Cool. Sticking with the WOWT clip, the uploader has more - including a WJLA 1984 newscast (must’ve been after Wes joined them, and they were about to debut the ugly red set, unless this was after). They still have the ‘83 Theme during breaks:

Hey Raymie I’m starting to put the KTVX puzzle pieces together. If you listen closely during each of the news cut-ins in this 1994 commercial break it appears they were using Total News earlier than we thought (the drum solo in it seems to match up): As a matter of fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if they commissioned Total News and not WCBS. I still need to fill in the hole from 1986 to 1994. If i can guess why they’re surprisingly lacking, it could be because they probably were the #3 station in Utah and not many people watched them, kinda like the lack of KYW footage in the early ‘80s (their worst era being #3).

WDVM would change its calls a few weeks later to coincide with the Fourth of July. They changed their opens too in late ‘86 to that CGI flyover of Washington DC that lasted till late 1991/early 1992 when they moved to a new studio. Wish we had WJLA from that era - that station is surprisingly lacking! And here is WESH’s 1980 “tall tower” promo on the switch to their new transmitting tower, which was the top story on the 1980 newscast radioman1968 posted. That news anchor during the tease looks exactly like Ron Burgundy, but with a smaller amount of hair!

A KSNW newsbreak from 1986 using possibly the potential Peters/Chip Davis package that the Hatch Family stations used in the mid-1980s - wouldn’t be too surprised if this package was also used by KUTV, or even if they were the commissioners (KUTV debuted the Welch graphics in ‘84, KSNW was using “All The News” and a cheap WFSB knockoff around that time):

WNYT has named Asa Stackel as its new morning anchor, to replace Phil Bayly. Was kinda expecting that from the start, as Dan Bazile is one of those weekenders who is kinda like Rob Jennings (meaning the weekends are his shtick.) Also, sadly, I think Ed Hopkins’ voice is starting to go... he does sound a bit raspy here. A WAKR news report from 1985 — Albany viewers will get to see a quick glimpse of a young Jim Kambrich pre-Albany at the very beginning of this video (sadly, he doesn’t speak). However, you can see him in this newsbreak from after the call letter change. Plus KMTV was still using Brave New World in 1997:

I’m back with more Albany stuff! Never knew Mr. WGN himself did promo work for WNYT... Plus this 1991 report is currently the ONLY surviving footage of their “News 13” era on YouTube after the 1988 house fire video got taken down (and speaking of WGN, Randy Salerno!!!) Whoever has that audio clip of their 1988-1991 open better get that uploaded — that would definitely make my day. If only there was another ewjxn, except that channel would upload vintage Albany clips instead of Phoenix... *sigh*...

And then was replaced by Jesse Johnson. The other guy, John McKnight, was in the midst of two Atlanta stints - he recently came from WSB-TV and left to upstart WGNX’s 10:00 newscast, and was replaced by WSTM’s Tom Miller. Sheesh, Channel 36 had a huge habit of poaching talent from many other markets... And speaking of John McKnight, this WSB weekend tease from 1985 shows both the old “2” logo, as well as their current one being phased in:

A WNYT interview from 1993: Going on the 1993 opens Jim posted back in December, the top story in Albany on April 30, 1993 was a stand-off in Fort Ann, NY, by a guy named Patrick Penders. I say this because, the criminal himself was related to my dad. Penders later died in 2010.

Another thing (if it hasn’t been posted), Chicago weather veteran Jerry Taft has retired.

TO GET BACK ON TOPIC, it looks like Asa Stackel will be possibly the new co-anchor on WNYT’s morning newscast, replacing Phil Bayly. Also it appears Jason Gough has also left, as I was on their “First Warning Weather” app today and saw that he was removed.
