As sad as I am to see reporters lose their job, are national bureaus for station groups necessary? Don't network affiliations already fill that void? The only beneficiary I can see is an independent station. It's duplicative for WSB to need Cox Washington packages when ABC News can already cover that. Despite the vast array of media services available to a local station they all cover the same thing. How many sources do we need providing a package on AAA Thanksgiving travel predictions? Wow! Sucks. He had a legacy tie to the station as his dad was big time local anchor Don Farmer. Justin always did this weird singing thing in his anchoring cadence. Has anyone ever noticed this?

Yikes! I would rather see them improve than go away entirely. I still love traditional legacy media, I just hate when it's become.

New York City is America's media capital and co-cultural center next to Los Angeles. It's also the "mascot" American city for foreigners. In a way the country and part of the world revolves around NYC. Accordingly, producers might be thinking what matters there matters everywhere. I think this is indicative of a larger problem in American media. Because so much of our media is based out of NYC and LA their cultural attitudes bleed into that media while a large portion of the country goes underrepresented.

IDK if this has been asked yet but will MSNBC remain at Rockefeller Center when it cuts ries with NBC/Comcast? What happens with CNBC's NJ HQ, assuming that's still in operation?

And you can't even blame consumers because look at what cable has to offer. Nothing but movie and tv reruns, and a handful of networks still doing reality shows and scripted programming. The only cable networks putting out something worth watching are FX and HBO.

Indeed it does feel weird. Haven't seen much promotion on air or online for this new arrangement. I don't think I've seen Nora announce (on-air) that she'll be stepping down. Looks like CBS is relying on news articles to spread the word. Maurice has a body of work outside of the NYC area. He has filled in on the CBS Evening News numerous times over the past decade. Maurice also did a special for BET, and if I'm not mistaken, he's done reports for CBS Sunday Morning. There's no mistaking that he is qualified, I just don't know if pairing him with John Dickerson is the right answer.

It's nice of CBS to give Nora the opportunity to cover all of these things, but it would be smart to start building an audience around their two new anchors. We should have seen Maurice and John together during election coverage. It would also be smart to start increasing their appearances together during the transition and inaugural coverage.

Agreed, but assuming Adam and Gilma work a 10-6 shift, that wouldn't work. (Unless like some jobs their shift is 8.5 hours to account for break). My how Clancy Burke's former station has fallen. If they're gonna have that title card after EVERY story at least remove the darn sound effect. We don't need to hear it every 45 seconds lol. Looks like they still have anchors in the morning, I wonder if or when that goes away totally.

Interesting thought. I'm not sure how much worldwide audiences know that Australian Sky News is right wing propaganda. I wonder if Comcast fears branding everything under Sky News would give consumers guilt by association.

And that always bugged me because MSNBC, CNN, ABC, NBC and CBS all push agendas, they're just not as blatant and conspiracy-driven as Fox News.

It's positive that NBC News will no longer have a left-wing cable operation dragging down its reputation as a 'neutral" news network. However, I haven't seen much distrust of NBC affiliates because of MSNBC, as much as I see distrust of Fox affiliates because of Fox News Channel. While average news viewers I speak to know that MSNBC is biased, they don't have such a strong rebuke for it as they do with the Fox News Channel. I wonder what the future looks like for MSNBC and CNBC? Being renamed could severely impact their brand recognition. At least NBC can focus its 24/7 news on NBC News Now, a non-partisan operation.

I'd think that that would severely impact brand recognition. This is good for NBC News as it no longer has a left-biased news network attached to its brand while operating as a "neutral" news network.

The moderators will complain that we're turning this into the MSNBC thread so all in all... Yes one party maybe more of the aggressor in our country's current issues, but all sides have to be subject to vigorous fact-checking and questioning. Yes channels like MSNBC should have room for opposing voices if they are not seeking a bickering match or spreading conspiracies/lies. (Understandably, that last part is going to be extremely difficult to accomplish with the incoming administration).

