This has some vibes of the Gannett 2008 look

KWGN, to it's credit, does run an independent morning show that broadcasts to the whole state. It's not a retran of KDVR's morning show whatsoever, though they do share talent. Also the only 7 pm broadcast in the state.
-
I'd hardly say KDVR/KWGN has been "torched" when some of their shows pull in more impressions on A25-54 than KCNC and KMGH do total. There's a long over-held notion (in my opinion before people get salty) that Denver is KUSA followed by everyone else, when it's really KUSA and KDVR followed by everyone else.

He's basically reading a press release. Only in a market like Scottsbluff would this ever be news. It should also be alarming because Gray is effectively test running getting rid of all production people by having anchors checks notes report, read edit scripts, update web stuff, and now personally directing and operating cameras. No one cares if Scottsbluff looks a hot mess. I've done that full one-man-band stuff. While it's possible, it's also distracting because you're discussing what's happening now while also needing to actively look at controls and think what's ahead. Plus, if something goes wrong during/before production, it's a frantic dash to find someone who can help and that stress is unnecessary.

Put another way, they've been waiting 3 or 4 years longer than expected to get their golden parachutes to retirement and never having to do something ever again while the rest of the world burns.

Sinclair Broadcast Group - General Discussion
MidwestTV replied to Smitha A's topic in Corporate Chat
As is often the case, I wouldn't be surprised if this was Sinclair being in a hurry and not waiting until the Ts and Is had been crossed and dotted. There are examples of this, particularly with streaming: a station launches their platform but only some TVs can actually download it. (Seems to me that stations always launch on Samsung TV months later). -
Looks like something Tegna based their entire set design on except, you know, well done.
-
WLKY probably has the most incompatible logo for the diagrid look. You've shoved an oval into a trapezoid with an absurd amount of dead space. I'm a bit surprised they haven't refreshed it yet.
-
Kansas City at 35 is the lowest I can recall for them in a while. Louisville and Albuquerque swapped places.
-
Too heavy on the yellow. The large screen is attempting to give an illusion of depth, but it's more uncanny instead. The floors don't match, and why would there be such a large step up?
-
I'm more curious about what this "beyond expectations" audience feedback is. Music is way too weak.
-
Icons are way too big. Lots of wasted negative space underneath the rain percentage. That needs to be shrunk, icons moved up, and also shrunk.

Perry Sook attached a letter to employees when the press release was sent internally too. He said they had "constructive" discussions with ABC/Disney. He also said Nexstar "regrets" the earful stations had to endure (especially ABC affiliates) over some stations receiving threats and had hostile conversations with the public. It is no coincidence that both companies decided, within a couple hours of each other, to bring Kimmel back. Sinclair even had the audacity to say ABC didn't accept their so-called "proposal" (read: demands) to "strengthen accountability, viewer feedback, and community dialogue, including a network-wide independent ombudsman.” I wouldn't be surprise if Iger told them to pound sand and how dare they make demands on how a totally different company operates. I can absolutely believe that either: A) ABC threatened to strip affiliations and clearly wasn't bluffing B) ABC threatened to not give them SEC football (Georgia-Alabama is tomorrow, and both have a huge southern presence), Monday Night Football, or ABC News programming removing any reason at all to watch them or C) both At the end of an AP story: That would have been a disastrous headache for everyone and even NexClair realized they couldn't handle it.
-
Agreed that the voice overs are lackluster for a lot of them, and the music bed (like what KMBC used) doesn't help.
-
Only thing new here is this tidbit: "We are engaged in productive discussions with executives at The Walt Disney Company, with a focus on ensuring the program reflects and respects the diverse interests of the communities we serve." Whatever that means. I'm willing to bet they want Kimmel to have more conservatives on.
-
I'm extremely curious to see what the overnight ratings were for his return
-
Again, WHAT is it exactly that Nexstar wants? What assurances? That Kimmel won't ever make a joke about a conservative ever again? I'm sure the affiliates are pissed too that they're being forced to stick around for an extra half-hour of news. I wouldn't be surprised if Nexstar is trying to see if news rates better in place of Kimmel and wants more time to find out.
-
ABC: Ok ok! We'll bring back Kimmel, just please stop unsubscribing from Disney+. By the way, we're raising our prices on Disney+.
-
I can't help but wonder if Sinclair and Nexstar feel like they may have been dumb to pick such a public fight and are digging in for the sake of optics. Didn't Sinclair already pull back on mandating a Kirk memorial special on air? I also refuse to believe that no GM from any station in either company hasn't told their superiors about the public backlash too. Stations for sure have been getting a lot of emails from viewers saying they're boycotting them because of what the parent company did, ABC affiliate or not (my guess is it's worse for Fox affiliates). Is it having a quantifiable effect on viewership? Not sure, but it seems impossible something like that would happen and the company not know.
-
That would require ABC to have a spine, which they very obviously don't.
-
It's absurd that Sinclair as a company is so upset about this. To be certain, the "outrage" is from the Sinclair ownership specifically. It's wild that THEY are acting so offended as if Kimmel was talking about THEM being the assassin. It's also grandstanding on behalf of your stations that may very well have an audience that likes Kimmel. Huh? Stations get dozens of calls and emails daily from people that are mad about something. If we "weren't allowed" to contact them they wouldn't have their addresses, phone numbers, emails and socials for every public talent, plastered all over their websites.

"New set" did some heavy lifting lol. The desk is certainly an improvement. Video wall seems a little out of place now since it's clearly placed more forward than the actual set walls. Weather center seems underlit now.
-
The CBS bug is one of the better ones in recent years. I still think it's too big, but it's simple yet clean. The new Fox look though...
-
It could be an artifact of the camera being zoomed all the way out. I've noticed some stations who do it end up having a fish eye and the whole studio appears to bend. The lighting here is pretty poor as well, especially the top. While that's not something that's seen often, if you are going to pull the camera shot super wide then the top of the set needs to be lit properly.

I mean, at least they found one of the few local broadcast owners left? I'm curious what resources Sun Broadcasting has, though.
