Are you sure? Because I was talking with someone who works a recruiter for Scripps and that's exactly how they described it to me.
-
Probably discussed here already....What do you think of Scripps' concept of the neighborhood reporter? It's an MMJ who barely comes into the studio. They're essentially given a company car and gear. They film packages solo, then work out of a Starbucks or somewhere to put it together. WWJ (CBS News Detroit) also utilizes this method according to a TV News Check interview with their newsroom heads. My take: Pro: Having dedicated beats gives reporters opportunities to build contacts and an understanding of a particular community. Not going into the office might spare you from experiencing the infamous toxic newsroom. Cons: No in person co worker bonding/more isolation; further cheapens the conditions reporters work under, jeopardizes the jobs of photojournalists, limited in studio time might equal less anchor opportunities for reporters.

I don't fault Nora for wanting to move the broadcast to DC, as long as it doesn't massively disrupt the flow of production.

Katie most definitely has the chops for hard news, no question. David Muir is not bad at all, his broadcast is bad. Many here have actually said David's versatility would be suited for GMA compared to George Stephanopolus.

Full Show.... The color scheme reminds me of the Isaiah Factor on KRIV: I suppose WNYW figured MY 9's ratings didn't justify a live newscast so they decided on a repeat of Fox 5 News. But...is WLNY doing that much better in the ratings for them to have a live newscast at 8:00?

I loved Katie on Today, but she is totally out of touch on this one. Not to be political, but Katie habitually inserts sexism and feminism into many issues. Of the 3 evening programs CBSEN has most frequently had women as an anchor of the weekday broadcast (herself, Chung, and O'Donnell). Even in her book, Katie blamed her failure at the evening news on sexism rather than her softening the tone of the broadcast and adding editorials. Comparatively I dont recall that much criticism of Diane Sawyer's tenure on WNT. This isn't an issue of representation. Women may not be the anchors in the evening but they are elsewhere. Face the Nation, CBS Mornings and CBS Sunday Morning are all lead by female anchors. The Today Show has dual female anchors, Robin Roberts is basically the face of GMA, Savannah dual anchors a lot of NBC's breaking coverage. Not to mention female majority anchor teams on local stations across the country.

As someone said earlier their coverage of Paris feels scaled down. Even their incorperation of the plaza which initially set them apart from other morning broadcasts feels very underutilized now.
-
I actually dont mind the GDNY compilation show at 11. Fox 5 News is unremarkable outside of mornings, so I don't really care to see them expand news output. I like that TMZ is an alternative at 6:30 instead of more news in an already saturated market. At least its good to see a newscast on Channel 9 again. If they did hard NEWS at 11 or on MY 9, I'd like to see them do a creative spin like "The Late News" on WOFL Orlando. KRIV Houston is also another great and creative Fox O&O compared to WNYW. At least Lisa Evers and Christal Young are great at giving them creative segments.

CBS stations are really trying, the question is are their efforts paying off ratings wise. (I'm Not sure where KPIX stands in that regard).
-
Speaking in generalities, high newsroom turnover is usually indicative of inadequate pay or a toxic work environment.

David Muir substitute hosting "World News" as early as 2006

Eight CBS Stations to Ditch CW and Go Independent This Fall
MediaZone4K replied to AKA's topic in General TV
Part of me wonders if they don't care that they'll lose in the ratings, and they just want to see whatever ad revenue they can grab. -
I really did not like their early 2010s set. The view sets were stronger when the living rooms had depth rather than relying on video walls.
-
Finally because their set looked very outdated. Hopefully their new set draws inspiration from WTTG, which to me is the best looking Fox O&O.
-
Fingers crossed that WABC will finally have a great set! The View's current set is really good. Hopefully the new one is a replica or just as good. I'd really like to see them recreate the realistic living room set they had in their first few seasons

I hate to be negative, but given how unstable the CBSEN is I wouldn't advise Maurice to cut all ties with CBS 2 for national. I opt for Dick Brennan as evening anchor. He's got tons of personality and really good chemistry with Kristine. Give Cindy Hsu the Noon on top of the 9 am since Chris & or Mary anchor multiple shows between 4:30a and 12p. Wow, first Dana Tyler now Maurice's promotion. Big year at CBS 2.
-
Wondering that too: will Maurice leave WCBS? Breaking news and traveling for national stories might limit his WCBS position unless they have Dickerson handling that. Then again...in the 60s, as mentioned before, CBS anchors also carried national duties. On NBC in the 90s, Matt Lauer and Al Roker held positions on Today and WNBC's Live at 5 simultaneously. Double duty is possible, the exception is Lauer & Roker weren't NBC's main anchors. True. In all fairness WNT, NNN, and CBSEN are nearly identical so taking a page from PBS shouldn't be too awful.

1A needs furniture. The current set is barren floor of cheap looking video walls. The only update since 2014 that looks good is the anchor desk facing the window in the world. Permanent set pieces coupled with a flexible video wall is a good medium.
-
I see your point on Dickerson. I don't think sexism has any basis here. Very few news anchor teams are dual male anymore in this country. On two stints CBS had failed solo female anchors (Couric, O'Donnell), so we can't say they didnt try. Not to mention Gayle King, Jane Pauley and Margaret Brennan in leading anchor roles. At this point it's cool to see two males behind the anchor desk because it's so foreign. I think this instance is less about representation and more about who can carry the broadcast.
-
Wow! sensed Maurice's profile rising! As predicted John Dickerson is involved. Again seems like a nice guy but he's iffy as an anchor as evidenced by his CBS This Morning tenure. Hate to be a negative nancy but I don't see this lasting.
-
This coupled with the news that Maurice will be a part of the CBSEN overhaul! Their profiles have really risen in the last year after YEARS on the local anchor desk!
-
I understand the logic for a permanent younger anchor so that they last long-term. But, if somebody is only filling in once, there's no harm in letting the veterans take a stab at it. And veteran subs won't necessarily be a test run for the main anchor chair, it's just giving the audience some well-known faces in the interim. And I just want to see them do it lol.
-
On that same note, Gayle King has done a good job of establishing herself as the "Barbara Walters" of CBS. Saying Nora's leaving to focus on big interviews smells like when Ann Curry was leaving Today to be a part of a "globe trekking news team".
-
Maybe some people thought rotating anchors is going to be long term/permanent that's why they were against it? I was thinking that initially. My list for fill ins: Ted Koppel, Lesley Stahl, Jane Pauley, Gayle King, Rita Braver, Nate Burleson My list for permanent anchor: Shepard Smith, Brian Williams, Anderson Cooper. (Wildcards: Wolf Blitzer, Chris Wallace). Maybe it's just me but did anyone find Scott Pelley kind of stiff as anchor?

If the program moves back to New York hopefully they can do a recreation of the DC set backdrop. The dim blue world map video wall is really the best looking of the evening news shows right now. Would be a shame to see that no longer in use.
