pays *poorly* when starting out, especially in small markets. A LOT of stations still give out salaries as low as 22-23k. They're getting paid less than some fast food workers.
  11. If he's that dedicated and serious toward the program then he might be gunning for a weekday spot eventually. Or he's decided to own the weekends; that's what I'd do.
  12. Yesterday was Christa Dubill's last day at KSHB after over a dozen years. Unknown when a replacement will be named.
  13. She was one of the longer-tenured ones there. It's unfortunate, but I can't help but wonder if she felt pressured to go. She got a somewhat bad look after the Lisa Benson debacle.
  14. I simply cannot imagine MCTYW surviving, not with out stringent Tegna is on it's look.
  15. It's a very fresh look. Parts of it give off a CNN vibe, but maybe that's because of the chrome. Large displays, sharp corners, brightly lit (although with so much blue it feels cold) with occasional round elements to change it up. It has European elements that have been given an American flare. As for the graphics. They're certainly improved. It's a flashy flat look that doesn't go overboard. It's energetic.
  16. Am I the only one who missed Tegna buying WATN from Nexstar?
  17. Who decorated that WKYC cake? A 3 year old?
  18. WAVE is what I'd envision a Tegna V3 or Scripps V3 update would have looked like. The L3s are very reminiscent of Tegna.
  19. "Right here tonight when we come back..."
  20. As mentioned elsewhere, there are some stations that still have the look of their previous ownership and have been owned by a new company for over 1 or 2 years. I don't know what KFMB's situation was, but it's possible they already had infrastructure in place to handle the Tegna look. If WTHR and WBNS don't, that will take time. As also mentioned, changing the artistic on air look isn't always the highest priority when a new owner takes over. There's an even smaller chance that 'THR and 'BNS somehow convinced Tegna to keep their look.
  21. Which is almost surprising to me. If Fox was going to completely overhaul their look, this would be the logo to do it.
  22. I've watched a little bit of it. It's higher energy, tries to feature 3 live reporters (studio or field), a review of the day's top stories (called "The Rewind"), and live teases in the A block of what's coming up "In the Next 5 Minutes" before getting back to the news. Set is lit darker and they make better use of the V1 set-in-a-box 5x1 monitor array. Sounds like some different cuts of C-Clarity too. Which begs to the question to me, has C-Clairty secretly been updated, or am I just hearing cuts that weren't being used before?
  23. WHAS has relaunched their 11pm as "NightTeam." It's a return to the name - it was popular in the 80s and 90s. NightTeam replaces 11 at 11.
  24. Do they all use the WHAS Wake Up graphics and music?
  25. Looks like they're taking a page from WHAS whose morning show is also called "Wake Up." Though I'm perplexed by the "Central." Central because they're in central Arkansas? Central portion of the country (except not really)? I'll be curious to see if they use the WHAS Wake Up graphics (they had a special package made just for the morning show). Unfortunately, there isn't anything on youtube. That's unfortunate because WHAS put together an incredibly unique promo for the show that THV tried to mimic and did so VERY poorly.
