  1. What seems to be the reasoning as to why in some places, the local newspapers don't even post about the ratings sweeps periods?

A whole slew of reasons depending on many, many factors.

Email your local newspaper editor and ask them.

Maybe they think there is no local interest, maybe they don't have the people to do so, maybe the ratings services don't make the info available.

Ask the source...ask the editors of the newspaper.

  2. Get ready for FTVLive's ego boosting "You heard it here first" posts...

I hear he has a spycam pointed toward that revolving door at WGCL...another cam at the Fulton Co, Jail...and another at the local AA meeting clubhouse.

    You heard it here first..

  3. Perhaps the Murdoch family will use a little of the cash they get from Disney to bring WNYW's studio up to 21st century quality.

It's NOT the studio that is the problem.

It's the entire building that sucks. The electrical sucks...the hvac sucks...the place stinks.

Moving out is the only viable solution, unless FOX wants to sink a crapload of money in the place.

  4. I was at a fair in downtown St. Louis today and happened to walk past KMOV. This is what I saw.

Make from it what you will.

How much for one of those KMOV blue bug screens???

...because I want one for camping.

  5. It was Hugh Hewitt’s 30 minute show that got canned. Apparently no one noticed until now.

Hewitt is deep policy wonk...way too deep for most audiences... of BOTH parties.

I don't understand why MSNBC even bothers with any type of conservative programming unless they have a guilty conscious.

Ok here is a funny joke for you and the toons...

Q: How can you tell it's a holiday on FOX News Channel???

A: Juan Williams is guest hosting every show.

  6. If Saturday morning TV was released from the grip of E/I requirements, most would probably dump the kids stuff anyways and air either news or infomercials. MAYBE a station or 2 (like PBS or the KidsClick stuff on MNTV) would have it....

Then again...if the whole commercial limits thing was relaxed, you'd have shows like these....

    5f15_chocobot.jpg

And if Hanna-Barbera was never sold to Turner by Taft, chances are it could have ended up under Sinclair....

    Do they have a monkey...

    Named Boris?

  7. I really miss the days when networks programmed Saturday morning cartoons. With the chance that the FCC is going to do away with E/I rules, there just might be a glimmer... but realistically the networks would just boot Litton and give the time back. More infomercial wasteland on a once vibrant daypart... am I getting old?

The Saturday morning cartoons were one of the first targets of the PC police.

We used to have some cool shows and cartoons between the Sid Marty Kroft stuff and the endless parade of crappy Hanna Barbera stuff on NBC.

All us kids wanted to be in a cartoon "space rock" group...and I wanted a monkey for a mascot.

    Pass the Freakies please.

it don't get more off-topic than that!

  8. Who's next? I'm thinking Barbara-Lee. $$

I would space it out a bit...expect some EP's and dept heads to get "the visit"...lop-off talent in 4 month intervals with completion by June 2019.

    I would make a list...

But it's a little close to home now...

    Maybe I'm becoming a softie.

  9. Matt Baylow, Chief Meteorologist KFBM CBS-8 San Diego to retire at end of the month. (From his Facebook page):

"After 38+ years of weather forecasting, the time has come for me to do something else (and by "something else" I mean NOTHING) - so although it's been an awesome ride, this train comes into the station Wednesday, June 27th at 5pm.

I'd say it's the stress of live television or an uncooperative management team, but neither is the case - (the good people at KFMB Stations wanted to keep me around for another year) - rather it's simply time for more naps, more bridge, more cooking, etc. More information is forthcoming, but I've been really fortunate throughout my career, especially the past 20 years here in San Diego - my last chance to get it wrong will be at the end of the month."

And like the nice little lamb that Matt was...

He put on a brave little face...and managed to crack a brave little final parting smile...to his fellow workers...

...As they led him off to slaughter.

  10. Eat, it’s much more fun if we’re frenemies. I think others would prefer it that way too as that is their only source of entertainment besides your bad jokes. We can make peace one day, just not today.

    Hugs!

    Thanks,

I need a break for a few days...I can beat on you later in the week if it works better for you busy schedule.

I have carpool this week, and all this winning is kinda tiring.

  11. It’s kind of funny to think a group of relatively small size, privately owned, sitting on a huge pile of cash isn’t updating their stations to modern day technology. Not all of the equipment in the stations have to be network standard but put out good HD pictures.

Ever since Radio Shack shut down the poor KITV engineers have been stumped on all this HDTV stuff.

The rule of "Broadcast Quality" in the islands is simple...

"If you can see the lava...it's broadcast quality brah."

  12. I think that all of the anchors on FOX 29 news are 100 percent bad. I noticed on the evening newscasts, they don't even say good night and or thanks for watching to us the viewers. I will never watch FOX 29 again. That is very disconcerting to us the viewers. All the other anchors on the other stations say good night, but not the FOX 29 anchors. That's dumb

    Julius you should understand something...

Sometimes the anchors get in a pissy mood...

...and they take it out on viewers like you.

They KNOW you are talking smack behind their backs because they can SEE and HEAR you thru the TV screen.

Amazing what today's TV sets can do.

Once you stop watching...they will buck-up and start saying "goodnight" and "have a pleasant tomorrow".

Did you know In England they say "Cheerio" to the happy viewers?

    How cool is that Julius?

Maybe a CW or METV newscast would be better suited for you?

Our point is they ( the FOX 29 News Anchors) don't like you....

...they were gonna fire you as a viewer anyway.

