KJRH in June 1989 with "The Image Leader"
Wow, I wasn’t wrong, lol.
They changed the L3’s shortly after, as late as March 1990:
By May 1990, they ditched everything except Ed Hopkins in favor of “Channel 2 News.”

A rather interesting story from WRGB about a local school’s newscast. Not sure exactly when this aired, probably around late 90s?
I’d say early 1998. JoAnne Purtan left 6 to her current job at WXYZ later that year.

Can you believe KTLA debuted these same graphics 10 years ago today:

How about liking WBRE instead of KGAN?
Seriously, this is once again — my longest video ever made, and also the longest update I’ve done to a news open video.

If there’s anything FOX19 should ditch it is the VO. I HATE how he says “Always Local.”

You like KGAN?

The newscast itself (incomplete):
By the way, was KPNX the only station to use the Gannett sounder as the sole music in the open? And was this done only on the weekends?
No. They did it on weeknights too, as late as 1986 before the logo change:
That being said, they might’ve been the only Gannett outlet to use the ID as the open. Indeed, by this point (December 1983) many Gannett stations were phasing in the CGI Deathstar IDs (WTCN I believe was the first).

You can also see a tail end of the open in my compilation, voiced by Charlie Van Dyke (who’s still there in his second tenure):

This one has talent bumps!
Also that female VO in those bumps is BAAAAAD.

Gee Pannoni, THANK YOU for uploading right after I updated KDBC....
Also good to see some more of that short-lived KOCO era. Never got why they switched so much...

Those don’t have the new graphics.
Meanwhile, these three stations do:
-
A KJRH weather special from 1985 - includes a glimpse of their then-brand new Scripps set (definitely after June since the old one was still used), an intro voiced by the late Ed Hopkins, and their version of NBC’s “Let’s All Be There” campaign.

The “chime” sound WRGB uses for its slides is getting pretty annoying...
Also WJAR has the graphics:

Chris Kapostasy (Jansing) does a special report on Albany businessman Francesco Galesi, during a WNYT newscast from the mid 80s:
