And a way to drive viewership? Make a half-hour or hour long show to syndicate on their stations. It could follow the "PM/Evening Magazine" model. Have a bank of stories that are chosen and promoted, and that drive viewership to the main channel. It could be localized in the larger markets, especially if it's a story that originated locally or in the region. And if all else fails, see if CNN still has the "jukebox" they used for Headline News in the 90s. Call me old fashioned, sometimes I just want to know what's going on at a random time.... And when HLN jumped the shark, the last days of the All News Channel was a good watch. They essentially did what Nexstar should have been doing all along. Using THEIR stations to present content to a national audience. I think where they're pulling stories from is important too. They're right about writing a local story in Timbuktu so that it's interesting to people living in Timbukthree, but what market is Timbuktu? If you're trying to take a small-market package and make it national worthy, you're going to run into a quality issue with said story likely coming from a young, inexperienced journalist who isn't yet capable of writing to that level or thinking that large.

I wonder how much they cut high-level executive salaries to save some cash too. Hahahahaha no they probably didn't. Wouldn't be surprised if after this some of the execs got a bonus. -
Tagging off of this regarding GMA , but I thought GMA's super this morning of "Tiger Breaks His Silence" was a bit off key given how horrendously his legs were crushed. Any other cliche newsspeak lower would have been better.

I'd be fascinated to learn the whole story behind this. The description provided a little backstory.

Please don't give me this nightmare. Efficiency. It's far easier to man severe weather coverage from the station. Plus, if the power goes down at meteorologist's home, well.... Locals will still know the region much better. I also feel they would better keep the audience attention too.

It is. Can confirm WAVE has ditched their custom look of a year after the upgrade. Apparently there's still some customization with it (mainly weather it looks like), otherwise it's the standard Gray look. Don't think they're too happy about it.

Did WNT just update their open? looks different, but I haven't seen their open in quite a while.
-
That new WAVE look gives me serious WPTV 2008-9 vibes (still my favorite open of all time).

Home base is lit weird. The logo up top is poorly lit and that whole structural element almost seems CGI, probably because it's only lit from the bottm. The camera is crooked, too. Opening shot should have either been tighter from the start or wide then push in. Just my two cents, I'm not the director.

It means that market is likely about to die and probably not a fun palce to work. Another triopoly + 1 market. See: Topeka with Nexstar's KSNT/KTKA/KTMJ and Gray's WIBW.

In another video message to employees, CEO David Lougee announced that work-from-home guidelines will remain in place until at least January 4, 2021. This means that employees who can work remotely and don't absolutely have to be in the building (i.e, sales, promotions, etc) will do so until next year. However, on-air talent may be allowed back in the building on a market-by-market basis depending on what the COVID numbers are in their respective locations. Some other notes include: -85% of employees completed the company survey -everyone will get a $100 UberEats gift card -non-TV station buildings will be modified with COVID in mind and then they'll be required to come back to work in January -people who want to keep the option to work form home after the January 4th date need to talk to their immediate leaders- 3735 replies

Really up to the individual stations if they want to bother downloading them. Not a hard-fast requirement. Mainly the tropical icons were updated along with a few other updates and a couple new ones.- 3735 replies

I mean...that isn't exactly a new idea. Gannett used to have the rundown plastered on the side standard in the early HD days. WHAS does a quick "in the next 5 minutes" blurb during their 11pm as well.- 3735 replies

Some people swear by Mark, but I swear he's getting more...eccentric...as he ages. Maybe he's better to work with, but on air it seems like you'd need a lot of patience.

Surprised this hasn't been mentioned yet or that there hasn't been a thread specifically about riots and the press. Lots of violence in Louisville last night. The most extreme was a police officer firing pepper balls at a WAVE crew on live television. WAVE issued a statement. WAVE also had a car spray painted. Speaking of cars, WLKY had one of their scompletely destroyed. WLKY also took damage from protestors/rioters themselves. WHAS took direct damage to their building. Windows to their front entrance were shattered, some parts spray painted, and tear gas even got into the building. In-building personnel were evacuated their stations to take shelter. Crews quickly worked to secure the building. Longtime anchor Doug Proffitt had a brief commentary on the situation at the end of their special report around 1:30 a.m. EDT. I am not aware of any damage of violence being inflicted toward WDRB or Spectrum Kentucky.

That mint color only has me thinking of mint ice cream. A subtle feature I noticed that was surely was intentional is there are 5 black lines that comprise the '1' and '0' adding up to 10.- 3735 replies

The "select people" is prioritizing who will be let back in the building first. Departments such as sales wouldn't be as important as allowing anchors or meteorologists or technical staff back in building first. The "never going to let some people back in" applies more to possibly allowing (emphasizing that) some people at a later date to permanently work from home. Should this happen would these people be forced to permanently stay home and work? Well, I can't see how that could be possible as for some having a physical office space is much more practical.- 3735 replies
