  1. Consolidation is happening in TV the same way it happened in radio for the same reason it happened in radio and newspapers. Declining revenue and declining margins due to a dwindling customer base. Fewer people are watching local TV because of ever growing options and an increasingly fractured public. Fewer clients are buying ads. And when they are, they're paying less money because they can do math.

This is the reason every station group is decreasing staffing levels. Why every station group is investing in technology that helps eliminate jobs. Why everybody's favorite anchor is now working PR for a hospital or government entity. The groups everyone loves. The groups everyone hates. The groups that put out a consistently good product. The groups that put out a halfassed product. They're all doing the same thing and they're all looking to merge because scale is one of the only ways to maintain margins.

Grow up everyone. You're in a dying industry. Clicking your heels and chanting to yourself there's no place like 1996 isn't going to get you anywhere. I've lost enough friends in the business over the years and know enough people who are still in this godforsaken business to tell you to keep your resume in good enough shape to get you a job in the real world. If you zoom out far enough to see the future, you can see that we're all screwed. The indignant, immature state of denial that this entire forum seems to exist in makes my eyes nearly roll out of their sockets.

    Amen!

  2. Wasn't Ken supposed to be the logical heir apparent to Frank Somerville? Correct me if I'm wrong.

Well stations anchorships are no longer hierarchy's by any means.

Most of you wish they still were...by they are not.

FOX is moving to a newsreader style locally...away from "Anchors".

They have proved the concept as viable so far at KTVU.

KTVU has bounced talent all over the schedule for the last 2 years and the viewers seem fine with it.

But only very special eyes at KTVU get to see the ratings. Doubtful Ken even has a clue as to what his numbers actually are/were.

I may even say Mr. Wayne may NOT have had a clause in his previous contract requiring FOX to fully disclose the ratings to him and his agent.

    Anywayyyyyyyyyy

  3. On one hand I'm really surprised Sinclair fired him, he seemed like a perfect fit for Sinclair culturally and clearly had no problem following the company talking points.....on the other hand when you threaten to "ram a hot poker" up a teenagers butt it's really hard to defend that person and keep him employed.

My guess is that Sinclair will just take a "wait and see" approach by not replacing Allman with anything significant and hope that the Tribune merger is approved and KTVI can start producing news for KDNL (or where ever ABC affiliation in St. Louis ends up).

I think Sinclair really didn't have much of a choice since Boris's butt puckered up too....

    A hot poker....really?

    Are we heathens?

  4. It is the first instance that I can recall that a major station is producing a local newscast for a religious station.

This does make WLJC recognizable now, even though its a religious station.

Do ya think Jesus has "Must-Runs"?

  5. Yeah, I understand now why they kept it, because when watching some of the older opens, that news-ticker jingle that begins in the start of the theme, is super catchy and sounds just like the original Cool Hand Luke theme from the 70s and 80s and early 90s. So I get it now, but they can do a newer rendition of it no? But I guess it might be a theme to stay for the forseable future. I'm assuming WABC has access to the entire Eyewitness News Package.

    .

    What ???

    No EWN-EDM extended fanboy remix?

I'm starting to lose faith in the NMSA fanboys...

No news music mixtapes...no EDM's...not even any crappy "tropical house" EWN version.

    What gives?

  6. I got to see some clips of the Turko Files via YouTube of KUSI's newscasts and it was pretty entertaining... To say the least

I think he will be back.....soon.

  7. You really think the majority of the general viewing public turns to a newscast because of the theme?.

    I never said that...

I said I would have a hard time learning the words to the new theme.

Here at the senior center we all like to sing-a-long to the EWN themes. If you change the theme...we won't watch.

Some older people (FNC viewers mostly) have memory issues. Some people that get slapped a lot also have problems membering things.

    I guess that's why I get slapped a lot.

  8. There's no reason to change the music. Part of the reason Eyewitness News is successful is because it has a long history and a recognized brand. The music is part of that. Loyal viewers who have been watching for 10, 20, 30+ years like it and like the consistency. They don't like change.

I have a hard enough time remembering the words to the current EWN theme.

God forbid we have to learn the words to a new theme song. That could be quite difficult for older and less smarter people.

  9. One could argue Ozark Trail makes a comparable tumbler cup for a third of the price. I own both and the difference is negligible.

Does it have a straw included?

I like those with HD plastic straws some of them come with, but I would need a line on replacement straws. And NO....fast food straws are too short and brittle...and those long red 7-11 big gulp straws crack too easily, and the green ones are too short.

And just to stay on topic...

I will need the straws for my Yeti when I watch TV News.

  10. I’m sorry DigitalProdJoey, but I just don’t see the humor in a man physically abusing his wife.

You can talk about domestic abuse all you wish.

The rest of us are talking Yeti's...

    "Yeti's don't hurt people...people hurt people."

  11. Glad you think it’s okay to make jokes about a domestic violence incident.

Not my fault you are too cheap to own a Yeti...

It certainly is a higher end item in the go-go world of hot and cold storage.

    Save your money boy.

  12. I wonder how they're going to handle the two KFMB stations websites? Do you think they'll keep two different sites for CBS/CW, or do you think they'll lump it into the same site?

Tegna still doesn't have control of the domains (Still in station hands), so I expect it to take a while for a new site.

    https://www.godaddy.com/whois/results.aspx?domain=cbs8.com

    https://www.godaddy.com/whois/results.aspx?domain=thecwsandiego.com

KFMB owns News8SD.com, I wonder if they'll use that domain?

    https://www.godaddy.com/whois/results.aspx?domain=news8sd.com

    Quote from the KFMB stations...

"The silence is deafening around here".

    BTW...

I LOVE the avitar you have!

I would love to find a clip of the "XETV -...Ole !" jingle or ID from those post ABC years.
