I want a number more layers, light flares, 3D animations with models of multiple objects and several Mograph effect, custom transition mattes, a variety of textures, etc.

How 2007-ish... this sort of thing isn’t really in for news.

Would something like this make you feel better?

Ugh. Just so blah. Barley serviceable. Such an uninspired package.

    Case in point:

That video actually proves the opposite. You can do a lot with it if you throw a little effort into it. You’ve never really been very clear exactly what you want it to do...

  3. Well... the open is generic in a “taking action for you, you’re watching 7 Action News” way. No times or anything in the open which sucks. The graphics seem to move a little faster than others we have seen. There are 3 transition graphics: ghosted Circle 7 in the background without logo, silver circle 7 Logo With ghosted 7 in the background and ghosted circle 7 logo with ghosted 7 in the background. Weather graphics have had a minor refresh on the maps to add the cartoonish suns and all the other graphics look as advertised there. Several of the L3’s had no text message tab on them. It’s a much better look and I hope they lean on that heavily. Music was the midday theme. I took pictures of most of this if somebody wants to see them I’ll post whatever you’re interested in.

If anything Scripps could potentially be looking at more stations however, I just can't imagine them with Meredith's stations because in spite of the overlaps it's just simply not a good fit for them and I think Scripps has bigger fish to go after than Meredith

Why is it not a good fit?

Per @froyo49 the theme is now on News Music Now at http://www.newsmusicnow.com/news-music/#scripps . More extensive cuts than available on NMSA or Stephen Arnold’s YouTube.

My takeaway: They should make a slightly more serious version of the sports theme and use that as the main news theme.

I’m thinking the political or midday themes as the main theme... it’ll be interesting to evaluate whether every station used the themes as described by track name at some point. I have the feeling some of them will change up which theme is which.

    Let's think about this:

Since the sale of the RSNs by Disney to Sinclair (and even during the approval process of the sale) they've lost contracts with Dish, and several streamming providers (partially with YouTube TV) to carry the RSNs. That coupled with the lack of sports is really exposing and truly showing how much "value" the RSNs are actually worth (and its not much)

Sinclair better hope the contact sports can get back to action by June/July

Well... they kinda depend on the games for their lifeblood... but that’s kind of a given.

I'll save it for speculation as I don't want to go too far into speculating in things but we'll know a lot more about the impact of the RSNs by the end of the year and clearly states like Oregon want to bankrupt the RSNs by not allowing sporting events to take place with fans in the stands

Ah so that’s what it’s all about... bankrupting the RSN’s...

If the only place to catch a game is on TV then that’s the RSN’s dream come true. They’ll make more in ad revenue due to higher viewership.

A few notes and questions I have for anyone in the know....

-WXYZ has the graphics for seemingly everything except their newscasts. Their promos have them, their stream has them during commercial breaks, etc. So what’s taking so long for them? (This was noticeable pre-Pandemic)

-So far, KJRH appears to be the only NBC affiliate that has opted to use the version of the music with NBC chimes. Why?

-KOAA has had the new graphics for weather for almost a month and a half. They got the weather graphics the same time KSHB did... but KSHB now has the new graphics for everything. KOAA still doesn’t. What’s taking so long? I get that there’s a pandemic happening... but they already launched the weather graphics during the pandemic. So I’m wondering if there’s something more at play.

-How come none of the teeny tiny markets have these yet? It seems like mostly middle markets who have these so far. (Pre-Pandemic)

-I’ve heard some deeper cuts of the music, more than what Stephen Arnold has put out to the public. There are some really good cuts that would make for better newscast opens, IMO. There are cuts with more urgency, which I feel like the music needs. Why are stations not utilizing the music package to its fullest potential?

Even WXYZ’s transition between stories in the open has the new graphics (looks pretty slick)... Graphics nerds be demanding graphics..

WFTX, WFTS, WTMJ and WCPO are the only other ones I'm thinking of right now that do have their logos in color in the new opens.

WXYZ will get them some day... I’m 95% sure the logo will be ghosted... I would love to throw that in on the list but still nothing...

I can read that bug just fine myself.

It vanishes when it gets into say an outdoor scene or anything super bright or white. It doesn’t do that in the above video but it is a known issue with the package.

Is this the first Scripps station in the new graphics package with a color logo on the open?  Also they are still not using the new Scripps music on the copyright lighthouse tag.  I assume that will be fixed soon.   Honestly, I dont think the color logo looks good with this new look.  Also, the L3 Time and Temp is hard to see when the image behind it is light.   I know its a Saturday night, and I assume they will only enhance the package.

The hard to see time and temp bug is a problem that every station with the new look has.. it needs a blue box behind it at all times.

That bug couldn't be any harder to read.

It’s not hard to read at all. So yes it could be harder to read. MUCH harder.

Wow - He has jumped around quite a bit. He was at Spectrum News here in Charlotte for a bit (literally, outside my apartment), after coming from WJZ. Thats a lot of moving around!

Thanks... now I’ve got the image of the guy doing the news in the hallway literally outside your apartment...

I tried to give her a chance, but her open disdain for Trump and his administration turned me off.  Her lack of objectivity is shocking when compared to Lester and David.

SIDE NOTE: Just to be completely clear...I am not a supporter of Trump (never have been/never will be). I just wish more journalists would abide by certain tenets of journalism, especially during these times.

We all need to remember that objectivity is largely a postwar modern era invention. Journalism Spent most of its first 200 or so years as a partisan exercise and many of the “reporters“ were beholden directly to one or the other side. Heck some newspapers were at one time nearly party Appendages. We are going back to that slowly but surely for whatever it’s worth.

Can't force someone to take a test without a court order, would be a violation of rights.

I suppose that might be a question for a court. In extraordinary circumstances courts have been very lenient on that sort of thing especially in a public welfare situation. It’s pretty easy to argue that is where we are now. That’s the same reason Freedom of speech and assembly don’t apply in these quarantines. Knowing 100% of exactly who has it would make stopping the spread pretty easy.

that’s not how the criteria for testing works and would’ve been a waste of a test.

In theory if it finds a positive it isn’t a waste of a test. The problem is we don’t have enough tests. Ideally we would be going door to door across the country testing mandatorily.
