I'm a bit surprised he didn't want to go to 60 minutes. Unless that wasn't an option for him.

There’s no way he would have been given that option.

Glor wasn't given a chance to prove himself during his very short time as anchor of CBS Evening News.  In a way, he pretty much got a raw deal in the midst of CBS' on-air personnel changes.  Unless he's got a couple more years left on his current contract, and isn't where he can leave CBS to find work at a competing network.

Unfortunately in television you don’t get time to “prove yourself.”  It’s very easy to lose viewers, and very hard to win them back.

Zirinsky probably felt he didn’t belong at EN in the first place.

Is this supposed to be a complete relaunch of the show? The anchors keep referring to it as the launch of CTM and Gayle has said many times welcome to our new show - CTM. That’s really not typical for an anchor change.

Yes, it's definitely more than just an anchor change.  They are considering it a relaunch of the show.

Also noticed that the three anchors, who used to sit triangularly across from each other, are now all sitting together in front of a monitor.  Much closer to GMA/Today.

Maybe building a bench. Bill and Diana are both close to the point of scaling back and/or retiring.

My thought as well.  Would not be surprising if Bill, who is almost 70, wants to give up either the 6 or the 11 in the near future.

Geez, could the interactions between King and O'Donnell on-air get more awkward than it already has been? I've personally felt like there has been subtle clashes happening for some time now between them two and between O'Donnell and Dickerson. With this now out, I'm thinking this could be popcorn viewing and will be entertaining to see what other subtle on-air jabs they will have for each other before the host changes happen, I'm thinking they'll have to act a little more fake between each other til then, it's going to be Ripa and Strahan 2016 all over again.

Are there specific instances (or, better yet, clips) in which this has happened, or are you making more of a general observation?

I imagine it’s because you have a captive audience - they have to see the ad for local weather. If it plays when local forecast is over people may not pay as much attention.

Or change the channel, or turn off the TV.  They can probably charge more for that ad spot.

Why would he want to go to CBS? The Evening News is replacing Glor in rapid succession who replaced Scott Pelley in similar fashion.

No amount of talent swaps can really change the course for this show or it’s competitors. People simply don’t watch it like they did before.

30 minutes of work instead of 2 hours.  Hard news instead of The Bachelor recaps and viral videos.  Getting to waking up in the morning at 8:00 a.m. instead of 3:00 a.m.  Reporting for 60 Minutes, which is the highest profile program in TV news and something he'd be able to do into his 70s.

Obviously he chose to stay at ABC and will probably make a lot more money than he would have at CBS.  But it isn't as if there were no reason for him to consider CBS's offer.  In fact, according to the NY Post's reporting, he did indeed consider the offer.

According to Page Six, George Stephanopolous is staying with GMA and ABC after signing a new deal for 4 years worth $18 million. This comes after attempts from CBS to snag George for the CBSEN.

That would've been a sweet gig for him -- CBS EN anchor and 60 Minutes correspondent.  Much more in line with his journalistic chops.  But, hey, I guess he likes ABC (and what they're paying).

What could CNN possibly have proposed?  A one-hour primetime show and Blitzer's heir apparent?  Unless, maybe, the CNN proposal was a joint offer with CBS, in the way of Bianna Golodryga.

  9. Sara Haines announced on GMA Day that she is expecting.  Will be interesting to see who is rotated through that spot to fill in.  Doesn't strike me as one that a serious journo like Amy Robach or Cecilia Vega would fit in.  I imagine we could see Paula Faris, Adrienne Bankert, or Lara Spencer.

  10. Aw, it was so amazing seeing this video! Glad they honored their past and honestly Bill Beutel will always be a legend and an icon for not only WABC but for many other organizations around the world. It was so awesome to see Roz again! Roz could've been sitting right there next to Diana today had she not left WABC for WCBS. But, a new era is about to begin for them when they eventually relocate to the Hudson Yards area? I forget where the other member had mentioned where they are moving to.

    Best,

    Vlad

They're moving to the West Village, which is south of Hudson Yards. It won't be for several years, though.

  11. Can you retroactively insert a morality clause in the event there was never one included?

There probably was one included. Standard issue. The question would be what scope of "immorality" it covers.

  12. I also wouldn't necessarily assume additional talent moves are forthcoming. This could just be CBS trying to emulate the 4-6 person ensemble cast that has worked well for GMA and Today.

  13. Fair enough. But Rubin emphasized executives being fed up with Kelly Ripa's demands and ego. We've seen networks make silly decisions with their personalities just to satisfy an executive's egos. Kelly was considered so profitable and important to ABC that they went behind her back to move her handpicked co-host to Good Morning America. GMA is definitely their priority over her.

TV execs don't cancel shows because the host has a big ego.

  14. I know I sound like a broken record and that everyone doesn’t agree but FFS when is GMA going to give up on trying to build Michael Strahan into this serious news personality?

They had him conduct the interview with the young girl who pushed her friend off the bridge leading to her injuries. Watching a few seconds of the interview shows exactly why he shouldn’t be doing these kinds of pieces.

I found the premise of the whole interview to be bizarre. I'm not really sure how to explain, but I don't know why they even had her on the show for an interview in the first place.

  15. Lauren Glassberg has been substitute anchoring far more often recently than she typically had in the past. Wonder if it's a contract renewal stipulation for her, or if they're short staffed with summer vacations.

On another note, Sade is going to slowly return to the 5:00 pm show next month per Bill Ritter.

  16. My question is, will the show seem bloated if all 6 on-air talent graced the screen for a one-hour version of the show? I understand they want to mimic the three anchor dynamic that they have on their weekday show, but it just seems too tacky on the weekend.

My guess is that they'll either phase out the news reader role in favor of three coanchors, or they'll drop back down to two co-anchors after Paula's replacement is chosen. Either way, I think we'll see five, not six.
