  1. Because it thinks KDKA’s early 80s theme was We’re 4, and they used the same theme as WROC at the time (specifically on the station ID that is in WROC’s open): There’s a KDKA “Renaissance 2” promo from 1983 that used the same 4-note tune at end of it:
  2. And you got the booming loud Chapin for the rest... “ACTION NEWS... THE ONE ON 2!!!”
  3. Can you upload that tape to YouTube?
  4. KERO’s open looks weak compared to its station sisters... Also I love that clean cut of “Groove News” playing during KNSD’s News Close.
  5. If that’s the case, then I’m guessing Jcbd did WTLV’s 1994 open too? According to YouTuber Erick Church who commented on thenightbeat’s KOCO open, they debuted that look in the summer of ‘94, but I have a feeling it might’ve been in early ‘95 (maybe February).
  6. HOLY CAKE you have 5 Alive and KFOR from 1993!!!! Jim you have been keeping a mean streak of posting some of our white whales in local television news. Keep it up!
  7. KTVY actually began Going All Out 4 Oklahoma as early as ‘86
  8. Is it just me or does Ed Hopkins sound noticeably off in the WNYT opens? Also those opens look nothing compared to what followed when Channel 13 debuted “Prime News”.
  9. Finally, WLWT’s “News Channel 5” intro! That era I believe lasted a year and a half, as by May 1992 they switched back to “News 5”. Also had no idea WTVC held on to the WRGB 1986 Theme that long, and plus WTVG’s open is a treat as well.
  10. Some WQAD gems for you - both were heard on the NMSA but haven’t been uncovered until now. This is the talent bump using the Palmer News Package and the mystery male VO, who was a long-term client of WQAD and Iowa TV in general. https://www.google.com/amp/wqad.com/2015/02/13/gmqc-marks-jim-mertens-20th-anniversary/amp/ This is the open using NS2000 Plus, same VO. Hopefully there’s more - still looking for the one with the 1984 Theme.
  11. Do we have any clips of that? Plus it’s weird seeing who keeps popping up in L.A. - no wonder CBS 2’s slogan was once the station of the people!
  12. Al Vanik?!! Haven’t heard voice work from him in years - betcha his voice sounds different. WTEN in my hometown of Albany is still using “The Edge” in promos for its weather app and has kept the same graphics and L3’s, but they still have the new open and “Inergy”.
  13. Still no KTVX, eh? I wonder why that station is missing lots compared to Channel 2 and Channel 5? Did many people not watch KTVX’s News at the time? Same goes for KOLD, too. Also that KTNV morning open features a young Cecily Tynan pre-WPVI!
  14. That KTVI open is new... Here is KMSP’s Prime Time News from 1991 (there’s also a large gap in the entire decade that needs to be filled in at some point)
  15. This “All My Children” Episode is from WQAD - go to 25:51 for an “Active 8” image promo!
  16. WLVI still using its Field-era logo in the Deathstar ID, fyi... I’m still searching for their first opens under “The Ten O’Clock News” which was nearly two months away from premiering at that point. Would love to see it. Here’s an inside look at KOKI’s news in 2006, narrated by Sean Caldwell.
  17. Speaking of WOOD, Jim, do you have any newscasts from Mid-Michigan on your radar? I’m specifically looking for WNEM from the mid 90s as well as WJRT and WEYI. Some Lansing would be good, too, but just give us what you’ve got.
  18. Here’s a WXXA weather promo from 1999
  19. Is that Charlie Van Dyke? Sounds like him. And you won’t BELIEVE what KTVX was using in the late 1970s-early 1980s (you can see it at 4:01 in the video on this link): http://www.good4utah.com/news/local-news/how-news-graphics-have-changed-over-70-years/732000007 This’ll stump Raymie that’s for sure.
  20. Here’s a 2001 WBAY news report, posting this as it’s strange how rare anything this station has between 1995 to 2007. Judging by the L3’s, they must’ve been using the KMGH Giant Octopus package earlier than we thought.
  21. Speaking of Atlanta, here’s some 11 Alive promos voiced by a very “Young” John Young. (Heh heh...)
  22. Some newscasts from the ATL on March 24, 1997