    Sorry for the bad news.

  13. Why do we need TWO weather anchors on the same show?

Sister stations WCAU & WRC also follows this same practice.

To prove that TV weather is more accurate and more friendly than internet or smartphone weather.

It's one of the few beaches left where the weather battle can still be fought.

Root for them...or they may just be gone soon and replaced by some AI app named "Doris"..

  14. Lisa Benson, who has an ongoing racial lawsuit against KSHB, has left after 14 years (and 3 months). http://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2018/6/14/reporter-that-sued-kc-station-is-now-gone-from-the-station

Dee Jackson, a sports anchor/reporter, also has a racial discrimination lawsuit pending. It'll be interesting to see if he leaves next.

If I was his lawyer I would advise him to resign yesterday.

You have a difficult time convincing judges and jury you have suffered damages if you stay .

It's like domestic violence cases...you get the heck out of the situation first. You don't stick around any longer hoping things will get better.

Leaving sends a very clear message that you are serious

  15. Don't be surprised if the people at WPTZ start putting on more weight after the move: the same building they're moving into also houses the executive offices of Ben & Jerry's.

Are you judging the fine folks at WPTZ ?

You are pre-shaming those poor future overweight newsworkers with your predictions of obesity and gluttony.

Do you think Ben and Jerry will buy some time on WPTZ...or sponsor the Health Minute?

    Is Gluttony a word?

  16. That may be intentional since we heard the rumor CBS is mulling the idea of showing Glor as little as possible since ratings haven't done well under him.

    It's not his fault...

But he is sure gonna get the blame.

You can't blame the sale weasels...you can't blame the set or graphics.

CBS should adopt my "End of News Days" final newscast format.

    "The incredibly non-biased multi-gender liberally-conservative quasi-woke international-action-eyewitness news-team..."

    or

    tinbmglcqwiaent

That's it folks...after this format it's all over.

  17. Good news...

    Hanna was found!

    Alive !

    Unharmed!

She is still at KGTV and still the military reporter.

She was never missing....I just didn't look hard enough and somebody else ( I can't say who ) found her...and emailed me.

    Dopey Me!

I'm sorry for the mistake and hope her family is not mad at me.

She was not abducted by navy seals...or bears.

I have learned a very valuable lesson about "being first".

  18. A small fire caused by an ice machine evacuated WWAY for over an hour Thursday night after their 7:30pm newscast ended.

    .

Must be nice to have a station ice maker...

At KBEX-TV we fired our station Ice maker due to budget cuts.

Now we have to drink straight outta the bottle...

We even told "Dan Dan, The Transmitter Man"...that he could drink and drive in the KBEX live unit...

But only if he used the cup holder.

  19. CBS is better then NBC and ABC which is more obvious however conservative news outlets are bias as well. What I am insulted with is how mainstream media works to dumb us down.Evening news covers the news that happened in 9AM. Why can't they come up with other news besides doing the same script. This just shows how fixed the news media has gotten. Catering to viewers, my foot. Most viewers are tune to what happened today but the evening news stays in the same box. Also, they work to stir your emotions not inform you why do you think things are so hyperpartisan. We are not living in an informative society but an emotional one that the mainsteam media continues to exploit.

There are NO unbaised newscast anymore.

I'm telling you what is selling right now...and what is not.

    Yes it's totally political.

As a station GM I think dollars...

You think politics...and that's how I make money.

When "democrat and left" is hot and selling....I will tell the KBEX sale weasels to sell left.

But right now..."Right" is "Hot". ask ABC.

Why don't you all ask Jeff Zuker what the viewers are watching.

I don't tell the viewers what to watch.

I just try to make (and take) all the money I can from both sides....and currently the fat white guys with guns are buying ad time....and watching TV.

Let me tell you a little story...

George Soro's just pulled out of a 1.5 million dollar ad buy in San Diego where he was pushing a candidate for local District Attorney. Do you know how many :30's that is??? ...and the worth?

    http://freebeacon.com/politics/soros-drops-1-5-million-san-diego-far-left-district-attorney-candidate/

That's a hell of a lot of money going into TV ads that suddenly got yanked because somebody didn't think that was worth it . The left is just too fragmented right now, and they don't have any direction for advertising with lack of messaging.

Plenty of "appointment viewers " still out there. Think of all the old people stuck in rest homes...watching FNC and Lawrence Welk...just dying for election day when the bus will come...and the seniors will go vote.

People "age in" to more conservative views when they decide they want to keep most of their remaining dollars.

The boomers still have 20 years to bloom.

  20. I don't believe he should lose his job. Does not matter who you put on that network, the real issue that evening news does not want to address is that people see the evening news as formulaic and the same. Digital disruption has taken over traditional broadcasting and people don't feel obligated to do appointment television anymore. It is sign of the times, there is nothing wrong with Jeff Glor.

The CBS news bias has cost them viewers.

Same with CNN....same with many other left skewing news operations.

Just like the NFL...conservative viewers just don't care for the CBSEN product. I'm 1000% positive the suits at CBS already know this.

MSNBC picks up the majority of the cable left...leaving CNN "crumbs".

FNC, OAN, Newsmax, Sinclair and some others see that conservative TV has many , many viewers who are on ALL platforms.

That's why you see those operations (conservative) expanding...except maybe "The Blaze".

Is "Political Affiliation" a Nielsen / Comscore demographic yet?

How about LGBT as a Nielsen / Comscore demo?

The CBS product is the problem...not the presenter.
