1. BTW, is it wrong to admit that I've been watching the CBS Evening News almost every night since Jeff came in?

Admitting you have a problem is the first step to recovery.

    11 steps left.

    Enjoy!

  2. Longtime DC sports personality Chick Hernandez has left NBC Sports Washington, this is a bummer.

At least the guy got to pen a nice goodbye post.

Does he control that twitter ID or is that an NBC branded thing?

  3. BTW, how come Sinclair hasn't tried to syndicate KidsClick to CW, MyNetworkTV and independent stations outside of the group's portfolio? The 2018-19 season would be the best opening to offer it to other stations.

Kids programming is taking a dive on TV just like he rest of traditional appointment TV.

Maybe there is not much interest.

  4. I don't see any of those scenarios happening anytime soon. Fox would tell Sinclair to suck it if they wanted a national evening newscast from Fox. Fox and Sinclair already have a somewhat testy relationship. Fox objected to the Trib sale, and sure, Fox never submitted a bid for Tribune in the end, but it probably doesn't sit well with them that one company owns a good chunk of their affiliates.

I don't see either Fox or Sinclair trying a national broadcast, and the reason for that is that both of those companies are so cheap that they'd much rather keep extending local news and filling it with repeated and filler content. The way I see it, only if/when they start shutting down news departments would be the time when they would do a centralized national newscast.

Nobody thought Scripps would try to launch a national newscast...

    just saying...

If there is a pending race to grab up conservative viewers, you can bet a national product will be highly considered if Sinclair rolls one out.

Everyone is just trying to hold on to viewers right now. ..so if there is a fight for the conservative ones you can be assured all stops will be pulled out.

Everything will be on the table...

    Even a network newscast .

  5. Why would they?

    1) They're probably cooking one of their own up anyway if the Trib acquisition goes through,

    2) For the moment it's more profitable for the stations impacted by such a thing to run syndie programming or local news.

They would do it as a reactive move to Sinclair rolling out a national newscast.

Lets see how long syndicated fare flies once it's game-on in the fight for conservative eyeballs.

Not planning for the possibilities would be unwise and short sighted for all players.

FOX has plenty of NN "templates" ready to deploy if needed.

  6. We're probably seeing at least a form of what a FOX national newscast would look like, had it come to proper fruition.

Make of that what you will.

I wonder if Sinclair will put pressure on FOX to launch some form of nightly national offering...in whatever form it takes.

CBS is a freaking mess right now...SF and Philly are in the crapper...same with most the other CBS news products.

    And the crazy lawsuits...

    Run!

  7. How long could the audience endure his reality show? The viewers need escape television that will make them forget about their problems and the problems around the world.

    That's why we have vices...

    drinking...

    drugs...

    candy crush...

    call of duty...

    Ok, ok...

I watch LMAD and TPIR...but only for the "visuals".

  8. If I was at ABC Daytime, I'd be filling the schedule with game shows-- Three on a Match at 10am, Winfall (an unsold Merv Griffin pilot from 1988) at 10:30, Run for the Money (a pilot shot for ABC in 1987 that became Going for Gold in the UK) at 1:00, Split Second at 2:00 and The Big Showdown at 2:30.

Well while you are begging for money from the network to produce those game shows...

Enjoy this 3rd hour from your friends at ABC.

    Sorry...

    No game shows.

  9. Someone over at TVForum wrote this about the deaths of WYFF’s Aaron Smeltzer and Mike McMcCormick and my response.

    What can you say?

They were performing a job and public service and lost their lives in the process....

Not like the BBC ever sent a crew into danger (Iraq) and lives were lost.

Nothing good will come from this....there is nobody to blame.

It's a sad chain of events that only could have been prevented by staying home.

...and if you would have asked those guys if they wanted to stay home that day...they would have laughed in our faces.

  10. MMJ and chief photog at WCMH Rick Reitzel out. Been there 25 years, through 4 owners: Outlet, NBC, Media General and Nexstar and 6 news directors.

In addition to being an MMJ...

They probably wanted him to wash the station windows and do the landscaping maintenance between vo-sots and face-tweets.

    A man has his limits.

  11. He seems personally offended for some reason. I maintain that he's so upset because he doesn't want the image of one of his reporters nearly getting killed on live TV out there on the internet. That, or he's upset that FTVLive kind of implied that Lewis knowingly sent his reporter in close to a very dangerous situation without thinking much of her safety.

