My thoughts exactly. Who is the consulting firm that advised Scripps to strip their newscasts of any zest and turn them into generic waiting room/airport kiosk feed newscasts. Old Scripps packages had a lot more color and life.

The openings looks good. More generic white box L3s graphics (yawn) but definitely an upgrade from their current flat blue rectangle L3. It looks like a better version of WPIX's mid 2010s package. I think the lower third would look better if the "Right now at 5:00 subject line" were placed above the white box, not within it. I like the depth on some of these graphics such as here. The curves remind me of the ABC O&O graphics. Can't wait to see these on WPTV.

Lester Holt stepping down from NBC Nightly News

I understand some of your points. it's overkill for every network to have a street side studio. it's especially unnecessary for budget constrained local stations. I don't mind Today keeping the plaza however. Yes, the W 49th street view being blocked by police is understandable. The Rockefeller Plaza portion however is a lot more controlled. Onlookers have to go through metal detection to enter the plaza and security reviews your signs before you walk on. Why not showcase it more? Today already does an occasional weather hit or concert series on the plaza so a few interview segments wouldn't hurt. Sidenote: GMA's in-studio audience experience was better. There were security guards in the audience monitoring everyone. There was a hype man in the crowd between commercial breaks. You could actually hear the audio of the anchors and guests speaking. GMA 's audience is also more controlled than Today in that you have to book tickets. My only issue was people on standby could get in before ticketed audience members just for showing up early. -
You called it, Per Tv News Check McLaughlin will also become KPRC 2's Vice President and General Manager while serving as VP of News for Graham. https://tvnewscheck.com/business/article/grahams-mclaughlin-adds-kprc-vp-gm-to-role/ SIDEBAR: what exactly does the title "/Vice President" mean for a general manager. As far as I know general managers are the highest authority at a local news station so who is the "president?"

Looks like they're taking a page from WCBS with national personalities filling in on the weekend. Unless Yates doesn't want it, it's beyond past due for Toni to weekend anchor. She's got the perfect personality and she was great with Michelle, and she was great whenever she filled next to Rob Nelson.

Lester Holt stepping down from NBC Nightly News

Having been to that area, like you said, police shoe people away from that view of the window (W 49th Street) and everyone is told to stand behind the barricades on the side of studio (Rockefeller Plaza), so it's comparatively empty today. Having gone to the Plaza myself, the audience experience is pretty lackluster. The anchors barely come out onto the plaza except for the 8 AM introduction and an occasional weather hit from Al. I think an outdoor audience presence is still cool if utilized properly which Today doesn't really do anymore. -
I would love to see NDs fill in in the field so they definitely get a dose of reality.

Lester Holt stepping down from NBC Nightly News

IMO it's no issue that they share a set, the problem is that the set sucks. -
Recently a WRGB/WCWN anchor went viral for anchoring their three hour long AM broadcast while in labor. Interestinly their news director Stone Grissom has been filling in for her for the last two mornings. The station is on the verge of short staffing as three of their anchors are pregnant simultaneously, with one already on maternity leave and another on paternity leave...on top of Liz Bishop's pending retirement.

Just awful. This will put to rest the speculation about why Sheinelle has been absent so much.

The set Brian Williams got about two to three years in sucked compared to the late era Brokaw set. IMO that was Nightly News's best era visually (2000-2007). Yeah Studio 1A looked way better when they changed up the set for Meredith. -

As we approach the 25th Anniversary of this classic show, here's 106 & Park's 9/11 reaction episode (2001)

You don't miss a beat! I've seen numerous articles calling Deborah Norville the longest running female US anchor which isn't true given Liz Bishop's tenure. Perhaps they mean national anchor but that distinction isn't clearly being made.

RARE -- Today Show (Nov 2001) covering the aftermath of the American 587 crash. Post 9/11 colored lower thirds were in use. The patriotic tinted peacock bug was still used. NBC News American 587 crash coverage (2001). In similar fashion to 911, Matt and Katie are reporting on an American Airlines crash in New York City that occurred during the Today Show. One can only imagine how re-traumatizing that entire incident was, yet a lot of people my age had no idea this even happened.

It's a good concept. It can be a lot for reporters learn multiple communities. Having a specific subject or geographic focus allows reporters to gain more expertise in reporting. The problem is MMJing. Do reporters want to one man band until retirement? With anchoress newscasts that also removes a potential escape from MMJing. Now is breaking news anyone's game or does it go solely to the neighborhood reporter(s) that covers that area? IMO, it would suck for your beat to be a region where nothing exciting happens and isn't prone to breaking news.

It must be. New York is decent about salary transparency so I screenshot stations in upstate. DMA #160 Binghamton... Nexstar is just as bad. Elmira DMA #178...

Wow! Channel 7 has come a long way! The new Disney building has been an improvement for all shows that moved. Loving the neon lights and brick wall, it reminds me of Tegna's set design trends.

NBC: Surprisingly no Savannah. Notably they have Craig Melvin leading coverage from studio 1A not the Vatican. No Lester is understandable as it eases Tom Llamas into the main anchor role.... which makes me wonder why Llamas isn't leading coverage since he's at the Vatican. Interesting that NBC was the only network to stop live coverage as the Pope's body was brought into the basilica for burial. They went with Saturday Today from New York, with a funeral summary off the top. ABC and CBS broke about 20 minutes after. CBS: It's nice to see Nora co-anchoring with her successor John Dickerson. Networks often act weird when they (apparently) usher someone out of a prominent role, but they allowed Nora to anchor several major events before she left, and she's still a presence on the network. Noticing whenever one of the Evening News duo is chosen for major coverage, it's often Dickerson over Maurice.

Not sure where the fight stands today but Nexstar's cheapness is part of the reason WROC employees were attempting to unionize.

Hearst was among was the "least worst" as I recall. EDIT: Spectrum also drew compliments.

$17/hr starting rate but asking for a Bachelors degree. You can get that at Dunkin Doughnuts. I recall a news reporter group page on Instagram asking posters what the worst company they've worked was. To my surprise, Sinclair was the second most common response after Nexstar. Not hard to see why.

NBC News web feed on Youtube was in Sky News coverage before taking Craig and Savannah on the Today set at 4AM.
