  1. For ads run by candidates themselves, FCC rules require stations to accept those ads if they make time available to at least one candidate in the election. If it was a third-party ad (like a Super PAC ad), the station could decline to air it, but in this case they have to accept it.

If a station fails to comply with the rules for candidate-run ads, the candidate could file a complaint with the FCC and they could issue a ruling requiring the station to run the ad or the station could get fined.

Thank God all those democrats running for office in 2018 will be boycotting the Sinclair stations by denying them those vital campaign ad dollars.

    Right???

That tactic would suck Sinclair dry in no time.

  2. Changes at Bloomberg. They are instituting a metered paywall on their website. If you want unlimited website access you must pay $35 a month!! That's more than the WSJ and NYT combined; and costs the same as some cable packages. Plus they are limiting you to only 30 minutes of free BloombergTV streaming (unless of course you pay)

    https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-05-02/tesla-projects-end-to-cash-burning-era-as-model-3-gains-traction

If you can't or don't write that off on your taxes, then you really don't need it.

  3. I just realized that WMAR 2’s rebranding may be related to WBAL and WJZ now using their call signs prominently. WJZ always used their calls during the Eyewitness News era when tagging out but now it’s just WJZ News. Similarly WBAL tags out “WBAL-TV 11”. Additionally they all now brand their weather as “Callsign Weather”.

    Now that's cool,

Going back to the roots... and keeping things simple.

  4. You stay classy, San Francisco.

Can we clear something up that has been bugging me for all these years?

No "Anchorman" in San Diego ever ended the show with "Stay Classy"...

This is what Harold Green ended the show with in 1976 at KGTV.

    5pm Version:

"That's it from San Diego, the NBC Nightly News is Next...

Take care of one another...from all of us at KGTV...to all of you."

    Or the 11pm

" That's it from San Diego, The Tonight Show starring Johnny Carson is next...

Take care of one another...from all of us at KGTV...to all of you...Good Night".

I may have one or two words switched up, but that's how it went.

    Finally!

A huge burden has been lifted from me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  5. Nah, WNOL will pick him up. They already have Wilkos and Springer.

Praise the lord there is no "Cap" for junk tv.

I'm old enough to remember when they didn't glue down the food and dishes during the Springer "Holiday" shows..

  6. Lester Holt is off tonight. I will presume unless and until I hear otherwise that he's only off because he's scheduled to be off if you know what I mean.

I gave Lester the night off.

    He needs a hug.

If you know what I mean.

  7. Holy Quac!

What kind of sad heel goes to KRON from KTVU as a result of a failed contract renewal bid.

    WTF...whoops!

    #myagentreallysucks

(I would have done everything in my power to stay at KTVU just so I could AVOID the commute to KRON)

  8. Consolidation is happening in TV the same way it happened in radio for the same reason it happened in radio and newspapers. Declining revenue and declining margins due to a dwindling customer base. Fewer people are watching local TV because of ever growing options and an increasingly fractured public. Fewer clients are buying ads. And when they are, they're paying less money because they can do math.

This is the reason every station group is decreasing staffing levels. Why every station group is investing in technology that helps eliminate jobs. Why everybody's favorite anchor is now working PR for a hospital or government entity. The groups everyone loves. The groups everyone hates. The groups that put out a consistently good product. The groups that put out a halfassed product. They're all doing the same thing and they're all looking to merge because scale is one of the only ways to maintain margins.

Grow up everyone. You're in a dying industry. Clicking your heels and chanting to yourself there's no place like 1996 isn't going to get you anywhere. I've lost enough friends in the business over the years and know enough people who are still in this godforsaken business to tell you to keep your resume in good enough shape to get you a job in the real world. If you zoom out far enough to see the future, you can see that we're all screwed. The indignant, immature state of denial that this entire forum seems to exist in makes my eyes nearly roll out of their sockets.

    Amen!

  9. Wasn't Ken supposed to be the logical heir apparent to Frank Somerville? Correct me if I'm wrong.

Well stations anchorships are no longer hierarchy's by any means.

Most of you wish they still were...by they are not.

FOX is moving to a newsreader style locally...away from "Anchors".

They have proved the concept as viable so far at KTVU.

KTVU has bounced talent all over the schedule for the last 2 years and the viewers seem fine with it.

But only very special eyes at KTVU get to see the ratings. Doubtful Ken even has a clue as to what his numbers actually are/were.

I may even say Mr. Wayne may NOT have had a clause in his previous contract requiring FOX to fully disclose the ratings to him and his agent.

    Anywayyyyyyyyyy

  10. On one hand I'm really surprised Sinclair fired him, he seemed like a perfect fit for Sinclair culturally and clearly had no problem following the company talking points.....on the other hand when you threaten to "ram a hot poker" up a teenagers butt it's really hard to defend that person and keep him employed.

My guess is that Sinclair will just take a "wait and see" approach by not replacing Allman with anything significant and hope that the Tribune merger is approved and KTVI can start producing news for KDNL (or where ever ABC affiliation in St. Louis ends up).

I think Sinclair really didn't have much of a choice since Boris's butt puckered up too....

    A hot poker....really?

    Are we heathens?

  11. It is the first instance that I can recall that a major station is producing a local newscast for a religious station.

This does make WLJC recognizable now, even though its a religious station.

Do ya think Jesus has "Must-Runs"?

  12. Yeah, I understand now why they kept it, because when watching some of the older opens, that news-ticker jingle that begins in the start of the theme, is super catchy and sounds just like the original Cool Hand Luke theme from the 70s and 80s and early 90s. So I get it now, but they can do a newer rendition of it no? But I guess it might be a theme to stay for the forseable future. I'm assuming WABC has access to the entire Eyewitness News Package.

    .

    What ???

    No EWN-EDM extended fanboy remix?

I'm starting to lose faith in the NMSA fanboys...

No news music mixtapes...no EDM's...not even any crappy "tropical house" EWN version.

    What gives?

  13. I got to see some clips of the Turko Files via YouTube of KUSI's newscasts and it was pretty entertaining... To say the least

I think he will be back.....soon.

    Hello CW

  14. You really think the majority of the general viewing public turns to a newscast because of the theme?.

    I never said that...

I said I would have a hard time learning the words to the new theme.

Here at the senior center we all like to sing-a-long to the EWN themes. If you change the theme...we won't watch.

Some older people (FNC viewers mostly) have memory issues. Some people that get slapped a lot also have problems membering things.

    I guess that's why I get slapped a lot.

  15. There's no reason to change the music. Part of the reason Eyewitness News is successful is because it has a long history and a recognized brand. The music is part of that. Loyal viewers who have been watching for 10, 20, 30+ years like it and like the consistency. They don't like change.

I have a hard enough time remembering the words to the current EWN theme.

God forbid we have to learn the words to a new theme song. That could be quite difficult for older and less smarter people.