All of them are morons for thinking that you can be "safe" at a shooting scene.

    You want safety???

Stay the heck out of the area.

The reporter has a choice to be there. Buy some kevlar if you are concerned about getting shot.

And if you (as a manager) are concerned about LIABILITY then don't send the reporter into harms way...period.

When you cover breaking news YOU assume all risk involved....not your stupid boss.

  12. Missing...

KGTV -!0 News Military reporter Hanna Mullens.

    FOUND!!!

    Good news...

    Hanna was found!

    Alive !

    Unharmed!

She is still at KGTV and still the military reporter.

She was never missing....I just didn't look hard enough and somebody else ( I can't say who ) found her...and emailed me.

    Dopey Me!

I'm sorry for the mistake and hope her family is not mad at me.

She was not abducted by navy seals...or bears.

I have learned a very valuable lesson about "being first".

  13. Shirleen Is going to London for the Royal wedding and her reports are also going to 6abc

I hope she has a date, because it sucks going to a wedding alone.

Any clues as to what she might wear?

I hope she wears a cute little hat.

    And sensible shoes.

  14. WLBT received a marker on the Mississippi Freedom Trail Wednesday. The station's actions during the Civil Rights Movement is well-known.

    Story:

    http://www.msnewsnow.com/story/38149588/wlbt-receives-freedom-trail-marker#

Thanks for the link, because I took the time to watch both pieces on this event produced by the station...

Not a single historic picture of any of these important players during this time...no old reels of film? No clips of the newspaper articles from the library?

    Nope.

Just boring talking heads at a podium

More lazy reporting and more lazy production.

That's what your news dollar gets you today.

Why would anyone want to watch that?

  15. For ads run by candidates themselves, FCC rules require stations to accept those ads if they make time available to at least one candidate in the election. If it was a third-party ad (like a Super PAC ad), the station could decline to air it, but in this case they have to accept it.

If a station fails to comply with the rules for candidate-run ads, the candidate could file a complaint with the FCC and they could issue a ruling requiring the station to run the ad or the station could get fined.

Thank God all those democrats running for office in 2018 will be boycotting the Sinclair stations by denying them those vital campaign ad dollars.

    Right???

That tactic would suck Sinclair dry in no time.

  16. Changes at Bloomberg. They are instituting a metered paywall on their website. If you want unlimited website access you must pay $35 a month!! That's more than the WSJ and NYT combined; and costs the same as some cable packages. Plus they are limiting you to only 30 minutes of free BloombergTV streaming (unless of course you pay)

    https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-05-02/tesla-projects-end-to-cash-burning-era-as-model-3-gains-traction

If you can't or don't write that off on your taxes, then you really don't need it.

  17. I just realized that WMAR 2’s rebranding may be related to WBAL and WJZ now using their call signs prominently. WJZ always used their calls during the Eyewitness News era when tagging out but now it’s just WJZ News. Similarly WBAL tags out “WBAL-TV 11”. Additionally they all now brand their weather as “Callsign Weather”.

    Now that's cool,

Going back to the roots... and keeping things simple.

  18. You stay classy, San Francisco.

Can we clear something up that has been bugging me for all these years?

No "Anchorman" in San Diego ever ended the show with "Stay Classy"...

This is what Harold Green ended the show with in 1976 at KGTV.

    5pm Version:

"That's it from San Diego, the NBC Nightly News is Next...

Take care of one another...from all of us at KGTV...to all of you."

    Or the 11pm

" That's it from San Diego, The Tonight Show starring Johnny Carson is next...

Take care of one another...from all of us at KGTV...to all of you...Good Night".

I may have one or two words switched up, but that's how it went.

    Finally!

A huge burden has been lifted from me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  19. Nah, WNOL will pick him up. They already have Wilkos and Springer.

Praise the lord there is no "Cap" for junk tv.

I'm old enough to remember when they didn't glue down the food and dishes during the Springer "Holiday" shows..

    .

What kind of punk-ass throws Jello anyway?

  20. Lester Holt is off tonight. I will presume unless and until I hear otherwise that he's only off because he's scheduled to be off if you know what I mean.

I gave Lester the night off.

    He needs a hug.

If you know what I mean.

  21. Holy Quac!

What kind of sad heel goes to KRON from KTVU as a result of a failed contract renewal bid.

    WTF...whoops!

    #myagentreallysucks

(I would have done everything in my power to stay at KTVU just so I could AVOID the commute to KRON)
