  1. Well...does the current news theme say "hard evening news"? Not at all. Does it say "Here's the news that will help and affect you"? Certainly. And that appears to be ABC's "mission" if you will, so I think that theme is here to say. Honestly, I like the theme a lot, it's very catchy. Would it fit good on NBC or CBS? NOT. AT ALL.
  2. So I was on vimeo checking out some videos from CBS Creative, and came across some old promos from WCBS. It's amazing how corny they were. Here's a bit of a "throwback Tuesday": http://vimeo.com/42638235 http://vimeo.com/42651847
  3. Well PIX seems to be looking for a new weekday anchor/reporter. I wonder for what timeslot. Are they finally gathering talent for new newscasts? : https://careers-tribune.icims.com/jobs/40861/newsperson%2c-per-diem/job?hub=8&mobile=false&width=1350&height=500&bga=true&needsRedirect=false
  4. I was just going through Vimeo, and found this. http://vimeo.com/55996657 Now when the Fox O&O graphics were released back in 2012, was this supposed to be WNYW's original open and then it was changed to the one they use now?
  5. Unrelated to WABC, but I know WPIX went until 10am today. And WNYW is a joke when it comes to weather and other breaking news stories. If there's a big weather story, WNYW will NEVER preempt their special programming. Even during the 9/11 recognition ceremony, WNYW thought Wendy Williams was more important. And related to WABC, Rob Nelson is anchoring today with Liz on EWN first at 4.
  6. With nearly 14" of rain in parts of LI, I would think every station would have special coverage. News12 LI doing a fantastic job as usual.
  7. Here are some pictures: I also think the main reason they did this was to include the freedom tower. The old backdrops were used since 2011, and the freedom tower wasn't fully constructed yet.
  8. According to Scott Stanford, the PIX11 Sports Desk will be expanded to 5 nights a week beginning soon (no date has been specified).
  9. I'm sure many of you know by now...but in case you don't, Rachel Frank is pregnant! I guess this means we'll be seeing a lot more of Chris Knowles?
  10. I agree, his opinion is starting to get to me. Take a look at some of these quotes: "Tuned In would get spin from the other stations, but PIX typically is the only station to put such emphasis on the summertime, a time when viewership is drastically altered by vacations." "The only thing worse than declaring an off-season victory is comparing results from last summer" "And in case you’re wondering, the PIX News at 10 made a 33 percent leap compared to July 2013. That stat is somewhat misleading since the station was still using one anchor" "The next big question for WPIX is how will they fare in the November sweeps?" Barmash has to start looking at the bright side of things. Watching WPIX the last few days (especially the evening 5 and 10pm newscasts), the content has improved DRASTICALLY. The only thing wrong about the evening newscast is that they have to cut down on weather teases, and get a new studio. That's all. The morning newscast is a different story, it's still a bit of a train-wreck, but not horrible. Although this probably belongs on the WNBC thread, if their 5pm newscast continues to do poorly in ratings, does anybody else see a situation in which Gus Rosendale anchors with Contessa on weekend mornings, and Pat Battle replaces Shiba at noon and 5pm? I honestly don't, but was just wondering IF WNBC was to execute this plan, how ratings would turn out.
  11. Yes, that's how it always works.
  12. Tonight's 6pm newscast was odd, Cindy used the side panels of the studio as the backdrop instead of the skyline, the weather center was not in use at all, and they tossed to Steve overmeyer, who was doing sports from another side of the studio, but did not sit with Cindy. I guess they are doing some touch ups on their studio?
  13. PIX news at 5 is beating both FOX and NBC in July sweeps. http://corporate.tribune.com/pressroom/?p=7787
  14. Chris Knowles was doing the weather tonight! Kaity looked very happy to see him.
  15. Lisa Mateo is reporting live from the balloon festival in NJ today on the PIX News at 5, but she also did the weather in addition to her reporting. I wonder if she'll do the weather again at 10, or if they'll call in Craig Allen or Joe Cioffi for that broadcast. I'm only saying this because this is the first time Lisa did the weather since her role was reassigned when PIX revamped the morning show.
  16. I actually remember you saying that. And I do agree with you, he's not a bad anchor. I almost wish he were permanent to the show instead of Andrea Grymes. I mean, I like Andrea and all...but there's just too many women on CBS 2's weekend morning shows right now.
  17. speaking of new WNYW graphics, I noticed tonight that they updated some transitions. For example, they have a new "FOX" transition that they use (and it looks very nice!). In addition, they have a new "live" transition, which is much better than the old one (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3TEHxHW0zzk#t=55). I couldn't get any screenshots, however (I'll see if I can get any from their livestream).
  18. I know all of this is not exactly related to WABC, but what NYC station do you guys think will be next to get new graphics? My guess would be either WABC, WNYW, or WNBC. Also, I think News12 Networks could use an update to their graphics soon. Also, I created this design for WABC in powerpoint one day. I think the open looks kind of ugly (and yes I'm critiquing my own design), but I like the lower thirds. What do you guys think?
  19. http://tunedinnyc.com/2014/07/22/wpix-anchor-kirstin-cole-makes-inappropriate-beanie-comment/ Thoughts?
  20. LOL, today at 5 PIX is using the "newer" transitions, but with the 10pm open (along with the other "coming up/right now" graphics that are usually custom to the 10pm show).
  21. Watching the PIX news at 10 tonight, and I noticed they revised their title graphics. They look similar to the revamped morning graphics. See it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b-joXdTvFvA&list=UUzqpvO3cxishuzqmx09tnLA This replaces the "older" graphics: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iu7tclAx-DE#t=40
  22. Well, apparently Scott's been given the job of "rebuilding the sports department" so in my view, that I think that means he'll be in charge of everything. And I'm so glad I am not the only one who thinks Andy Adler gets WAY too much air time. She even sits where Kaitlin Monte's supposed to sit. Back on track, I guess this means Scott should also be in charge of getting a weekend sports anchor. How about Dyrol Joyner, or even Tina Cervasio (who's been freelancing at WNYW recently and has been on the sports desk two times already, including last night and one time with Andy Adler, so both Scott and Andy must like her). But the fact that Scott's been demoted to sports only and may not be given an extension to his contract kind of gives me the impression that management does not like him. But it seems like they love Tamsen, the same way they love Suki. If you ask me, Tamsen and John would be a FANTASTIC morning team and would be able to compete with WNYW. As an evening team, well, I can take them. They're all right (John being a lot better than Tamsen). But hey, does anyone remember how hard of a time we gave Kristine Johnson when she was promoted? And look at WCBS' product now, she has become a MUCH better anchor than when she started. I can see the same happening with Tamsen over time.
  23. I agree, she's definitely shining in the anchor seat. I can see her becoming the main fill-in for Tamsen (although I'd still rather see Kaity Tong fill that spot). Heck, maybe if PIX expands their newscasts, she will becoming a permanent anchor in some slot? Who knows.
  24. Yes, it is. It's Jerry Barmash's blog. And blogs were invented for one to express their opinion, and essentially be biased.
