10 minutes of a WTAE newscast from January 20, 1980, the night the Pittsburgh Steelers won their forth Super Bowl. Most of the open included too. At the end you see part of KDKA’s news open from that same night, which KDKA posted on their own website 10 years ago. Which was the last time the Steelers won a Super Bowl.

Love the custom version of the Classical Gas open, with the football footage and all.

Betcha NO ONE was watching WIIC then.

Man, I miss these graphics so much. Thanks for finding this!

Considering the changes that just happened at 13 now, I definitely want to feel nostalgic. It hasn’t helped that this is the week I’ve moved into college.

Sticking with more KUTV, here’s a rather creepy promo on them going stereo in 1986:

Pour one out for the end of the Ed Hopkins era at WNYT. As of today, they switched from Keynote to the NBC version of 360's 360 and took to Instagram for the occasion:

Skimming through NewsOn, which WNYT has issues with as opens are clipped, Steve Stone is now on the talent opens.

My thoughts on Steve Stone is he’s a bit TOO excited. The way he says some of talent names such as “Jerry Gretzinger” is a bit too fast. Can’t wait to hear how he says “meteorologist Reed Kisselback.”

The Tampa Bay market has had some really impressive custom news music over the decades. They weren't afraid to spend the dough instead of utilizing syndicated packages.

It is kind of surprising that "Hello News" or some of the other iconic themes like CHL (that we know of-looking at you WLCY) weren't used in the Tampa market.

I recall at one point speculations on here that WFLA used Hello News. Possibly they were mishearing this package. The fact that we just found out this was a Gari job makes lots of sense.

  5. WNYT’s been phasing in Steve Stone for their promos, specifically for TV advertisements. Don’t have any footage of it currently.

Makes you wonder if Ed Hopkins is retiring or if he just passed away. He is still doing promos for the news and the opens, of course.

A full WYOU 11pm newscast from May 29th, 1998. This was the last newscast from Scranton before they moved to WBRE's studios in Wilkes-Barre.

Before Nexstar was a media hog going after companies, they were infamous for bringing down a once respected station in Northeastern PA.

    Misc KCTV promos
