  1. In case you haven't actually seen Megyn's piece:

I thought it was perfectly fine, up until about 2:10 when she brings up Vietnam. Before 2:10, it's a perfectly acceptable monologue in my opinion given what she presents. Afterward, the Vietnam tit-for-tat is unnecessary.

  2. I was speaking with my mother about the article and she told me “if NBC was so sure about Megyn they would have given her the co anchor position.” Which is interesting - they’re paying her all this money and not using her fully.

I understand the idea, but what makes you think she would want to be co-anchor of Today even if it was offered to her? She was previously a solo primetime host. She was wooed to NBC by the prospect of again hosting her own show, and also by the opportunity to work more normal hours. Being co-host of Today meets neither of those criteria.

  3. Gio Benitez is celebrating his five-year anniversary with ABC News. In my mind, his hire marked the beginning of the new guard at ABC -- the hiring of young, attractive correspondents who would eventually take the place of many of ABC's long-tenured correspondents who were in their 40s-50s.

  4. O’Donnell then asked Curry about Matt Lauer. “I can tell you that I am not surprised by the allegations,” she responded after some hesitation.

“Why aren’t you?” King followed up.

“Well, I would be surprised if something like that did not occur…there was verbal harassment there,” continued Curry.

  5. I was actually about to ask how the anchors are each being utilized these days, as I haven't watched a full show recently. I do find it interesting that on GMA's social media pages and on goodmorningamerica.com, the photo they highlight shows only Robin, George, and Michael. That elevates Michael's importance while minimizing Lara's and Amy's. (Once upon a time, those images showed the full cast of Robin, George, Amy, Ginger, Michael, and Jesse.)

I'd prefer to see Robin, George, and Amy in the first hour, with Michael and Lara appearing in the second.

  6. Ritter has not anchored on Xmas since his youngest daughter was born five or six years ago. Early in his career he often missed holidays and celebrations with his kids because of work. He says he won't make that mistake with his youngest. The older kids are now grown.

I think he's anchored on Christmas more recently than 5 years ago. Besides, I'm not sure why "missing" Christmas with his family would matter since he doesn't celebrate Christmas.

  7. I'm perhaps being overly critical, but I found WABC's coverage of the Port Authority bombing this morning to be underwhelming. Shirleen was anchoring solo for the majority. Not ideal for a major breaking news event. Nobody else to bounce off of or to jump in with new information.

At one point she read out the bomber's exact home address, which seemed inadvisable at best.

I happened to flip on Fox 5's coverage as well and thought Rosanna and Lori did a solid job.

  9. Has anyone else noticed that they label everything as "Breaking News"? It just occurred to me tonight, and now I can't stop noticing it. Every. Single. Story. "BREAKING NEWS." Why? An update from a story days ago isn't breaking news, it's an update.

CNN does the same. Or, at least, they did for a while. Not sure if it happens there as often, still.

Doonesbury mocked them back in 2015 for their over use of participles.

This is a huge pet peeve of mine. The same is true on GMA, too.

  10. New roles at ABC News for Tom Llamas, Cecelia Vega & Jonathan Karl:

    http://www.adweek.com/tvnewser/jon-karl-cecilia-vega-and-tom-llamas-earn-new-roles-at-abc-news/319026

    - Tom Llamas to anchor both weekend editions of WNT; chief national correspondent

    - Cecelia Vega moving to DC where she will cover the white house full time and be the senior white house correspondent

    - Jonathan Karl named chief white house correspondent and chief Washington correspondent.

Byron Pitts previously held the title of Chief National Correspondent. Is he still with ABC?

  11. A more likely scenario is that research shows the strong NBC owned stations' investigative campaign is resonating with viewers. This is way of trying to get back the consumer investigative foothold they once had.

Plausible. But NBC's I-Team has five reporters. EWN has two if you count Nina. If WABC really wanted to double down on investigative reporting, I suspect they would do more than make a name change. We'll see if they actually follow through on the Investigative Reporter job posting and hire someone else.
