  1. I don’t think you see on air talent suing their news director for discrimination ever day of the week. That’s what happened here. There’s a reason WABC management has just been gutted.

KGO TV was just sued by talent in a similar type case...ND was named in the suit.

    http://richliebermanreport.blogspot.com/2018/02/kgo-still-hasnt-made-announcement-on-gm.html

Numerous other stations across the country are being sued by talent...for age discrimination.

    It happens everyday.

There are plenty of good reasons why you DON'T just lop-off the heads of the departments. Very solid strategic reasons are behind these decisions.

If we fire her...she can go rouge.

If we keep her on staff...we still have almost complete control.

The WABC case is pretty standard fare as far as employer/employee suits go.

    ...and the best part is...

None of us will ever know how it ends...unless there is a stipulation making any settlement public...

I wouldn't bet on that stipulation becoming true.

  2. i strongly disagree the fact is that camille left a trail of devestation with a demoralized news room, and has blood on her hands(some will say thats too far but who knows)

...and every news director gets sued at least a few times...no matter the market size.

I would go as far to bet the lawsuits have NOTHING to do with anything.

ABC and it's affils are sued every single day of the week for all kinds of reasons.

  3. KITV in Hawaii is having some twitter trouble. I noticed yesterday that many of their tweets just link directly to an AP article with text in the tweet saying it’s copyrighted.

    Oh Brudda...

    Robert sez's...

  4. I have literally no idea what's going to happen with the affiliations. Gotta admit, television in Wyoming is kind of a mess as is, and some of that's simply because of the DMA lines.

    Ok cool...

But I see that as a growth market with all the people getting the hell out of CA.

Now can your growth in population translate into growth for your OTA signals and other "platforms'. Will viewer erosion take a bigger toll?

    Are those stations all dogs???

Or is there some hidden gems there?

  5. Hilton Howell III isn't to be underestimated. Everyone here talks about how ruthless Nexstar's Perry Sook and the Sinclair execs are, but nobody here talks about how ruthless Hilton Howell III can be. Much like Sook, he also pinches as many pennies as he can if it doesn't benefit him.

The man has a Caribbean tan in the dead of winter and has injected his face with so much botox nobody knows how old he actually is. He's an interesting CEO...

He is just like his father Thurston Howell III . His father was quite the survivor and so was his mom. I was always amazed at how both of them could pack so much into such small suitcases.

His Mom and Dad are still missed...and fondly remembered to this day.

  6. I wouldn’t put a labor union in the same boat as a corporation.

    Of course...

The corporation asked nicely for a donation.

However the union just took it (your money)...as a condition of employment.

A donation is not mandatory in the case of Sinclair and it's desired pac. A union member has NO choice as to where the dues go, and for what "cause".

    As you were.

  7. No media/broadcasting corporation should, directly or indirectly, have a PAC and/or ask their employees to contribute to said PAC regardless of political affiliation. While it may seem like people are piling on Sinclair; believe me that they would be just as critical if this was Comcast, AT&T, Disney, etc...doing the same thing.

    Like labor unions do?

  8. Ginger Jeffries, who left KMIR six months ago, is joining KUSI (IND-9) in San Diego as the weekend AM co-anchor along side Jason Austell. It sounds like Elizabeth Alvarez is being moved from the anchor desk to the field (like Dan Plante).

    http://www.kusi.com/bios/82184/

    Thanks,

I was just about to ask "Who is this new chick on KUSI"?

Now I don't have to wait for the graphic.

Anybody got dirt on her yet...or do I have to look her up myself? Is she a felon? Does she text and drive? Is she from AZ cuz she looks like some woman from Gilbert.

Does she have any dirt on Janet Zapalla?

Oh I just read her bio...

    Looks kinda boring.

  9. http://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2018/2/1/sinclair-wants-employees-contribute-to-their-pac

Color me shocked.......not. Something told me that they would do something like this.

    Don't be shocked...

The broadcasting labor unions do the exact same thing 10X over by requesting the members to donate to various democratic pacs.

It happens during every election cycle and has occurred in one form or another for decades.

  10. As silly as this sounds, Swann is young and good looking, traits that very few conservative journalists/commentators have. There's definitely value in that.

and that is what confuses me...

TV twinks are all the rage right now and you would think he was gonna be able to write his own ticket. But then he makes this series of bonehead moves...

    Simply put...

None of what he did made any sense.

    Unless he had a hissy-fit.

    That happens.

  11. ... Here's hoping he doesn't end up at a certain company that owns too many stations...

I think his arrogance (will or already) has burnt that possibility. Doesn't seem like he listens to his agent, or he just likes to ride bareback, and takes his chances.

So if he had faith in his personal brand then he would probably re-activate that questionable website that got him fired.

How many ND's did he survive?

  12. Lester Holt did a piece on North Korea. Considering the amount of time he was there they should've spend 3 days on the story instead of ultra editing it to a 4 minute segment.

I'm sure they are sitting on plenty of other N.Korean fluff pieces. Those will be aired in the weeks to come.

  13. One of the biggest problems Megyn Kelly faces is that we really don’t know who ‘the real’ Megyn Kelly is. She was a different person when she was on FNC and said/did a lot of stupid things imo (‘Santa can only be White’, etc..).

Now she is on NBC, she has attempted to clean up her image, but that’s tough to do when, for example, you’re an advocate for Women one day and attack an 80 yr. old Woman the next for no reason. This is only one incident/misstep she has made since arriving at NBC.

I think she has never fully taken the time for some self-reflection in order to better herself. Granted that may sound like nonsense, but she would have been better off not taking the job at NBC and spending some time with her family out of the spotlight.

I think she is gonna work the bad girl thing for a bit. The whole Jane Fonda thing generated plenty of hits, views and clicks across all the NBC platforms...and many others platforms. Some of these bonehead moves by NBC are actually kinda brilliant.

Women love to spar, and TODAY and GMA are becoming "women only" spaces just like most of social media is.

NBC and Kelly can afford to try new things, let them fight if it generates buzz and clicks. Heck let them start getting drunk at 8am if they want.

It's not like TV news media really has to worry about credibility anyway.

  14. Holy bleep. I can't believe I'm saying this but... PBS is back in Puerto Rico!

So yes, PBS is back in Puerto Rico. Wonderful news for a country still reeling from Hurricane Maria.

DISCLAIMER: I'm half Puerto Rican so I had to share this and this is wonderful news for public broadcasting.

This is also great news for Koreans and Mexicans visiting Puerto Rico, as they will also be able to enjoy the many offerings of these great PBS stations.

Disclaimer: I'm American, Korean and Mexican.

I enjoy Kimchi tacos...and long walks on the beach with my horse "Mr.Chu"

  15. We got tired of you guys complaining about not being able to see shit, so decided to make it as contrasting as possible, in hopes you'll either complain less or we either blind you and you can't see. Either way, we expect the complaints.
