I wonder too if they will drop to the next tier of markets, i.e. upper-middle markets (i.e. 31 to 60) where it is all affiliates and no O&O's, but I'd think most or all capable top 30 markets (i.e. top to high markets) would get a chance first. Also, I don't think they would schedule it for Oklahoma City in the spring unless they have a backup since they could have severe weather coverage to deal with as well. I'm sure there are backup options set up anyway.

There's no indication they are for sale and that would be all rumors. They do have financial problems right now, but if the pandemic ends soon, it wouldn't be fatal. (That said, companies like Gray, Scripps, Hearst and Nexstar, and the networks themselves, are in pretty good shape and holding up without any job or salary losses).

Some Wall Street analyst is completely blind it sounds like - after all, it appears Scripps is one of the healthier companies right now. https://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2020/5/12/analyst-maybe-scripps-should-can-some-people

I wonder who does it next weekend? If I got to choose, I'd give it to WOIO or WBTV, followed by WTVF, so other owners get a shot too. Of the top 30 markets: 14 are O&O's and 4 are owned by Tegna, 3 by Meredith, 3 by Nexstar, 2 by Gray, 1 by Cox , 1 by Scripps, 1 by Sinclair and 1 by Graham.

I'm sure a competitor will scoop him up once the non-compete is over.

TEGNA Broadcasting and Digital General Discussion
GoldenShine9 replied to ABC 7 Denver's topic in Corporate Chat
That's true. But I know the Chief Met, especially an experienced one, is seen as the "trusted" voice. If I was there, I would have flipped to WSOC or WBTV otherwise.- 3684 replies

https://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2020/4/29/tornado-sirens-sound-and-the-chief-meteorologist-is-furloughed Apparently, there is a big question mark on WCNC's Chief Meteorologist who may have broke the furlough, even though it was certainly the responsible thing to do. He may have even stood up against his company.- 3684 replies

If Gray acquiring Tegna was difficult, Nexstar would be next to impossible.- 3684 replies

Bob Iger: He's Back, and This Time, He's MAD.

We should move this thread to Speculatron? -
They should maybe let one of their smallest affiliates give it a try? I'd be curious to see it out of, say, KXGN. It might be precautionary to limit the exposure at the main Broadcast Center, since NYC is the epicenter of the outbreak.

I also got the impression that Hilton Howell's letter was a middle finger to the Tegna board.- 3684 replies

I'm guessing at least some of the non-Gray stations will air it, particularly those owned by independents or those who don't have significant overlap with Gray.

I wonder if others step in, like Scripps? Also stock prices will likely recover after the COVID-19 crisis ends.- 3684 replies

TEGNA Broadcasting and Digital General Discussion
GoldenShine9 replied to ABC 7 Denver's topic in Corporate Chat
There's probably room on 6.5 since stations haven't been afraid to use them lately. That seems most likely in Portland IMO. I can certainly see Tegna placing it on more of their stations in markets where Gray is absent.- 3684 replies

I know quite a number of Tegna stations have added it in markets where Gray is absent. I know they did a joint venture over the OTT partnership, so there may be good relations between them.- 3684 replies

A bit surprising they would work together, since they are direct competition in a large number of markets (I count at least 17), although in Tucson they inherited partnerships that already existed.- 3684 replies

The Ever-Evolving Gray Graphics Situation...Thread
GoldenShine9 replied to NEOMatrix's topic in Graphics
Is there any way WRDW/WAGT can get the new Gray graphics? Their current graphics are terrible (especially with weather), probably the worst of any Gray-owned station. Then again, that has always been one of the weakest stations in their portfolio. -
That seemed like the most likely path for it too, since Meredith and Gray have very little overlap - they seem like companies that can work together more easily.
-
The Gray-owned Circle network is now available in Nashville and in many other Meredith markets (not all of them yet, but it's a big move for Gray to add their channel in other markets). https://musicrow.com/2020/02/circle-launches-in-nashville-on-wsmv/
