  1. With respect, based off of the recent posts of the RSN, that was implied.
  2. It's Official. Bally's Is Bankrupt. https://cordcuttersnews.com/bally-sports-just-declared-bankruptcy-the-death-of-rsns/ https://awfulannouncing.com/sinclair/diamond-sports-group-bally-sports-bankruptcy-chapter-11.html
  3. Last fall. 11, 12, 4:30, 5, 6, 6:30, 9, and 10.
  4. KMSP has been doing “Weather First” segments at the start of evening newscasts lately. For those of you who have Fox O&Os on your markets, have you been seeing similar? Could help answer… a) if this is response to other stations Weather branding (WCCO Next Weather, for example), b) response to KSTP doing “Forecast First” at the start of their newscasts (and possibly having success if KMSP is copying), c) both a & b, d) neither. It’s a coincidence.
  5. Turns out things aren't much better over at AT&T SportsNet https://awfulannouncing.com/wbd/att-sportsnet-rsns-reportedly-short-three-mlb-teams-on-rights-payments.html
  6. I just don't see any Big-Four pre-empting any programming if they have a viable alternative they can consistently send a viewer to for a product with varying times like MLB. If I'm watching KMSP with an antenna, it's easy- Fox9 is 9.1, WFTC (MyNet/Fox9+) is 9.2. Different acrobatics if you (still) have cable/satellite. Apply that to DFW or the market of your choosing.
  7. With MLB taking broadcasting in-house with the bankruptcy (as they have claimed they are prepared to do), I see deals with Fox O&O's, for example, to put MLB on the MyNets (WFTC in Minneapolis, KUTP Phoenix, KDFI Dallas, etc.) I get that it's speculation (and apologies in advance) But it's a deal I can actually see being made, to @DirtyHarry's point.
  8. Allow me to clarify- I did not mean to suggest Gardner would have cared or not- but habitual viewers (I think the term rusty was thrown around earlier this week) would whine and complain if there was too much change at once (again, to clarify, are the possible complaints valid? I don't think so). They probably also call complaining that Ken Jennings is not Alex Trebek.
  9. Let the whole Jim Gardner retiring thing settle before they start making other changes to the newscast, but to your point yes- it's likely they will make some modifications to the newscast at some point. That was already tried in the MySpace era.
  10. It's that way for all of their newspaper holdings. Back when WDAZ-TV (Grand Forks) was it's own entity (Pre-2016ish) WDAY still provided the weather for all of the newscasts (pre-taped) That said, they have seven mets in Fargo- Need something to keep them all busy. Forum should see the writing on the wall that they're not going to get KVRR/KQDS from Red River approved... That deal was announced WAY before this one
  11. Maybe not fired, but certainly reassigned. It's hard for them to deliver objective news of the day when they, themselves, are the topic and attention of the news.
  12. Variety reports that Chris Licht is planning more changes at CNN- revamped daytime lineup and *gasp* no more sitting behind a desk, among other things... https://variety.com/2023/tv/news/cnn-daytime-overhaul-newsroom-headquarters-chris-licht-1235483637/
  13. And it's dragging on longer than the Tegna deal. Another pocket veto in the works by the FCC.
  14. Not usually around a TV during the morning news- but some time off this week gives me the opportunity. Landed on CBS Mornings. Wasn't the whole point of this show to "put the news back in morning news" and differentiate themselves from Today and GMA? The time I spent watching was just a store-brand version of the other two shows- Same gossipy host-chat, "CBS Morning Deals" giving some paid-placement to product no one really needs, using songs like "Bye Bye Bye" as the closing bumper music, and that was just the 15-20 minutes that I caught. I feel when the show was still CTM before moving to Times Square, they had a solid, and reasonably unique product, despite still being in third place- what happened?
  15. Anyone else getting Tegna vibes from the L3's?
  16. And just like with the ABC logo change, the average viewer will not notice or care as long as Lester Holt and The Voice are on the same channel they've always been on.
  17. Not a bad stroll down memory lane... Sorry for those who get PTSD
  18. Some free advice to CBS O&O stations- when getting the new mic flags with the CBS News [city] on them, go for the three-sided one so people have a shot of actually reading what it says. its CBS Los Angeles by the way.
  19. As long as the network can keep selling it, they will keep running it. Basic economics.
  20. I'm not. Think of all the unforeseen issues that are likely to happen with the launch (like anytime a station launches a new graphics package, for example, let alone a whole new newscast). Having those issues right before the biggest story of the year when viewership is up and more eyeballs to catch a possible major issue makes for a bad first impression. Recent example is KSAZ last night testing their election ticker... And whoever runs that for them probably isn't brand new to the job.
  21. Here's the rebrand of KBJR to "Northern News Now"- Shockingly managed to rebrand a whole station and not upgrade to the Gray graphics package. Instead, they rehashed the KBJR Quincy package. Take note behind the weather desk you can see they're working on the Gray wx graphics at least.
  22. That makes two of us... Add in the Gray "honeycomb" graphics package and they'll really have something! I look forward to the facebook comments from the Karens on Monday.
  23. It’s what they’re going with… here’s the jackets and coffee cups (from their staffers on Twitter).
  24. KBJR (Duluth) going back to combined branding for newscasts starting Monday.
  25. Almost two months later, turns out to be a correct prediction- KBJR/CBS3 morning newscasts are combined- Staff from both shows were merged, live reporting in the morning added, and KBJR is now using "F1RST ALERT" Weather branding with the old KBJR/Quincy graphics. That said, looking at their website, the morning newscast will rebrand as "Northern News Now" at 5a and 6a. Evening newscasts appear untouched for now with the exception of weather on CBS3 using the KBJR graphics- otherwise the CBS3 show still has their own branding.
