  1. Good lord... At least the fireworks went off without a hitch...
  2. What's glitching this time?
  3. Kacie Hollins has joined WXYZ as a sports reporter. She came from FOX O&O WJZY in Charlotte. Her first night was tonight. She is WXYZ's first female sports reporter.
  4. It always seemed to me like the message was "who let you near a TV station, specifically this one?". The WCBS massacre is kind of infamous though for just the sheer ruthlessness in which it was carried out. Those folks didn't even get to be fired at the end of the day..
  5. So there has to be 8 TV stations in a market to form a duopoly without upsetting the competitive balance under the rules?
  6. I've got the feeling 5 is gonna do whatever it takes to make 7 nervous and eventually 2nd. Some of what 7 does is a little stale so that's 5's opening right there. 7's audience being older doesn't help them...
  7. I won't be redundant and put this in the WGN thread but Jim Ryan who did fill in work for the last 13 years as a traffic reporter at WMAQ and CLTV was released by Traffic.com/HERE/NAVTEQ this week.
  8. They absolutely do... You just gotta hope the right person gets the message.
  9. WGN? Whoops...
  10. You just don't make as much in third as the guy in first and in business that sucks.
  11. Well as in ratings which translates to money. Personal feelings about the cookies are irrelavent.
  12. Out of all that stuff you listed WPTV is the only one doing "well"...
  13. Not ones that throw the coins back...
  14. What's with you? All you do is spit up sarcasm...
  15. WXYZ has some more sports stuff coming... this time it's a partnership with the University of Michigan: WXYZ is partnering with U of M starting Sunday August 30th at 1030am as part of its sports block. They will air "Inside Michigan Football" with Jim Harbaugh. It'll run 14 weeks. Starting December 6th Men's Basketball Head Coach John Beilein's show "Inside Michigan Basketball" will also air at 1030am Sundays. Their Monday 6pm newscast is also gonna have interviews with Harbaugh and Beilein weekly during their respective seasons. http://www.wxyz.com/news/wxyz-tv-to-premiere-inside-michigan-football-featuring-coach-jim-harbaugh For all the disinvestment we have been talking about they have been investing A LOT into their Detroit operations and largely sparing them from the clown stuff at some of the other properties.
  16. It's becoming apparent that the fact the Bears are an NFC team is about the whole of why they have an O&O in Chicago. Maybe the ad revenue from some of their primetime is ok at least but I agree... It's really tough to grasp what the disconnect between problem and solution is. It shouldn't be this impossible to improve it.
  17. I would think 32 would need to show some sort of improvement before it gets lots of love from FOX. They seem intent on doing the opposite to that station.
  18. It's improved A LOT in the last year and a half...,but yeah it takes a long time to reverse an 11 year decline. WXYZ lacked a plan due to 2 bad news directors and 3 GM's in 2 years. Scripps has invested in a bunch of new reporters in the last 18 months plus WMYD so it's not as bad as it seems. It's almost back to an O&O staffing level talent wise and the content is comparable. There are some quality control issues still but it feels large market again finally.
  19. I doubt it.... It's just a risk anytime you put a non-official person on there...
  20. That's common practice in Chicago severe weather extended coverage to take calls.
  21. I think most broadcast stations in the US have a dump button. Somebody just was asleep at the switch. Of course taking viewer calls like that at all is a risk in itself. I would have preferred just weather to the rolling pool of idiots the stations were bringing on last night... especially 7. Nonody really had much of anything important to add or knew how to answer a question...
  22. They have the highly rated Inside Edition in there at 430. That's not gonna get moved as long as it does well. Stephen Clark is more or less a Bonds-style anchor. Guy has his 11am show that he does too. I just don't see the need to reshuffle their lineup as long as it works. I like Stephen Clark myself... he's an old school anchor.
  23. Guy Gordon left 7 on bad terms in '03... He's happy at WDIV I think. If anything he'll anchor the 5 but I think he'll just report for awhile. Stephen fits the anchor mold at 7... Guy Gordon never did.
  24. I wonder why they are cutting some to the bone and sparing others?
  25. Curtis Jackson has joined WXYZ as a Reporter/Anchor. He came from WKRC in Cinncinati where he anchored their 530pm and 10pm shows until last year.