If you can't beat him, join him, lol. I'm all about having alternate opinions on the network but we have to be cautious about giving a platform to conspiracies and lies. Unless they are going to have Trump on and debate/fact check his claims in real time, what is the point of restarting communications with him? Do Joe and Mika actually think they'd be able to reason with Trump or influence his policy decisions?

Love that MSNBC isn't doing well, hate that Fox is still doing well. How are cable networks making a profit with demographic viewers that low?? How much are they charging advertisers?

I respectfully disagree with some points you made. Thinking that MSNBC is the only news outlet doing serious political journalism and providing the truth, indicates bias. I don't like this narrative that the media was unfair to Kamala.Trump has been the star of (justifiably) negative news coverage for 9 years. Thinking the media is biased when the shoe is on the other foot behaving like the republicans. That's an unfair assessment of ABC/NBC/CBS/CNN etc. They all repeatedly flag Trump's statements as false, and again provide mostly negative coverage of Trump. None of those networks give the extreme right a platform to freely spread information, or are unfair to Democrats. Take CNN panel discussions. The token outrageous Republican is usually outnumbered by liberals who along with the host fact checks. Example, CBS. Face the Nation: Margaret Brennan interrogated Democrat Governor Wes Moore on Face the Nation for trying to act like Joe Biden's debate performance was "just a bad night." She gave that same energy to the Republican governor of South Dakota who talked about killing her dog. Example: 60 minutes fact checks Arizona election rigging conspiracy. No, Republicans and Democrats are not equivalent in the country's current troubles, but all sides have to be subject to media scrutiny. Overall, if a person says it's raining, and another says it's not, the job of a journalist to go out and determine the weather without fear of offending one side. That I can agree on.

Yup. Although Fox is an echo chamber and obsesses over Trump just like MSNBC, Fox dominates because of little competition. They're the only *mainstream* big-budget and well well-produced right-wing TV outlet.

I've watched MSNBC by force because family members run it all the time at home. Agreed that MSNBC is not equivalent to Fox News, because they are not pushing lies. But MSNBC's facts credibility score is shaky. Media bias fact check.org gives them a mixed rating. The outlet takes factual information and bends it to their worldview. Like Fox News, MSNBC pedals one-sided news that keeps viewers in an echo chamber. That's why some of their hosts are shocked by the election's outcome, they're too busy regurgitating what each other says. Moreover, MSNBC isn't representative of everyone on the left. It's just a mouthpiece for the Democratic party establishment. Bernie Sanders was complaining that he didn't get a fair shake in coverage from the network during the 2020 election. I agree that CNN should stick to news, and I agree that MSNBC is easier to watch because it's not bickering television. But someone needs to provide a nuanced middle-of-the-line opinion, or left/right perspectives side by side. The failure to hear perspectives and everyone retreating to the channel serving their confirmation bias is part of why we cannot agree on facts in 2024. No one learns anything when they're constantly told their opposition is evil and stupid. Admittedly Trump is a difficult president to cover. He tells outright lies, and non-partisan news agencies such as CBS have to fact-check him without appearing to attack him. Yes, many issues we face in government today stem from the right, but the left is not blameless.

This is temporary MSNBC will come back. If Trump is president, liberal audiences will crave a news network breaking down his actions. But I think MSNBC is losing ratings because: 1. people are tired of a 24/7 News Network airing non-stop coverage of one man for nine years. 2. People could be realizing the pundits on MSNBC live in an echo chamber. The commentators think they know everything then act shocked when the election proves them wrong. 3. Exhaustion and defeat. Many Democrats are stunned by the outcome of this election and can't deal with it right now so they're turning off the news. They're not in the mood to hear a panel discussion of why Kamala lost be overanalyzed for the next few months.

Interesting, I thought the ARC concept was just a morning show.

Hopefully WCBS keeps some ties to Maurice because as I've said, CBSEN is unstable broadcast. We could be seeing this arrangement blow up in the next three to four years. Falling back on his position as lead anchor at the flagship o&o will be a good cushion. Hate to sound negative, but history is not on this broadcast's side.
