  1. Matt Lauer? Bill O'Reilly?
  2. Facts. But there's third place in a close fight, and then there's the kind of third place that CBS has seemingly become (another example, WBBM-TV)
  3. We could have a lot of fun over at the Speculatron with this... I'd argue the possibility that Bob was doing well and enjoyed Face The Nation too much to switch. Another one to speculate would be could some of the NewsNation talent find a home at CBS if that venture folds (cough, Joe Donlon, cough)
  4. Agreed. It's the same mistake CBS made with Katie Couric on CBSEN... Great journalist and interviewer with a solid resume as a morning host- but an evening anchor she did not make. Norah was a great balance to Gayle on CBSTM with her experience with politics and the happenings in DC, it just didn't translate well to PM. Herein lies the problem... The answer is honestly no one. They need some stability in their game of musical anchors on their shows. But the bench has been weak for decades- evident when there was no clear successor for Dan Rather (Whereas Holt was waiting in the wings on Williams, Muir for Sawyer). If (and emphasize on "IF") CBS wanted to blow up the EN again, they really have no choice but to hire from outside and realistically missed the boat when NBC scooped up Tom Llamas (which, still unnecessary as they had their next-generational anchor in Jeff Glor) Even on Weekends, CBS has an identity issue. Good journalists at the helm with zero name recognition- Adriana Who? Meanwhile across the street, weekend anchors who still have prominence during the week and build a connection with viewers- Diaz-Balart and Snow at NBC, Davis and Johnson at ABC who all make appearances on the network's weekday shows and cable/OTT platforms. But of course, moving EN to Washington and CTM to Times Square will fix everything...
  5. What's the rationale? Please don't say "delta variant"...
  6. Fair point- I had not considered that. Thank you!
  7. Better question would be how does NN's numbers compare to once upon a time when WGNA just simulcasted WGN's Noon and 9pm news?
  8. Andrea Larson is calling it quits as anchor at KVLY (Fargo). Cites COVID-19 for changing her perspective. https://www.valleynewslive.com/2021/06/23/longtime-valley-news-live-anchor-andrea-larson-says-farewell-broadcast-journalism/
  9. Nope... Scott came off of vacation for this one. https://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2021/6/15/watch-a-reporter-wreck-her-career-in-live-shot
  10. My apologies! I stand corrected. Missed a few days of posts last month!
  11. What I don't think we were aware of was WGN's foray into Spanish-language broadcasts with this platform... Which I agree with Feder is a wise move given the May Sweeps numbers... If only CBSN Chicago was that insightful with their digital platform!
  12. I'm just wondering how strict/timely ABC expects affiliates to be with the change on their logos... Thinking of KSTP, for example, who just redid their logos/graphics/mic flags etc. this year.
  13. So... They're going to "make it different from other morning programs" by adding more giant video walls just like one morning program (Today), and moving to the same neighborhood as another (GMA).
  14. What was the 09/10 look again?
  15. Agreed. The new package just feels too busy- the angles, transitions... Not good if you have a short attention span like I do! The use of blue as the primary also wasn't great- you know, CTM and GMA's primary color. That said, one of Today's new shade's of blue feels very CTM-ish...
  16. Question- Does Gray hub master control for their stations? NY or TX to be exact? This is what happened on Saturday in Fargo when they tried going to Jeopardy... Or is it just a misfire over at KVLY? IMG_0588.MOV
  17. When Nexstar got the "KX" empire in Western and Central North Dakota (KXMA/B/C/D) from Reiten, they changed the longtime "KXnet.com" to "MyNDnow.com". It lasted a couple of months before being flipped back. Gotta love the stubbornness or North Dakotans!
  18. Quotation marks around news? Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but do we really need to debate spin and biases here? And for the record, I hate the slant of Fox just as much as I hate the slants of every other cable news outlet.
  19. WCCO's weather graphics on their website now have this logo in the corner. Question of the day- preview of a new graphics package (that has a Scripps feel), or just a logo stamp on the maps?
  20. In what has to be a first, The Today Show used footage and interviews from NewsNation on the broadcast this morning (top of broadcast too. :06). Exposure is exposure...
  21. In theory, NewsNation is a fantastic idea. Given Sinclair's spread across the country, they are positioned to have coverage of many major news events via their local affiliates. 10-12 years ago might have been a boom. Today with the over saturation of news, or "news", it's just another statistic. Instead of a network, Nexstar may have been better off with starting NewsNation as an hour-long "national" newscast on their stations to test the waters. Surely someone had to do their research to know that NewsNation would have been more profitable than WGNA (you'd think?) but testing it on their stations would have given them a decent ratings picture. For the sake of all the employees, I hope NewsNation finds at least enough success to remain a going concern.
  22. Speaking of CBS- Could have been the "rival network" that was spoke of... If George thought all along he should have had WNT and not Muir, and saw an opportunity at getting the chair at CBSEN to try to start and win a rivalry?
  23. I love the release on their website: "KTLA has a long history of firsts when it comes to technology..." Forget that CBSN, ABC O&O's, Gray, Scripps, etc have had Roku/Fire/AppleTV apps for a long time- Nexstar stations are leading the way like the Internet Explorer of SmartTV news that they are!
  24. VS1 was beyond a colossal nightmare. But, For markets where there are duopolies with owner groups (Where Fox O&O's have the MyNet "plus" channels, for example) could there be an emergence of bidding to put pro sports on those channels for broadcast TV? First ones that come to mind are- Minneapolis (WFTC), Dallas (KTXA), Denver (KWGN, KCDO) At least with WFTC, they once upon a time in the UPN29 days had Twins and Wolves games (albeit, in conjunction with Fox Sports North)
  25. Could a working "newsroom" be in the works since CBS Evening News Weekend is using the setup in the main newsroom? Or possibly something that would include a "working" background for CBSN Chicago? WBBM Seems to like the newsroom studio setup more than their state of the art studio upstairs...
